2 days in and nausia as hell
aligator517 replied to Lowes????'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask for the patch!!! It helped me so much-I had to stay in the hospital an extra day because my nausea was too severe. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
What were your worst symptoms post-op?
aligator517 replied to KaiserKid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most immediate pain was nausea but I ended up getting a patch behind my ear for about a week which helped considerably. Also had the usual gas pain and soreness (due to the nausea I did NOT take pain meds at all). Now, six weeks post op, my only real symptom is that I get sporadic tingling/numbness in my right upper leg. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Removing the clear surgical tape over the incisions?
aligator517 replied to MickiinFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the steri strips, I helped them along after they started coming up but tried not to rush them. The worst incision site I had was right above my belly button-that one is bigger and redder, but that is probably based on location. This is also the only one that still has a scab. My surgeon has seen it and feels its healing just fine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Is 100 grams of protein too much for a woman?

I found that when I was in the first week it wasn't so much incision pain as I originally thought but rather pain on my left side between incisions. This is where the "heavy lifting" was done in surgery, so internal recovery is often hardest in that spot. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Do "lightweights" tend to hit goal?
aligator517 replied to POSE2VSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was at a 40 bmi when I got a surgery date, lost 10 pounds in the two week pre-op diet bringing me to about a 35 bmi. I've lost another 14 pounds since surgery four weeks ago, so I'm creeping closer to a healthy bmi. Total I want to lose is 75 pounds, and so far so good. I understand it might not be so fast, but slow and steady wins the race-this is absolutely a marathon and not a sprint!!! I also have PCOS so this is an important lifetime support for me to control something I otherwise can't. Very happy with my decision and looking forward to finishing the next two weeks and getting back to Orange Theory for a more intense workout! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Facial hair *women only
aligator517 replied to natarshassleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@pleezeSleeve I had laser professionally done which did not work and wasted me thousands of dollars. The at home laser I have is by Silkn and keeps the hair at bay when I use it at three week intervals. It's lower power than if you went to an office, so using it more helps. Not a cure, but something to manage. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
How long did your Dr put you out for?
aligator517 replied to Mimi52's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Butterfly007 I was SO bloated! My abdomen was extremely distended for about two weeks. I let it be and stuck with what I needed to do-focused on liquids and Protein goals. I did find that I needed to walk around the block after meal time which helped a bit. Also important to take the daily acid treatment. There is so much swelling inside that we don't see that takes time to go down. It did eventually. Just needed to be patient. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

aligator517 replied to natarshassleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have pcos and have dealt with hair issues forever. I've done waxing, electrolysis, vaniqa...you name it!!! Most recently I bought an at-home laser that I use. It works reasonably well to keep the hair at bay and I trim/shave in between to keep it under control. The one I have is by silkn. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Pros- question about what to bring to the hospital
aligator517 replied to Er1n's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I packed a bunch of stuff and used none of it-didn't feel well enough to need entertainment. I did being a robe to drape over myself to walk around the floor, toothbrush and toothpaste. I also brought an extra set of clothes to wear home-very loose and easy to pull on/off. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

How long did your Dr put you out for?
aligator517 replied to Mimi52's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggled a ton in the first seven days but then started to feel significantly better. I went back to work 12 days post-op and it was ok. I work in retail so I do NOT have a desk job for the most part, but I just went slow and steady. I didn't see any sight of feeling better after five days post-op, but after the one week mark it really did get better-hang in there! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I was told Protein only until at least eight weeks post op but you should partner with your doctor-everyone has different rules. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It absolutely makes NO freaking sense to me... **MY RANT**
aligator517 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
So, I've been a "lurker" as someone put it for the past couple of months...going through pre-op approval (psychological testing in a certified mental institution and all), the joys of getting a surgery date, having my surgery moved up more than a month (to the point where I had the choice to start my two week pre-op diet 12 hours later or postpone-I picked the former option ) to the realities of surgery and being in the hospital (first time ever) to the more-painful-than-expected recovery, to the questions and questions and questions. And now, still so new (surgery was 9/7) to all of this, but finally feeling compelled to contribute and not just read along. I can honestly not even put into words how much gratitude I feel towards everyone on this app. This process is undoubtedly exciting, but it's also full of so so so many unknowns. It's been a comfort to have the ability to come here and see what others are going through, hear from those who have reached their goals, see the pride and support in the progress photos and have my own questions answered instead of needing to call my surgeon every.single.day. for the first week (excessive nausea-normal? My eyesight is strange-is this temporary? I have an indentation in my stomach-is this a sign of something bad? I can't get more than 4 oz of protein in one sitting-am I going to be ok? My pain is terrible-how long will it last? Etc etc etc) I've used this site for everything-answers to my questions (thanks so much for the Nioxin recommend ps!), educating myself on what I can expect (stalls, I'm ready for you!), sharing in successes (albeit silently) and also learning what NOT to do. Some of it may seem so obvious (eating macaroni three days out) but some are honest mistakes that help us learn from one another and become our best selves. Long story short, I appreciate every post on here for helping to make my experience better, and I look forward to eventually becoming one of those before/after success stories. -Allison Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
