I'm 6ish weeks out and I'm falling in the 650-800 calorie a day range now. I started slowly adding 1/2 banana once per day into my shake a couple of weeks ago. Then I stalled for a week elliminated the 1/2 banana...boom started dropping again. I'm not exercising like crazy but getting 10-14k steps in a day. I have not so much had a piece of popcorn. I figure I'm one of those people with a carb sensitive body.

My surgery was oct4. Down nearly 40 from highest weight. Am now in regular food sticking to plan. Very close to if not hitting water goals most days. Hitting protein every day (still do 1 shake a day) have clocked just under 12k steps today.

Sleeve to bypass revision tomorrow! Need advice and success stories
Travelher replied to PortlandGirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm about 6 weeks post op band to bypass. I'm eating regular food now (low carb of course) this is the best thing I ever did. Am mad at myself for not doing it sooner. I swear the recovery was easier than I remember the band being. Zero regrets here and down nearly 40lbs from my high weight 8 weeks ago. -
Dr MICHEL GAGNER, Montreal, anyone? need reassurance before i take the plunge!
Travelher replied to shimmer's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I've heard good things about dr. Gagner. I went with dr. Christou for my band to bypass revision. I think dr. Gagner was a former student of dr. Christou so he had good things to say. I went with dr. Christou because he seemed most experienced with revisions (more than 250). Not a lot of doctors in Canada have much revision experience. -
I would check with your dietician. I've never heard of the milk diet. I have a milk aversion so I would not have been able to do it. The point is low carb so i would compare the stats of the two. I hated the optifast shakes they wanted me to do so I found another shake with comparable stats and the dietician was ok with it,

Facial before and afters
Travelher replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the ap. just tried it. The after is woke up with yesterday's makeup and didn't brush my hair. But was out late at a party last night.. I think most of my weight so far is coming off my face. Haven't changed a clothes size yet. this is about 6 weeks post op -
I'm about 6-7 weeks post op and feel normal now. I'm lucky though as I've never gotten nauseous. I went out for Japanese for Lunch and have a Mexican themed dinner party to go to tonight. I just look for things on plan. So for lunch I had salmon poke which was basically salmon with avocado in a citrus dressing. It was an appetizer so perfectly portioned for me. I'm at 1/2-3/4 cups of food now. But that is proababy more than most. I had a band to bypass revision. So bigger pouch. From what I understand most people end up with about a 1 cup capacity

2 week liquid diet.
Travelher replied to _bribri1001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you on a ppi? I wasn't and experienced what you did. I felt hungry all the time rumbly tummy. Could not have anything remotely citrusly..no crystal light or anything or my tummy got really angry. I burped non stop. I didn't develop reflux (that I noticed) until purees. I called my doc and insisted on a prevacid prescription and miraculously, one day after taking it...totally normal! "Hunger" pains gone...acid reflux gone..it changed my life -
Your sister clearly has issues and that is HER problem. Don't make it yours. I get that it is hurtful feeling betrayed by someone you trusted. I grew up with a mother who berated me for my weight from an early age. I was told things like people don't hire fat people. At my own wedding she slapped my hand away when I reached for a bun in the bread basket. I wasted a lot of years being angry at her for something that I realized was HER issue and I had made it mine. After that I realized I needed to feel sorry for her not mad at her. And it was her issue and it was there (in her case) because she grew up with a horribly abusive mother. At 110lbs she can not get skinny enough to be satisfied. When I let that go I started being happy in my own body no matter what. Now I'm doing surgery for my health not so satisfy my or anyone else's neurosis or problems...so when my mom told me my weight loss goal is not low enough..I just sigh and remind myself it is her problem raising it's ugly head and I let it go, instead of letting it derail me. You can do this! I believe in you. Go to a local support group. Find people who do support you and spend some time with them. If I can resist the urge to kill my hubby and steal his popcorn (my kryptonite) you can too. Also, call her out on her crap. Next time she does it confront her...she needs to know what she is doing is destructive for her...not just you and it is not ok for her to treat you like that.

I could not stand the Optifast they gave me so my dietician let me try other shakes. I did the lean shake from GNC, but now that I've discovered Premier Protein it stick with it. I love the chocolate with PB2 added to it...

Does your plan allow purees at that point? If so proabably yes.

