Congrats! Best wishes for a speedy healing!

I'm just two weeks post op but I found some WLS friendly sushi recipies. Basically, don't use rice or anything fried in it. I would check with you surgeon but my best guess is we can have it after purees.

Congratulations! You'll be feeling great in no time! Welcome to the boards, they are wealth of info. Wishing you all the sucess on your journey!

Hi @@facebro29, I will be starting purees tomorrow. I have no idea what to expect or how I will feel! Keep us posted on how you do. hopefully you will get some good advice here.

Breaking-up with you, food. It's not you, it's me.
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dear Bad food Habits, (love of my life and lifelong comforter), This is sad but I'm breaking up with you, at least I'm taking a long time out and I know our relationship will never be the same. The cloud of delusion is lifting about us, our relationship, just two short weeks after my surgery. Let me start by saying you have always been there for me. When my parents weren't there, when I felt alone, and then in the good time too, when I celebrated, when I was happy, stressed, let's face it. You were there as my go-to for any emotion, really. And I loved you, a bit too much. The problem with our relationship, Bad Food, is that it's dysfunctional. You confort me immensley but you leave me empty later, feeling guilty. There is no true substance in what you give me. What I take from you has hurt me physically and emotionally for 30 years and the end result is isolation from my own life, neglecting friends and family functions, hiding away. I am ashamed at what our relationship has done to me. I have come to realize that almost every single activity of my waking life evolved around you, the thought of you, the joy and happiness that I felt when I knew I would have you again. It is this dysfunction that I have to change, Bad Foods. Its not you, it's me. No one ever forced you into my mouth repeatedly. I chose you. It's not easy but I am taking steps to refocus, away from you and towards things that make me healthier. Surgery was just the first step. Look, I know I will never forget you, afterall you were my first and longest love!I will continue to see you everywhere, you can't be overlooked. Fastfood restaurants, the bakeries, the parties, football Sundays. You have an allure and charm that has worked on my like magic and I have become addicted. My family still loves you so you will be in our home sometimes. But my relationship with you is over, in terms of the way we were. You know what? I think we can still be friends, and we might even hang out on rare occasions. But not for a long while. I need to get right in the head. Good bye, I'll miss you, my lifelong comfort. The New Kel -

Thanks for these kind words @hmvjoyce. I know that most of us on this journey got here do to our relationship with food. I am happy that my "letter" has resignated with so many here. It's the first step, recognizing our issues. Best of luck to you in your own amazing journey! -
2 weeks post-op,the highs and lows, so far.
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am two weeks post op today! I feel like October 3rd was a second birthday for me. On that day a new way of life was launched! Physically, I have been really fortunate I think, regarding healing. Surgery was uncomplicated, and recovery has gone fine. Not much pain. The only pain I have had regularly is in my deepest incision site. But that is finally almost gone! I didn't have much gas, and not a lot of nausea post-op. I am still on full liquids and trying to be creative so I don't go crazy. I have my protien shakes (which are begining to make me nauseaus), non fat sugar free yogurt, and strained soups- tomato basil is fantastic! I really needed something non-sweet tasting with protien so I took a carton of non-fat cottage cheese and I put it in the blender till it was thinned out to the consistancy of yogurt. Sounds disgusting right? It works for me, I eat 1/4 cup or less at a time and it helps the cravings for savory. I have had a couple days of extreme weakness. As in having to lay down for hours. I realized that it was not drinking enough of the Protein. Emotionally, it's been harder. I realize now I was a food addict. So, so many aspects of my life revolved around food (bad ones), pre-surgery. Now post surgery, I find that I have hours of time that I have to fill with new, healthy activites and hobbies. The biggest eye-opener for me 2 weeks out is how much time and mental attention that I used to give bad food. It was my life! So....reinventing now. So, this is my experience two weeks out! I see the surgeon and NUT Wednesday. I am hopeful to graduate to pureed or soft foods! Stats: HW: 239 9/23/16 SW: 219 10/3/16 CW: 211 10/17/16 -

