Post surgery - regular foods
Travelher replied to nikko9599's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My plan allowed mashed potatoes at week 3. Though I generally have avoided carbs. My first non purée was 2 poached eggs really runny. Was amazing! -
Montreal as well has great Bariatric surgeons. My doc does the sleeve as well. I traveled from toronto to Montreal for my revision. When I live in vancouver I went to Seattle to get my band...that was 11 years ago

I guess I have hit a stall
Travelher replied to Redmaxx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had one in week 3 and again in week 5. I'm a slow loser though, so when I drop I get excited if it is a pound. Everyone is different -
I always did date 1 in a coffee shop. I always drink water...so non issue. Dinner is never a good 1st date idea anyway since if it is going terribly you are still stuck for another hour. I'm also a fan of activity dates...game of pool, bowling etc...

How do a choose a surgeon ?
Travelher replied to amf1025's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask how many of (the surgery you want) they have done. I had a revision which is much more complicated than a bypass or sleeve alone. I could not find any experienced doctors in my province so I went out of province. The doctor I chose had done over 250 was head of Bariatrics at the local university. He explained the risks and his plans should he encounter x..y...or z. He also provided me with his own individual statistics for complications and issue which were significantly better than the average... -
I got my surgery date band to bypass revision
Travelher replied to sunnydeeliteful's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yay! Congratulations. I had my revision to a bypass at the beginning of October. So glad to finally feel normal. Best thing I ever did getting rid of the band. -
I've had a lot of them in the past. I've been trying my darnedest to get lots water in because I tend to get them when I don't drink/pee enough. When I get them they progress to extremely severe within about 4 HRs (bleeding, fever chills and excruciating pain) because of this my doctor has always given me a bottle of pills so I can start treating right away. I suspect this severe reaction is probably unusual.

Here it is - my newbie post
Travelher replied to rolosmom7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actively avoid food that give me that really full feeling. I take that as a signal that I'm not ready for that food...or I reduce the quantity. Ie with meats I limit to 2 oz even though I'm allowed up to 3 oz on plan. I could be getting rid of shakes now and just eating food for Snacks, but feel too full for lunch if I have a solid food snack in the morning, so I still do shakes for my morning snack. I can have a real food afternoon snack and still be hungry for dinner, so I do that. Bottom line, listen to your body. I'm alsohaving what I call mini stalls and had a week with a 1lb gain (liquids to purees). Week 3 and now week 5. I've been stalling for a week or so then dropping .5 or if I'm lucky 1lb...then back to a stall. It is a bit nerve wracking, but doing my best to deal with it. It has been helping me to occasionally test my urine for ketones...at least when the scale isn't moving the ketones mean I'm burning fat. -
I only lost 14lbs in my 4 weeks post surgery. I started Vitamin Patches right away. So I didn't get tired. Without those I definitely got tired. I never had nausea but I know others that have. I was pretty active right away...but may not be typical? I suggest you check in with your doctor to make sure everything is ok. Can't hurt.

Then the good news is you are still burning fat even with carbs in moderation. I'm a little surprised that your gp gave you the impression that this is a "problem". Are they not aware of your surgery? . It also doesn't account for your cloudy urine because I have lots of keytones but no cloudiness. It is dark yellow because I'm not quite at 2 litres of Water yet though. For me cloudiness has always been a warning sign of a potential uti. But if they tested and no bacteria you are probably fine. Most of us 90%+ are on a ketogenic diet post surgery to help you burn more fat and lose weight.

Did I actually have surgery?
Travelher replied to onelasttime's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Are you measuring? I gained a lb when I went from liquids to soft. It is because I went from an average of 400 to 600 calories a day. Eventually my body adjusted and I dropped again. I didn't feel much restriction until I started soft foods. And thicker purees (like hummus) chicken. I tried a hard boiled egg. And it was too dense and I didn't like that feeling...you wouldn't either. Trust me on that. At 3 weeks out you shouldn't be doing anything to make you feel full. You are still healing. I'm nearly 6 weeks and still being careful not to push anything. I feel like I could eat more than I am, but I am satiated on what I am eating so I'm sticking to it. I also log everything that goes into my mouth in myfitnesspal. -
How much protein do you get in a day?
Travelher replied to cuteNATL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
60-70 grams a day 5. Weeks post op. 1 or 1.5 shakes a day -

Keytones are a byproduct of burning fat, I test my urine everyday to make sure I have Keytones in my urine...helps me cope with the stalls when the Scale isn't dropping. If you are diabetic keytones can be a concern but totally normal if you are trying to lose weight.

Back where I started and 3 weeks away from RnY bypass
Travelher replied to Rachel412's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also had issues with the band. After my sons birth the lowest I got to was 205. I bounced between that and 220ish since. Then the band failed completely and I rocketed up to 260 in a few months. I exceed my pre band weight by 30lbs! I'm now 5 weeks post op and at my pre band high weight. Hopeful I can get down to my band low weight once again -
Much slower weight loss when revision from lapband to bypass
Travelher replied to Pinkgirl1234's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
glad for this thread. I gained a ton of weight when my band failed in the spring 40 lbs in a few months. Someone showed me a picture from the spring and all i could think was omg I look sooo big...then i checked my journal and i was 15lbs lighter than i am now. I was hoping that the "slower" weight loss post revision wouldn't be the case for me only because i gained so quickly. well I went from 7lbs/week in the 2 week pre op to about the same in the first 2 weeks. and now I'm fighting to lose a lb a week. Mentally I'm feeling so behind because I have a ways to go to get to pre-band failure and then i'll start feeling like I'm gaining ground as I work my way down to the pre-pregnancy weight. I'd love to hear from revisionists who did eventually hit goal. I need some inspiration right now... -
Where are all the Canadians ?
Travelher replied to canadianchick's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm from Toronto as well. had my revision to bypass done on Oct 4th. I went to Montreal to have mine done, self-pay. -
Yep, my plan says you can start adding small amounts of fruit in the purees stage. i have 1/2 banana a day.
-
could be. I hope it gets better. it is a visible hard lump about 4 inches in diameter as i (hopefully) lose weight if it doesn't soften it is going to be even more visible. (though not as visible as an extra 90 lbs

Gerd/Gord and weight loss surgery
Travelher replied to morbidobesity's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
from everything I've heard reflux is common with the sleeve. if it is an issue for you I would recommend bypass. if you look at some of the revision posts you will see people doing revisions from sleeve to bypass because of reflux. -
Anyone else had a revision?
Travelher replied to shellbell816's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had band to rny revision. Glad he was able to do an rny. I gather revision to sleeve is easier. -
Congratulations!
-
I had mine revised to a bypass. It was a huge relief and much better. Bypass is better than a sleeve if you are prone to acid reflux.
-
My worked for me reasonably well until I had my son. Afterwards the fills did not work. I would be so restricted in the mornings I struggled to swallow saliva or water. I felt no restriction in the evening. I had acid reflux so bad that I would wake up choking. I had a partial de-fill and decided I would just have to live at my post pregnancy weight and then it failed entirely..I went to have it tested and there was no saline in it. It wasn't holding a fill. I had it put in in 2005 and removed and revised to bypass a month ago...it was such a relief.

Finally approved for Revision Surgery
Travelher replied to jenniebear2002's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Congrats on succeeding with getting the surgery. I had my band removed and a bypass done same day. 1 month post op and I feel great!
