7 weeks out and traveling, no appetite, can't eat a thing!
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy early Thanksgiving all. I am traveling, got in Monday and am staying in a hotel all week. I have not been able to eat anything except yogurt (a little) since I left home. I've tried everything and nothing is going down without pain and immediate fullness. Also, I have had zero appetite for three days. I have had maybe 400 calories total since Monday. Could it be travel stress? I'm getting a lot of stomach spasms. Tomorrow (Thanksgiving) I will be in mixed company, most of who don't know I've had surgery. Should be interesting, especially not being able to eat at all. -
Well I have zero appetite for three days now, so won't be eating really. I have to master the art of arranging food on my plate as to not look weird on mixed company!

The sleeve is like a backpack..
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was trying to describe what having the sleeve is like, when it comes to eating to my mom. She is curious as to what its like, eating choices, etc. I thought the best way to describe it to someone who hasn't experienced it is like this: Say you are headed off on a month long voyage. You only have a small backpack, no suitcases. What would you pack? You'd pack the smallest, most efficient items you could that would be the most helpful along your journey. You would naturally skip the extra stuff that your large suitcases would have allowed. Your choices as to what you pack into you little backpack would be based on usefulness. This is what my sleeve feels like. When I am choosing food, I'm leaving behind the filler. Just no room in my little backpack. -

She did! It helps so that when I'm visiting with her she understands why I won't want a cookie...or three -
I just bought some mixed nuts today. I love nuts. I plan on having then sparingly and only if I am low in calories for the day.

This sounds fun! I would be in. -
Getting close to Thanksgiving, always gets me feeling grateful for what I have. Thought we could post what we are feeling thankful for currently! For me when things get rough, I like to look back and remember what there is to be happy about. So here's mine as of today: My husband. What a rock..funny, supportive, smart, sexy, and genuinely the nicest person I've ever met. I do not know how in the heck I got so lucky. My pets. The most unconditional bundles of love I've ever experienced. They are very much my "kids"! My parents. Always there for me, wonderful people all the way through. My daughter. Brilliant, compassionate with a heart of gold. She's had my heart completely since she's been born. Love her so much. Health. Getting healthier and feeling better every day. 6 weeks post-op, starting to physically feel WELL, which is awesome. My job. I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree this year and I finally work in my field of passion: art and design. Finally working with professional, considerate people for the first time ever. Location. Living in there Southwest. Sun all the time. Love it.. Cooking. Learning new healthy recipes is so fun! Autumn. Favorite season. Exciting possibility for next year: Husband and I are thinking about going to Ireland next spring!! Alway wanted to go. hair. I got a cut that I really like. I'm appreciating it before it starts falling out!

6 days post op mental hunger..

Absolutely what LxA said "you'll have to confront your dysfunctional relationship with food and it will be a break up. Eventually the head hunger moves on". I second that! -

Thoughts on Naturade Vegan Protein Shake?
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been struggling with Protein shakes since surgery, mostly nausea. I bought a trial envelope of Naturade Vegan Protein in vanilla. 20 grams of protein for 2 scoops. Slightly higher in carbs (10g) than the non-pant based shakes. I am sipping a shake now and it's slightly chalky. However the taste is not bad at all. I think I could stir it into foods to make high protein recipes. Does anyone have thoughts on point based protein? I am hopeful my stomach handles it better. -
Tpoor25, Thank you for coming back and sharing your success..you look so fit and healthy! Really awesome. I am truly inspired! (6 weeks post op here).

I dreamed of eating juicy burgers while on my pre-op diet. Last night, 6 weeks post op, I dreamed of being chased and stalked by Michael Myers. I hid in a dryer. Been having more nightmares since losing weight.

OK I should have taken a picture, I forgot! Tonight I grilled Greek chicken Kabobs. (Kebobs kotópoulo). The marinade was so tasty- yogurt, lemon, balsamic, rosemary, oregano, feta, and white wine. I also marinated olives, bell pepper, mushrooms and onion, and added them to the chicken skewers. I made a Greek dipping sauce with yogurt, lemon, dill, diced onion, fresh thyme, and a pinch off garlic, olive oil and salt. A bit of fresh black pepper on top. The kids loved them too, they had white rice with them, I just had half a kebob. Delish!

I know this has been done before but...attention
The New Kel replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have only begun my journey, but have dropped from a size 20 to a 14. In the grocery store yesterday, two different men began small talk with me. It's been years... It got me wondering. I don't know if the new attention is because I look a little better, or perhaps because I feel better about myself and I'm no longer avoiding eye contact. Maybe both. -
How Will This Thanksgiving Be Your Healthiest Yet?
The New Kel replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm going out of town and will have TG dinner with my daughter and friends. I plan of having a couple oz. of dark meat turkey and maybe dabble in the gravy . Maybe a teaspoon of cranberry (yum), and a bit of veggies. Can't wait! I love Thanksgiving! I'm thinking about bringing some sparking apple cider- is that loaded in sugar?? I'll skip it if it is. -

What are the weird and new foods you like post op?
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have this new Breakfast I eat that I think is weird.. but I love it. I mix low fat sour cream with no sugar added ketchup, and drop a spoonful over a sunny side up egg. My husband is horrified by the look of it. I also now like bacon (if high quality like butters block), in small amounts. Never liked it before. I can now tolerate spicier foods, whereas before I hated anything spicy. And I'm from El Paso, lol. What are some of your post-op new food loves? -
That moment when you realize the sleeve is saving you from yourself
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 weeks post op VSG. This past Saturday was a long, tiring day. I had a ton of work, plus stress, was on the go, and pretty exhausted by about 6:30pm. I was driving home and passed by those Golden Arches. Before surgery and pre-op diet I would have, without any hesitation, stopped and ordered an offensive amount of food. Would have "justified" it to myself do to the fatigue and stress of the day. This time, I felt a sense of nostalgia about how easy it was and how much I enjoyed it going down....however, my new defender, the sleeve, stepped right up, just like a really big best friend on the playground protecting me from a bully. The sleeve basically took over and before I could even get a craving, it was stepping in front of me saying NOPE to the obese old me who would have previously persuaded me (without much effort) to indulge. I felt as thought the sleeve was in control and I was thankful. I am admitting to great personal weakness and without the sleeve, I would have caved. Feeling grateful. -
