My recovery has been horrible
anonmom replied to Brianajubert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried zofran for the vomiting? I would say your body is definitely telling you to slow down. You were only sleeved 3 days before me and I won't start purees for another 2 weeks. I haven't had anything like what you've had though. The first 4 days were miserable, but then I was fine as long as I kept my sips small and my liquids at body (not room) temperature. I haven't thrown up even once. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -

I had a great day today! I got about 60 ounces of liquid in so far and I have a 16-ounce glass by my bedside that I'm going to sip on now. 97 grams of Protein, 440 kcals, 4 grams fat, 3 grams Fiber, 1 gram sugar, and 2 grams other carbs. Also walked around Target for 3 hours this afternoon, and did little 5-minute laps of the first floor of my house in the morning and the evening. And I weighed myself at the pharmacy!! I seem to have lost 6 pounds in 6 days! Tomorrow is my one week post-op, so I'll get to ask the surgeon's opinion on things. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -

The app wasn't letting me post for a couple of days, but today is my 6th day post-op and I'm feeling better every day. Drinking is now less excruciating, as long as I walk or march while drinking. I've also learned to heat everything up to body temperature instead of driving at room temperature. That has helped a lot. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -

Day 4: I did a little bit of research online and I'm going to call my surgeon once the office is open to ask about getting a prescription for a good magnesium supplement, and maybe even some Flexeril (muscle relaxant) or Klonopin (anti-anxiety medication) to get my esophagus to relax a bit. If things keep going the way they are, I can hit my Protein and liquid goals, but only if I make drinking protein Water & etc. my full-time job. My other complaint is that I am so thirsty all of the time, even though I am constantly sipping throughout the day and every time I get up at night, too. I wish this pain would go away so that I could take some decent, thirst-quenching swallows! I also worry that my body will go into starvation mode, since I've had so few calories the last 6 days. Yesterday was the most calories I've had in one day, and that was less than 350. I think I'll also ask my surgeon of it would be OK to put half an avocado and half a banana, blended really smooth, into one of my Protein shakes today. I definitely don't want to do anything to hurt my sleeve or cause a leak, but I think my body must need some fat and some nutrients. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -

3rd day update: today I finally felt much better and I was able to drink 73 ounces of liquids, with 62.7 grams of Protein. I've also been doing tiny "laps" of the first floor. I'm still exhausted, even though I took several naps, so I'm heading to bed! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -
I'm having surgery on Thursday and it just occurred to me that I need to bring a bag to the hospital. And I hate packing. It gives me insane anxiety. When I had my daughter, six years ago, I packed totally wrong for the hospital. I was told to pack clothes that I wore when I was around 6 months pregnant. What a joke! I literally lost 9 pounds after giving birth, pretty much exactly enough to account for the weight of the baby plus the placenta. And my feet were so swollen when I got out that I had to wear a pair of slippers home because none of my shoes fit. I remember some people on my mom board saying they put makeup in their hospital bags, but I honestly don't care what I look like when I'm recovering. In my pre-op class they said NOT to bring meds, that they would give us anything we take regularly, plus anything we need for any pain or discomfort. When I gave birth they had me in hospital gowns the whole time. I only got dressed to go home. Is it the same way with bariatric surgery? If so, I really only need a baggy shirt, leggings, undergarments, socks and slippers, right? Deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, I guess. What else? Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

Who is doing everything RIGHT?
anonmom replied to anonmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I got off my IV yesterday and made it home!! I swear, the only thing that kept me going while I was in the hospital was that I had read so many posts on here from posters who had really bad sleever's remorse for the first few days or even weeks, but after a few months or years they felt like it was the best decision they ever made. Now that I can take tiny sips with no pain and medium sips with only a couple seconds of pain, I feel like I've finally turned the corner and I'm feeling good about this choice again! I know I still have a long, tough road ahead, but it doesn't feel impossible like it did when I was hooked up to the IV and only able to drink 1 ounce of Water every 4 or 5 hours. For me, the problem is that once I have the tiniest bit of refined sugar, I want more. So I have to cut it out completely. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

Yep, they hurt like hell. But you have to tough it out. Marching in place while sipping helped a little bit. Definitely don't want to end up back in the hospital for dehydration! I'm scared to leave the hospital, but I don't think I can stand another day here. Did you go home before you were able to drink enough and just trust that you would be able to do it once you got home and off this awful IV? Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -

