Travelher replied to 11072016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The burping when you drink all the time does go away. Happens to me occasionally now..but can't say I notice it anymore -
What is the one food you cannot eat since bypass?
Travelher replied to melliecat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I seem to tolerate pretty much everything. Going to try steak tonight. The only thing that didn't work was roast beef leftovers. I could eat it the first night, not the second -
Are you on a ppi? I experienced hunger too after surgery but also had wicked acid reflux at night. My doctor put me on a ppi and boom hunger gone, It was stomach acid casing that upset stomach hungry feeling.

Mixture of feelings including shame, denial, and more guilt.

I agree with everyone that you look great. You are smart to recognize your habits could cause regain and for wanting to address it before it does. You may be getting in enough exercise because of your active job. Try wearing a Fitbit or other step counter. Are you getting 10,000 steps. Losing or maintaining weight is 90% food. Exercise is great for relieving stress etc. Dr, Matthew Weiner has written a great book and has lots of great videos for wls patients and he explains how it all works. You are correct at identifying sugar as a problem. You can quit the sugar. I'm pretty sure you did it post op. You can do it again. -
Do follow your post op diet Do focus on Protein and Vitamins Do call your doctors office or dietician with questions Don't over eat to try and hit your goals Don't eat things off plan while your stomach is healing Don't drink food or eat too quickly even when you can or you could "dump". I found that one t the hard way. I did not need medication after leaving the hospital. I started feeling more normal at purees and totally normal once back on regular food

Needing ideas on what solids to try out
Travelher replied to kblanc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried everything. I only avoided carbs, very fibrous veggies and tough meats like beef. I started raw veggies with cucumbers. You should be able to eat most cooked veggies. I was fine with chicken, ground chicken and beef etc. They key is to chew chew chew. -
I almost have a surgery date but don't know which surgery is right
Travelher replied to Hollyhock's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I did a revision from a band to bypass. I chose bypass because it is tried and true and been around for decades and is successful. The sleeve was my backup plan because scarring might have prevented a bypass. I was worried about the sleeve for me because I developed reflux with the band and I've read it can be an issue with the sleeve and did not want a third surgery. Thrilled I got my bypass -
Yep I stalled at week 3.

Everything I've heard and read says revisions don't lose as quickly. Our bodies have already figured this out. Remember it is a marathon not a sprint

First time dumping this week
Travelher replied to Travelher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was premier...but not from the shake itself. It was because I drank it too quickly. Chugging the last bit did it both times. I have one every day and no issues. Watch your speed of consumption post op. I'm far enough along that I can drink more and more quickly...do not do it with your shakes! -
From my premier Protein shake. Did it two days in a row. Didn't figure out what it was until the second time because why would I suspect my shake of causing me to dump, I normally nurse my Protein Shake throughout the morning. yesterday I realized I hadn't finished it so I downed the last 3 or so ounces and within 20mins started feeling woozy and generally I'll. Forgot about it and did the same thing today and boom hot flash feeling, woozy, sick and it lasted an hour. Would have never expected my shake to cause it.

Yay! Congratulations!!!!

Sex..... Question for adults
Travelher replied to Raymia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey that's how my husband and I got our 7 year old son too...my husband's response to handing him the pregnancy tests..."why are you giving me highlighters?" Then when I explained I was pregnant he said "f#€k! I should have paid attention in health class!" Luckily we were planning to start trying to get pregnant. It just happened earlier than expected. -
I'm Travelher on there too...you can add me.

My waiter just told me.."you don't eat very much" I said "nope no I don't". He was perplexed when I made him take the nacho chips off the table and refused a water with my meal and then proceeded to barely touch my salad...lol

Yep...much heavier and longer than normal.

Are revisions REALLY necessary?
Travelher replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I hope it continues to work for you! I was so puzzled and frustrated when mine went haywire. I was an early bander so there was no info about complications then. Was frustrating to have it work so well and then one day...wtf is this? -
Are revisions REALLY necessary?
Travelher replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My band worked for me for a few years until I got pregnant. I had a de-fil during the pregnancy and I don't know if my innards rearranged with the pregnancy but I could not do a full fill afterwards. Even with a partial fill I could not wear a bra with an underwire or I struggled to get Water down. If I needed to eat I had to undo my bra, but then there was little restriction (in the evenings). I struggled to get anything down in the mornings. I developed acid reflux so bad I would wake up choking. I suspect maybe a slip during pregnancy while it was de-filled? WHo knows...but it was miserable. Then one day I woke up starving...I knew something was wrong...Went to the clinic and I had less than. 5 cc's left...it had a leak and was no longer holding a fill...so yeah the equipment failed. Love my revision!!! I would never recommend the band to anyone after my experience. The equipment can fail and does. A significant number of people have complications like slips, gerd and erosion. This is why my doctor no longer does that surgery. I do know that some people just don't lose a significant amount of weight after wls of any kind. I like dr weiners video where he talks about the impact of genetics being the primary indicator of weight loss in the first year...it has nothing to do with compliance according to the evidence he's seen. That some people will struggle despite sticking to the plan and others will drop past goal weight without a care in the world..most people will fall in the middle. Where compliance and healthy weight starts separating the herd is at the 3 year mark where you start to see regain in patients. i follow a you tuber who failed to lose despite following her plan. She had a bypass and then stopped losing (a bit of regain) so her doctor put a band on top of the bypass stomach and still no success. So she is trying to get a DS. Her doctor won't do it because it is too risky. I haven't looked into this deep enough to know what the end results are in these types of revisions. Are they successful? Sleeve to ds. Bypass to ds? -
Not to worry totally normal. I actually gained a pound when I went from liquids to purees, it eventually dropped off again.

What stage of food are you at? I didn't start feeling full until I started eating more dense or solid food.

I hated optifast. I do like premier protein. You may want to sample some of the stuff out there. -
Telling a new partner about your WLS
Travelher replied to jmc534's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I honestly can't remember when I told my (now) husband about my weight loss surgery, but I think is was when we started getting serious. I do know that when I did, he immediately shared that he had Crohn's disease and everything was out there...obviously it was a non issue for us and we are still going strong 10 years later. -
Trying to change before surgery. Help
Travelher replied to crawford8903's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is not remotely typical. She likely won the genetic lottery. She did not have the "fat" gene...those people are typical a small minority in the results curve. Most of us will always have to be vigilant to lose as much as we want and keep it off in the long term. Not to say I'll never be able to have a handful of popcorn but I know I won't be able to include junk as part of my regular diet -
Feeling dizzy
Travelher replied to SleeveMeAlone214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have felt faint. It happened on a day where I skipped my afternoon snack because I was busy at work. I was commuting home by transit and had to call my husband to come pick me up. I learned my lesson. My calorie intake is too low to skip anything. Now I make sure I'm getting my 3 meals and 2 Snacks in no matter what. Most important I found in the early days was my Vitamins. -
Average calories after surgery?
Travelher replied to shelly.s's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was never given calorie goals..I did track food though and during full liquids I averaged 450/day. When I moved to purees it upped to around 600-650 a day. Now on regular food I range most of the time between 700-750. I'm not planning or targeting those. I'm mainly tracking protein and carbs.