@@simpsongrad, Congratulations on the start of your journey! The 25th will be here before you know it. I understand fully about the food crutch. I can say already that I know the mental aspect of WLS is going to be the toughest part, but surely rewarding once the demons are dealt with . Best of luck to you and wishes for a smooth recovery! :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Has anyone been called fat?
The New Kel replied to tanya0974's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@tanya0974, It's good that you are mentally strong enough to make yourself better and brush off the soon to be ex's comments as his own terrible insecurity. In my experience those who throw stones are just trying to keep you in the same sphere of misery that they are in. No one needs that. I have a couple to share, Painful but in the past. I lived with a boyfriend many years ago. I was fully aware that all his ex-gfs had been rail thin. But I was somewhat confidant that he loved me for who I was. One night, in bed, during intimacy he said "I have never been with anyone as thick as you." That really hurt me. I was only a size 14-16 at the time. When I was 12, my dad called me fat. I've never forgotten that moment. At age 47, I am blessed to be married to the most considerate, loving man on the planet. He supports my surgery journey but loves me in any shape. Best of luck to you in your journey! -
Hi @@facebro29, I'm also 12 days post op and I definatley have great days and bad ones so far. Two days ago was awful. Weak, nauseous and just yucky all over. I was literally in bed at 5pm when my husband came home. Then yesterday I hit an upswing and felt great, and gots lots of things done! Are you having a hard time getting the protien shakes down without feeling sick? I know I am. And when I don't drink them I suffer from the same weakness you are describing. Hang in there. I think we will be moving towards more great days than bad ones soon.

Anybody 4-5 days out feeling hungry?
The New Kel replied to mr1121's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was hungry 4 days out. I was worried that my surgery didn't remove the hunger hormone that I was told it would. I am now 12 days post op. I still do get hungry but less now, and I am managing it with protien shakes, Soups and yogurt. It is hard to say whether the 4 and 5 day post op hunger is true hunger or head hunger. I was really getting mentally down about missing my past go-to comfot foods. I am slowly learning to manage that part. -
What Is Your Beverage of Choice?
The New Kel replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Vitamin Water Zero is my Go-To! "Fresh Squeezed Lemonade" and Rise Orange" flavors I love. Each botle has 20 oz and I easily drink 3 a day...sipping. -
How Did You Get Through the Pre-Op Diet?
The New Kel replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
it wasn't easy! After about 4 days I was really grumpy. I had to apologize to my husband and let him know I wasn't myself and he understood. he also began making all the meals for himself and the kids. I pretty much went into the other rooms when he was cooking and eating with the kids. broth, especially in the evenings was a saving grace and perfect relief from the too-sweet tasting shakes. Also- taking walks! I was amazed that I had the energy, and it felt really good. It was a great way to distract from the constant cravings for food. My dog benefited from the walks too . And then, just kept reminding myself that there was an end. That is helpful! -

Traveling week 7 post-op, need advice!
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be flying out of town to see my daugther for Thanksgiving week, 5 days. The day I arrive will have been sleeved exactly 7 weeks. I'll staying at a hotel, and won't have a car. (wanting to save $), so I will be dependent on my daughter, her boyfriend, and his family for rides. I've already booked the hotel and it looks like it doesn't have a mini-fridge. I shluld have looked into that before booking. I am nervous about having small, high protien "meals" accessible. I can have their continental Breakfast, and I can ask my daughter to take me to grocery stores but then where do I store stuff? There is a Starbuck accross the street of the hotel but I can't exactly eat there! I am afraid of feeling a bit out of control over the circumstances. Since this lifestyle is new to me, I don't know what I will be eating mostly at week 7. And how do I make sure I have healthy Snacks available? Can anyone help with experience in traveling early on? I am rethinkiing the car situation. I might really need to rent one. -

@@Heather I, I have always been a fan of Starbucks. Funny, before surgery I was a fanatic. I loved everything about coffee, especially theirs! Since surgery I have not had the desire (I've been drinking tea), but I have the feeling the minute I step into the Starbucks, especially on a cold fall afternoon the desire will vome right back! I will have my eye for the protien boxes. I had a one prior to surgery as well, and they pack a good punch! Thanks for the reminder! -

@@PorkChopExpress, thanks for the advice. I'm glad you brought up the restaurant/eating out thing. My daughter will definately want to go to a couple eateries. (which will be interesting becasue she is a vegetarian and I will be seeing lean meat protien!) I probably won't go out to eat until then, so it will be new to me. I will take your advice on ordering just lean meats, skip the breads. And of course I would want to take at least half out in a box but that will depnd on if I get the cooler. It will be an adventure for sure, but at least I will be on week 7 and not 2! Thanks again and good luck on your trip as well. We got this! -
