Traveling week 7 post-op, need advice!
The New Kel replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hadn't thought of that. But they should have them, right? I think they are somewhat portable like on wheels? It would be worth it if even for a few extra $. -

I've seen that protien pack, the one with an egg, cheese and fruit. That might work in a pinch. I might even be tempted to have my first post-op cup of coffee! -

The one great thing about the trip will be Thanksgiving day. The hosts are having a smorgesborg, bring a dish kind of thing. So lots of selection and small plates! I will be good to go that day! -

Great ideas! Thanks for this list. I will definately go with the tuna and lite mayo packs, that will be small enough to pack. Did not know about hard boiled eggs staying good! Your peanut/other nut butters in packs is a great idea, too. Love the small chest idea, I think I am going with that. I appreciate these ideas! I'm clueless at this stage -

Thanks! I had not considered the foiled tuna packs- perfect idea! this and cheese will pack in my suitcase fine. And protien bars in my carry on, seems like a good plan. -
What was your "last" meal?
The New Kel replied to lgivaudan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The night before I started my pre-op we went to a cool restaurant in El Paso that served gourmet burgers. I had the "California burger"... marbled grassfed beef, terriaki, avocado, pineappe, lettuce and onion. It was awesome. I suppose I will have it again someday, just a quarter at a time! -
I am looking ahead to when I can eat more normal foods. In about 6 weeks, when it is getting cold outside, I would like to have a couple healthy WLS friendly chili recipies. Perhaps with turkey? Any good recipes out there?

Wow. Really?? She is either clueless or snarky. Maybe she is a smidgon envious of how you eventually look and feel. Let's hope ffor clueless. Anyway, just think of how great you feel when you start going into work looking and feeling even better than her.

The New Kel replied to facebro29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, not really. I don't go often though at all. I have heard that it can take up to 10 days sometimes before you go. I thnk its normal since all we are allowed at this stage is liquid. Have you asked your surgeons office? How are you doing otherwise? -

@@Nerdgrl, I hear you about the non-glam food! I felt weak yesterday and couldnt somach another icky protien shake so took teaspoon of avacado and smashed it up with non-fat mayo and a squeexe of lime. Looked awful but that tiny bite did the trick. LOL! And I also Pinterest like crazy!! -
@@PorkChopExpress has made some really great points. I am only 11 days post-op but have realized already that I have been given a TOOL to loose the weight, a great tool, but that I have to conquer my behavioral, emotional, addictive and habitual issues that led me to being overweight. Post surgery so far I have been able to manage my physical hunger and body. But the mind plays some wicked games, and I have often thought about how food used to literally consume so much of my life. For example, Sundays during football season. I think I enjoyed the abundance of fatty Snacks and alcohol more than the games. It is mental. I realize now how much mental energy and thought I have always given food, eating and preparing to eat. I think it ran my life and my optimism and happiness came from food and the thoiughts of having it. I am now having to shift that energy elsewhere to be happy. I am very new to this, but I am using the way I feel (healthier already) and the thoughts of what I will soon be able to do when I weigh less as motivation for my happiness, something to replace food as my sole driver. You might think about a support group if you have similar issues. My surgeons office has one monthly and I plan on going. It is good that you are looking ahead and planning for what is to come. Good luck to you!!!

Question about meat ?
The New Kel replied to christinah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not at that stage yet, but I have heard that rotisserie chicken is a good choice especially if you chew it up until the consistancy of apple sauce, then swallow. -

@@facebro29, @@Nerdgrl We were all sleeevd aroud the same time (I was Oct 3), so it's great to see your updates. I am happy to hear that you both are finally feeling better! I have been doing ok, mostly good. I just get a bit of nausea and a headache sometime, but all in all, good! I've lost 7 lbs since surgery day, but I had lost 17 lbs during my two week pre-op diet so all considered 24 lbs gone! I am curious to know what you are eating/drinking at this stage. I am still on full liquids. Can't wait till I can have real food again, lol! (my saving grace is a little bit of tomato basil bisque Soup in the evenings.) Best to you both! -
Anyone interested in finding local pals?
The New Kel replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I grew up in Auburn! Then lived in Sacramento for ages. I now live in El Paso, Texas. Sure do miss my old stomping grounds! @@QueenOfTheTamazons -
Same here! The protien shakes are now making me nauseous. I was sleeved Oct 3, and now am pretty much having exactly what @@BetterOffRed is having- two shakes (forcing them down and it takes forever) plus a yogurt and strained Soup in the evening. Tonight I had tomato basil....yum!

Post op - all liquids
The New Kel replied to itzbrittaanyx3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can manage 60-80 oz a day. But I am only able to stomach half the protien shakes. Those make me nauseous.. -

Gastric sleeve surgery dates?
The New Kel replied to xlindseyx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 3rd, 8 days ago. Everything is going very well except that I am begining to absolutely hate my protien shakes, and they are the only source of protien I am allowed to have at this stage (full liquid), I hate them so much now that I am only able to get down 2 a day. Which mean that by 3 or 4 pm the last couple days I feel weak. Tryng to get some calories in by having strained Soups. How have you all been handling the full liquids phase? -
My local deli has low sodium roast beef and other low sodium cold cuts. The trick is getting them from the deli where they slice it for you rather than the pre-packaged stuff which is loaded with sodium and not as tasty. I have been choosing low sodium deli meats for a few years now, and the quality is much better! Some experienced people here have recommeded rolling up cheese and a low fat condiment like mustard/low fat mayo with it.

I second the layering idea. I am still 9 days away from "real" food, but have already decided I am going to try this. Take the 4 oz container and layer with your taco favorites, minus the tortilla. I don't like Beans, so mine will be lean ground beef, cheese, tomatoes and salsa and taco seasoning, equaling about 4oz altogether.