Does anyone purposely vary their caloric intake?
Travelher replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
nope. Ive set my goal at around 850 and don't often make it that high. doesn't seem to matter I''m still losing and actually increasing my calories broke my last stall. Frankly a pound a day is not realistic for any length of time (i only lost at that rate during my 2 week liquid diet and not since) so don't get used to that as normal or you will drive yourself crazy. .5lbs a day is fantastic, works out to about 15lbs a month which is pretty rapid weight loss as far as i'm concerned and that is faster weight loss than i expect for myself. I still do one shake a day, but I enjoy it. I used restoralax and don't get constipated. My stalls have typically lasted a week. I'm religiously sticking to plan and weighing and measuring everything still. Keep in mind that outside of bariatric surgery a 10lb loss for a month is considered extraordinarily great. This is a long game. choose foods well and stick it out and your body will do what it needs to do. from what i've read most of what you lose in the 1st year is mainly determined by genetics but what you lose beyond that and whether you have maintained it at 3 years out is much more influenced by your lifestyle and food choices. the vets on here who've been successful all echo that. -
Is peanut butter a good source?
Travelher replied to iam_yamii's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also a huge fan of PB2. I get it at GNC and I swear I could just eat it off a spoon. I also add it to my Protein shake. I probably get 10 extra grams of protein a day most days from the PB2. -
No Hate Just A Bit Help
Travelher replied to NewKarliGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
good that your dietician is accessible on short notice. I went out with my husband while on purees, I find there is usually something. Luckily the had an amuse bouche with hummus, so I was able to have that and then I ordered french onion soup, but avoided the bread and cheese and just ate the soup. Sounds like the lasagne worked for you. when I was on mushy foods I did make my own mini lasagnas at home with sauce, cottage cheese with a little mozza and a little parmesan mixed in and a little ground beef (no noodles) (baked them in the oven. going forward I'll be making mine with zucchini instead of noodles. still delish. -
Let your doctor know, they may need to up your dose. I didn't get a PPI. I also had wicked acid reflux, but my prevacid prescription has totally elliminated it. I had to call my doc and ask for the prescription.

I don't know about not losing as much but most doctors will warn their revision patients that they will lose more slowly. We don't get the rapid "honeymoon" period drop that many others do first time. I figure it is because our bodies have been there done that and have it figured out. I knew that going into this so I have been religious about following low carb eating and measuring everything and logging every piece of food that goes in and trying my best to get to 10,000 steps so that I can do the best I can to outfox my body. My goal is still the same as my lowest maintenance weight when the band was working.

Feel like I'm not accomplishing anything
Travelher replied to Asmundson69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my experience with stalls are this..I stall and stick the longest at weights I lived at the longest I can tell you now what weights I will stall at. it is where your body wants to stick..you just need to wait it out. I have also noticed that I don't drop clothes sizes unless I'm in a stall. How weird is that? Also the lower your BMI gets the slower you can expect to lose. I would personally kill to be in onderland and I will feel more comfortable to lose slowly when i'm there because I'll be able to wear nice clothes again, not have to shop plus sized anymore etc. There really should be no rush. I'd like to be goal for my 50th birthday, but if I don't hit it oh well. I will after. Did you take before pictures? take a picture now and put it next your before picture. that should help give you perspective -
I had my revision done about a 5 HR drive away. Was able to do everything remotely to prep through my pcp. My surgeon sent her all the pre-op testing instructions for what needed to be done. I spoke to the nurse and dietician on the phone. They mailed me the Optifast with instructions on when to start. I could just call or email with questions. Stayed in a hotel the night before surgery and met my surgeon right before surgery. 2 nights in the clinic. They ask that you stay in town for 4 days afterwards, but I think that is mainly for the ones flying in because the issues you can have with altitudes if you still have gas in your system, my docs said I was fine to go home after surgery...just stop for frequent breaks to walk. I had a scheduled 1 month call with the dietician, and another at 3 months. They sent my pcp the instructions on what blood tests to do at what intervals. She also has to sent them the results and my weight for their records. Been good

What surgery are you pick and why
Travelher replied to candacer's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Bypass. Proven to work over decades. Less risk of acid reflux...and the band was a literal failure...it broke so it had to come out. Sleeve was my backup if they couldn't do a bypass but was afraid of the reflux since I had it with the band. -
I use patchmd. I get the multivitamin, b12 and vitamin d. My doc has me doing iron as well

Anyone willing to share their food diary?
Travelher replied to bostonmama's topic in Food and Nutrition
Totally, I'm on myfitnesspal. If you are I'd be happy to share the diary on there. -
Definitely do your research. I just had a revision (self pay). It was done in one procedure. I wanted bypass so this is what the surgeon told me. If there isn't a lot of scar tissue he can do a bypass. Scar tissue means a sleeve (because they can work around the scar tissue. Erosion of the band means it comes out and they send you home. You can possibly come 6 or so months later and try a revision. A revision is considerably higher risk...you want a surgeon who is experienced with revisions. Ask how many revisions they have done. When I was interviewing doctors the one I chose had done over 250 of them. He said he can tell just looking at the tissue whether it will hold the staples or not...that stuff comes without experience. One of the surgeons I spoke to had done 2 revisions. 2! Yep, I'm happy I chose the one I chose. It was important to me to have it done in one procedure...it means my pouch is slightly larger than they normally make, because the band stretches it out. But he thinks it'll work well for me. I had mine done in Montreal...I paid 23k canadian...so that's like $10 USD now right

Get the jeans. for the first time ever I'm ditching the stuff that is plus size (unless it is a piece I'm in love with, in which case I'll get them altered. I'm lucky because I pretty much have a wardrobe from size 8-18. so I will always have sizes to drop into. I'm one of those people who drops pants sizes slowly but shirt sizes quickly. so was a challenge to figure out what sizes to pack together as I was sorting through my wardrobe.