Surgery went fine yesterday evening and I was in and out of consciousness all night, but this morning I feel very dehydrated: migraine, dry mouth, etc. I've been told to start drinking 1 ounce of water every 15 minutes, but there is simply no way I can do it. Those esophageal spasms are so extremely painful! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -

I love hearing these positive examples! I'm checked in to the hospital now. I weighed in at 221 pounds. Just found out my surgeon is running 2.5 to 3 hours behind. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -

Low-BMI women who have lost quickly - how did you do it?
anonmom posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm getting sleeved Thursday afternoon and I really, really want to do this right the first time. I don't want to have to have a revision, etc. I know that people lose more weight more quickly if they are male or have extremely high BMIs, but I don't fall into either of those categories. So I'm looking for tips and success stories from other women who got the sleeve when they were around 40 BMI. I only need to lose 80-90 pounds, but I don't want to get stuck only losing a few pounds per month like I hear others complaining about. Thanks! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -
My surgery day is tomorrow! A big thank you!
anonmom replied to jaynamy3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh YAY a surgery buddy! No, I just can't eat or drink after midnight. I'm starting to get a little nervous. Amy☆☆☆ Yup, I'm sitting here reading all kinds of posts and wondering if I will have the same problems others have, etc. I probably just have to put down my phone, lol Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -
Yeah, I hear that. Even 'just' losing 49 pounds would be great for my health and my energy and my self-esteem, etc., but I would definitely prefer to lose the 85 pounds that would bring my BMI into the 'normal' range. Are you following all the rules? Not grazing? Not drinking 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after meals? When you say you are hitting your Protein goals and Water goals "most days" does that mean you're missing them once a week, twice a week, once every two weeks? What are your protein and water goals? How about carbs? Have you tried adding a little more fat to your diet? Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

Weighing or measuring food?
anonmom replied to WitchySar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree with weighing everything. There is no way to know how much of something is in a measuring cup. It depends on density, how it is cut/chopped/shredded, etc. And for things like flour, etc. professional bakers always weigh instead of measuring because even things like the temperature and humidity and how you fill the cup can make a huge difference. Five years ago today...
anonmom replied to Writergirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for writing this. I'm getting sleeved tomorrow and I'm simultaneously ready and not ready. The thought of backing out has crossed my mind several times, but only for a moment each time. I know this is the right thing for me to do. The past 18 months of my life have been like your last 5 years; there has been so much death and so much loss in my family. Every time I lose someone else, I tell myself that I have to go on, I have to keep breathing and putting one foot in front of the other, but that I will not be able to do it if this happens again. Yet it keeps happening. In a way, though, this is what tells me I can do this. I've lost so much already. I'm ready to lose all the weight that is holding me back. And I don't want to wait until I need joint replacements, until I have diabetes, etc. More than anything, I don't want my daughter and my partner to have to lose me early due to heart disease or liver disease or any of the many things that are statistically more likely when you are morbidly obese. Your story and your pictures are amazing! I can't wait to see what I can do when I've conquered my food addiction. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -
Low-BMI women who have lost quickly - how did you do it?
anonmom replied to anonmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I keep hearing how important walking is, and that will be a struggle for me since I live in Minnesota and it is the middle of winter. I think I am going to have to literally drive to the gym so that I can get my steps in on the treadmill. We were just on vacation and I was getting between 9,000 and 16,000 steps in every single day. Since I've been back home I'm only doing about 2,000. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -

anonmom replied to FayBee's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
How tall are you? You look amazing. I get my sleeve in a day and a half and I'm about 20 pounds down from your start weight, but also shorter. My basic figure looks exactly like yours in your before picture. Hoping to lose about 90 pounds total, and look like you do in your latest pic! I also have a busty/curvy shape and I don't want to lose that!! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -

Gas and other fun post-op issues

Try Devrom for the gas odor. You can order it on Amazon and it works great. It doesn't have anything to do with gas pain, though. It is strictly an internal deodorant that removes the odor from your flatulence and bowel movements. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App -
What to bring to hospital?
anonmom replied to anonmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gas X strips are something that are recommended a lot on this board for gas pains. I definitely bought some, just not sure if it is OK to use them in the hospital. I'm pretty sure my hospital doesn't allow the use of any over the counter medications. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App
