Question for those with office type jobs
Travelher replied to RJrocks's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I went back to work after a week. I worked from home week 2 because there is a hilly walk and standing and jostling on transit for my trip. Didn't want to deal with that 1 week after surgery. -
How long is recovery after surgery?
Travelher replied to OhHeyMarina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. I had a revision to bypass. In the clinic for 2 nights. Left with no pain killers and didn't need them. Went apple picking 5 days post op. Needed to take breaks because I got winded easily. But I had my vitamin patches on and I think it helped. I was working from home one week post op and back in the office after 2 weeks. -
I got my surgery date band to bypass revision
Travelher replied to sunnydeeliteful's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It is slower this time than the last time...but not what I would call slow per se. But when my band failed I put on about 40lbs in 3 months...that additional weight is what I'm working. To take off now. I lost about 15lbs in my first month after surgery and about 16 lbs during the liquid diet. I'm down a total of about 34lbs in 8 weeks if you include pre-op. I fill expect that when I hit the weight I've maintained for the last few years I'm either going to stall or slow right down. -
Former TLBC Patient (Dr. Yau) Lap-Band Removal ... Questions? Process?
Travelher replied to AnneElliot's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was a patient there. I decided to have a revision, couldn't find a doctor experienced enough in Ontario so I went to Montreal to have it done. Best thing I ever did. Am a little mad at myself for not thinking of it sooner. -
How does everyone deal with the social pressure to eat while eating out?
Travelher posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I went out for dinner for the first time with my husband last night. I ordered Soup and ate about 3/4 cup. The server asked me if everything was ok? With concern. I assured him it was delicious and prayed the owner did not also come and do the same. It was a flashback to 10 years ago when I was first dating my husband and I had a lap band and waiters would do the same thing. It was embarrassing because it happened on almost every date. My husband would probably have never noticed it had everyone else not kept pointing it out. How do you handle this? -
I had a one week stall at 3 weeks and it is fairly common and totally normal. I even gained a pound when I went to purees. Your body is just adjusting and will start dropping again. I had another one at 5 weeks (and i got frustrated again) but rationally i knew it would come off again...no need to panic. Stalls are all part of this. I'm not looking forward to the 2 month stalls I've heard about. 1 week is nail biting enough for me

OMG I love my Vitamin Patches. I started the multi one during my pre op and then post op i added the Vitamin D b12 and Iron. I'm wearing all 4 as I type this now. You can get them straight from patch MD or you can get them from the bariatric pal store.

How long did you miss work?
Travelher replied to Cander's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would take more than a week. I took one week and the worked from home my second week. And I was probably more active than most. You still are pretty low energy on week two. -
How did you choose between bypass and sleeve?
Travelher replied to annasr08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my doc steered me to bypass. though sleeve was the backup (i'm a revision). He said bypass because they know it works +years. He said sleeves look good and are nearing the 10 year mark but until a surgery has been around 10 years it isn't proven and talked about in the early days of the band it looked good too, but now they know it is not great. I also had reflux so didn't want to go through that anymore. so basically I was already having one revision I didn't want to risk having a second. -
Time to Brag: Share Your Recent Accomplishments!
Travelher replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I stuck to my guns when my seven year old wanted me to make him a separate dinner because he refuses to try anything new. (I made stuffed orange peppers). after a tantrum, stomping, being sent to his room. he decided to come back down and eat it on his own. Now he's having a fruit bowl for dessert because he already had a halloween candy today and he is rationed and gets to make a choice about when he wants it. this is something we discussed yesterday and he agreed to so he's being good. Honestly this is a bigger win for me than me sticking to plan. I can control myself, with him it is much harder. the good news is he is and has always loved meat first, my brother kids only eat white foods...so already ahead, I figure. Oh and I got my husband to agree to no junk food Snacks in the house! Huge win! -
Thai spring rolls
Travelher replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ive made them before. if you are ok with the calories/carb content...go for it. warning they can be hard to work with/tear easily and you have to keep them moist while you work. good luck! -
Believe it or not? The Scale's BMI reading
Travelher replied to Willow818's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Online BMI calculator should be fine. I had a bmi of 44 and had a 2 week pre-op diet. -
call your doctor and let them know and stick to the liquids for the remainder of the time. You doctor is the only one I would trust to make that judgement.

