Surgery tomorrow, scared!
The New Kel replied to ella37's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ella37, I think it's normal to be scared! I was too. But the funny thing is, once I was wheeled into the OR, I was out within a minute! Next thng I knew, I was awake and it was over! Just consider the operation an hour nap! :-D -
1 week post op weight loss
The New Kel replied to brather's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@brather, I was sleeved the same day. I have lost 4 lbs but I feel good about it, since the hospital puts Water weight on and it takes a few days for that to go. -
I am 6 days post op, and I have pain in the largest incision area which is on my right side about 6 inches below my breast. It hurts when I get up from sitting mostly. And bending over. I think its normal, but it does worry me as well sometimes, when the pain is stinging or like tearing. The pain is well below the incision surface.

I have the same issue. It hurts pretty bad for a few seconds. I can understand why we are on liquids at this stage- regular food wold be impossible. -
Question About Liquids
The New Kel replied to cuteNATL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@morg199, I was prescribed beneprotein powder combined with carnation instant Breakfast for my shakes. I am not enjoying them at all, just tolerating them, I do manage to get 2-3 of them down a day. I am supposed to drink 3. I wonder of your fullness and stomach ache is due to still having swelling? In any case, I am looking forward to soft foods, so that these shakes are only supplimental. -
Things I'm looking forward to
The New Kel replied to fancypants11578's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pretty much all of what nrdgrl said. And I will add: Hiking and running with my husband. Going out to eat and not feeling judged. Reducing the risk of heart problems (runs in the family). -
Question About Liquids
The New Kel replied to cuteNATL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will wait to hear from the experienced on this but like you, I was sleeved 6 days ago. I had the same question because I drink about 12 ounces in 20-30 minutes. I am wondering if it is that liquids are leaving the stomach quickly? So maybe the liquids are moving through the stomach before we finish those 12 ounces. Just a thought! -
3 days post op. -question.
The New Kel replied to dccarite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 days post op, and I have had that same feeling. Especially the first three days after surgery. It hurts and feels like a spasm. I think like suzzzz said it is caused by swelling. When we swallow it is so narrow at the stomach opening that it hurts until it gets into the stomach. I'm no doctor but that's what I have thought, and now 6 days past surgery that feeling is getting a lot better and way less frequent. -
Hi everyone, I had my sleeve surgery 4 days ago, Oct. 3rd. The first 2-3 days I never felt hungry. Today I am hungry. I take antacids so I don't think its acid. I will drink a protien shake and feel satified for about an hour. Then hungry again. I am fearful that the "won't be hungry after surgery" thing isnt working for me? Was anyone else out there hungry at this point? No sure what to do. Why am I hungry? I have had about 600 calories today. Could it be head hunger? Will this go away when I get onto solids?

Hunger 4 days post op. Normal?
The New Kel replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@PorkChopExpress, the meatballs sound terrific! Question: On full liquids I am easily able to drink 4-6 oz in 30 minutes. Does the food being solid (or semi solid, mushed) make it so that you are full with just a meatball and spoon of potatoes? It's so much less than the amount of liquid I can drink. -
when do the pounds start coming off?
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days post op. I have read that the hospital can put Water weight on you and you shouldn't look at the scale till a week past surgery. I am just curious as to when you all started seeing scale move in the right direction. My weight on surgery day was 219 and 5 days post op I am 218. When will the weight loss kick in? -
I'm getting violent without caffeine
The New Kel replied to mollydeez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
coffee was the one thing I had a HUGE problem giving up on my pre-op. I followed the diet strictly with the one exception- I allowed myself a half cup of coffee in the morning with almond milk. Now, post op, I don't crave it as much. I actually enjoy hot tea more! -
Anyone Sleeved By Dr. Jorge Acosta Or Dr. Michael Lara (El Paso)
The New Kel replied to AdeptDreamer's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
My surgeon was Dr Michael Lara of Del Sol, El Paso. Great surgeon, ZERO complications, and he is personable. The who staff there at Del Sol is professional and friendly. Highly recommended!! -
Hunger 4 days post op. Normal?
The New Kel replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@KristenLe, I am taking prescribed pepcid every morning. So far no issues with reflux, etc. I do think head hunger is kicking in. @@PorkChopExpress, I think you right about the mourning of food I usded to eat. The feeling gets bad in the evenings, which is when my husband and kids are eating dinner, and I am consuming liquids. Its a bit sad, but I know I will get over it and used to it. @@gidgetgrl, I think I am in your camp. I was on two weeks liquid pre-op and two weeks post op so that is a full month of liquids. I am happy to hear that you started feeling satisfied once you started on solids. That is my hope! And like you, I need to give up my love affair with food. @@GinaCampbell, thanks for your input! From day one, I never had the food repulsion. Happy to hear that you are past that and can eat healthy! I am five days post op so I think I have to just wait and see how things go. Thanks all.. -
Ok, so I am not alone in this. I am sooo hoping that this will pass! Just a few minutes ago I went and ate about 4 oz of strained tomato soup. I actually feel better..for now, satisfied. How are you feeling otherwise @@brather? I am doing good, except for thinking about food too much.

I had my sleeve surgery 4 days ago (oct 3). I'm not liking the full liquids stage much. I am eating protien shakes, no sugar added yogurt, and strained soups. It's getting old fast. The thing I don't like is that I never feel really satified and am craving the bad foods I used to eat before surgery. ( I realize this could be head hunger). I thought those cravings would have gone away. I am hopeful that once I start on mushed foods, I can start to feel satified.

Bariatric Fusion Meal Replacement Shakes - What flavor?
The New Kel replied to KristenLe's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
For my pre-op diet I had to choose between Vanilla and chocolate. I bought both and got kind of creative with them. With the chocolate I added a sprinkle of unsweetened bakers cocoa powder. It makes it less super sweet. For both vanilla and chocolate I occasionally added a drop or two of real orange extract. I was thinking mint extract might have been good also but I never got around to trying it. The one thing that really encouraged me to keep at it was that I lost over 10 lbs on the pre-op diet alone! Good luck!! -
2 days post op- pain and spasms?
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, I had my sleeve surgery two days ago. I feel my sleeve and surrounding areas spasm painfully for a few seconds at a time, (kind of like a contaction) randomly. It also happens right after swallowing. Is this gas? Or something else? has anyone else experienced this? Needing help so I can get some fluids in! -
Any October 2016 Sleevers?
The New Kel replied to bkskinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On the loser's bench now! Had my surgery on the 3rd. Surgery went fine, no complications. Now I'm just dealing with lots of gas pain, some fatigue and absolutely zero desire to consume anything. I'm scooching over to make room for everyone yet to follow! Best of luck to you all! -
Good luck!! I had mine done today, typing this from my recovery room. Everything went smooth without a hitch. Waiting is the hardest part. it will be over before you know! Keep us posted!

Hi all, I am 5 days away from my VSG. I have a been battling headaches and can only take Tylenol now (Advil was my friend). I miss coffee not only for the caffeine but the ritual and soothing. Its my favorite morning thing. Question is, why is coffee a no-no? What about decaf? Is it the caffeine that is bad, or the acids in coffee? Is the coffee restriction just pre and post op, or life-long?

What's the skinny on coffee?

Thank you for this advice! I also enjoy tea, and many decaf teas are very soothing. So I may make the switch althogether. -

What's the skinny on coffee?
The New Kel replied to The New Kel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am the same way, coffee first, biut for me its not so much the caffeine as the the ritual. I like just one cup, 10 oz, and I use almond/coconut creamer. Seem harmeless but I will consult with my team today. It would be nice to be able to hold onto one of my comfort rituals. -