Getting nervous and have a few questions...
Travelher replied to Hopeful16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lucky. I had to do a 14day liquid diet and based on what i've seen on here the vast majority do have to do it. It is to shrink your liver, so I suggest you stick with it. It is a struggle but you do get used to it. I didn't go home same day. I had to stay for 2 nights (just the practice for a revision). at the clinic I go to sleevers stay 1 night. I'm grateful for the night in the clinic because I had nurses there to ask questions of and help walk or go to the bathroom. a lot of people have nausea so it is good to be able to get medication etc for that. The negative about the clinic I was at was no single rooms and my roommate snored so I would have killed to go home for night two. -
Upper Respiratory Infection AKA cold...
Travelher replied to Kaitlin Ashley's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've had 2 colds since my surgery (the first one came on day 2 in the hospital). yes the post nasal drip made my tummy feel full the whole time. I was lucky that they only lasted a day or two. watch that whatever medications you take do not have ibuprofen. I used a nasal decongestant spray to help keep the sinuses clear. it helped the most. I did not have nausea or throw up. but I heated all my fluids (even shakes) to help them go down easier. I think if you can't keep anything down you should talk to a doctor..just in case you are developing a stricture, that is something they will want to treat right away -
Question for former banders
Travelher replied to show1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
looks like you are newly sleeved. (like a week or so out?). I was lucky because not much scarring. it was why i got a bypass, if there was scarring it would have been a sleeve. I know the first week was pretty tough to get all my liquids in. this is what helped me...warm liquids go down better. with cold I got pain and lots of gas. I was heating everything...that eventually got better and now in week 5 I can drink cold liquids without an issue. I was mostly focusing on getting Protein early on. My plan allowed for 5 meals a day...during the first 2-3 weeks it looked like 5 1/2 cup portions of liquids. warning...when you move to purees1/2cup may be too much. eat until you are satisfied not until you feel stuffed. I tried a hard boiled egg. it was too dense and made me feel uncomfortable so I went back to liquids for a day or 2 until I went back to purees/soft. most important is the Vitamins. I use the PatchMD and started in my pre-op diet. i think those helped immensely with my energy. I'm almost at 6 weeks and feel totally normal now....still keeping my portions small.. 1/2-3/4 cup depending on what it is. Keep in mind everyone is different. eg i know my pouch is double the size of the average bypass patient because the band stretched the stomach. -
Weight loss rx+sleeve before a revision?
Travelher replied to Womanvsmirror's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Have never taken a weight loss pill. Never occurred to me. I can speak from personal experience that people revise from a band because of complications. It just doesnt work for a large percentage of people. My band caused acid reflux so bad I would wake up choking and gasping for breath. In the morning I would struggle to get Water through at dinner I had no restriction at all. Then it failed completely and wouldn't hold a fill at all, so I pretty much lit 16k on fire years ago. I should have just done a bypass to begin with. Most people I've seen go from sleeve to bypass are doing it because they developed acid reflux from the sleeve and bypass often cures it My surgeon said that doctors who are still banding should be sued for malpractice because there is enough evidence now to support not doing it. -
Question for former banders
Travelher replied to show1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure what the question is. Did you have your band removed? Did you have a revision? I'm a former banister who had a revision to rny 5 weeks ago -

1 month surgeversay! And a "WTF body?" question
Travelher replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definite difference in plus sizes than regular. My lane Bryant size 18 jeans are too big (I can pull them on and off without undoing them). But my Eddie Bower size 18 jeans are too tight...cameltoe tight so can't do them yet. I love my ponte pants from lane Bryant because they are like a dressy yoga pant and fit me now and will still fit me if I lose 15lbs -
Stall at 2.5 weeks out.

What apps do you use.
Travelher replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Myfitnesspal for me. With myfitnesspal I can add and adjust recipes and track my weight and set goals for carbs and protein and calories and track my meals. When I get a Fitbit it will also sync with that. -
