    Psych Eval tomorrow

It's just there are a lot of people with undiagnosed issues or even unrecognized eating issues that should be screened in advance bc some ppl just bs whatever to get what they want and then there are huge issues latter that could have been prevented Our society puts mental health 2nd or 3rd place even and dobt take it seriously when it can break or make success even prior to the actual surgery. Most of the psych stuff comes after but it helps when clinics know a client doesn't have good social support for instance... Anyways, off my soapbox..I just find it disturbing that psych part is so disregarded in the pre process as if it doesn't truly matter... Maybe it's bc I do research in psych and public health so I'm exposed more to the consequences if medical and psychiatric negligence...etc

    Therapy

There was recently a thread on this under the same title lol... search for it, it's really good! Ask ur weight loss place for referrals to therapist that work with bariatric patients or specialize in eating disorders etc If no one is available like this, look for therapist that do cbt- cognitive behavioral therapy bc that's one of the best for dealing with food, emotions and behaviors.... Also look for that post in the search area en titled Therapy... It might be helpful for more info on just what you asked... Therapy helps me loads with these and other issues

    Psych Eval tomorrow

Awesome!! Online psych evaluation? That's interesting... I guess if you didn't have a choice, self pay etc, that's good but as a person in the mental health field, I feel kinda distressed reading this. Most of us heavy ppl have emotional eating concerns or related weight related to mental issues and it's important to get through evaluation and treatment especially before, during this surgery and aftermath... I've been in therapy addressing issues and still surprised by how much food and my mental health are twisted now that I am recently sleeved I had a number of paper/pencil assessment test plus a clinical interview with the psychologist part of the program despite having my own therapist and it was extremely helpful...if course, my insurance allowed this and I know not everyone has access but it just concerns me that one can go online and get a psych evaluation for such a major life changing situation...unless it was like a telemental health situation... Just my three or five cents

    Scare and Confused

It IS DIFFICULT but after a few days, no cheats, tge hunger pangs dissipate until you pass someone with your favorite food aroma flying all in your face!! And remember after surgery, the hunger hormone and most if your tummy is gone so you feel very different then now No failure I have to admit for me, I was hungry quite often but now on purees on a schedule with some mild carbs, I'm stuffed in a moment! Just about three weeks out for me Drink Water when you feel the need to eat, it helps along with allotted popsicles etc

    Blood and mucus in stool

That doesn't sound good! Maybe minor like hemroids or bowel irritation from constipation perhaps? But that doesn't explain mucus... Hope yiur appt is asap
  10. Im just about three weeks out and was always hungry and on a PPI. Weight not moving either direction probably bc I walk so much. Still fighting some psych eating issues for sure But I talked to Nut again and her advice was to watch calories closer. I thought I was doing a good thing with having my 25 gram Protein powder with 9 gram of protein fat free milk and 8oz of fage yogurt for another 23 oz of protein for breakfast!; And yes I could drink it all! But she said to much protein at once for the body to handle and a lot of calories si split it or subtract a ingredient She also put me on five meals a day ..small meals every 2.5-3 hours and said I could add in. Little slow burning carbs or light carbs like Melba toast or wasa crackers, brown rice, quinoa etc This has made a huge difference in hunger and I'm quickly satisfied. I still think I can eat more then four bites but still get full fast My big issue is emotionally eating at night when I can't sleep .. that's something I need help with so plan to talk to my therapist about it. Getting in enough fluids is also hard ..before surgery, I drank Water like a camel.... I walk at tge mall or a store for distraction and flat surface. I walk almost a hour most days. I did strain a stomach muscle so docs said gentle walking..ice gotten alot of energy sense surgery so trying to expend it. Anyways, I think the stomach can stretch a little but not a lot unless your making super bad choices. Also carbonation and drinking with a straw as well as chewing gum cab put unwanted air, pressure in the stomach..I accidentally drank with a straw tge other day and it was bad..my tummy was distended into the following day. I could be wrong, but this accidental experience makes me believe my surgeon saying the sleeve can stretch My five or ten cents...
  11. believe me, it's not just a theory, scientific research has illustrated this lots..body still produces insulin in response to fake sweeteners

    sugar too low post op

you might want to ask ur doc about metformin or glucophage xr..it's the extended release so it's in your blood slower. It stopped all of the nasty side effects for me. Only problem is it's a horse pills if you're on 1000! Since my surgery, I'm off of it as well as januvea, and humalog shots. I'm only taking long acting insulin lantus for diabetes right out of the hospital!! Amazing miraculous

    2 week liquid diet.

I was put on protonix for a month automatically right out of surgery so no gerd issues. I felt hungry lots and easily drank 8oz of Soup or Protein drink which scared me! Now on purees and at first, was still hungry as heck but NUT told me so much about protein and handouts, the same, I didn't realize I could have easy carbs like Melba toast with tuna or a Wass cracker or eat slow burning carbs besides Beans. Well, once I added that in, huge difference...no more hungry hippo and full in a few bites. It seems I can still have more than four bites as claimed so dobt know what is up with that but point is, I'm full fast especially with certain foods like a scrambled egg I'm nearly three weeks out and the most challenging I'd getting in enough Water daily.

    Herbal teas.

I like cold herbal teas like peppermint and ginger mixed with something, I like rooibos teas, especially this rooibos and honeybush. I add stevia natural sweetener to it. Also like chai. O found a great decaf tea sampler at cost plus world market... wonderful teas including a surprisingly yummy chocolate one. I like lady grey with milk. Earl grey is nice too but lady grey is lighter and sweeter I enjoy lots of teas, some brands are better than others. I like taoz mmm Bigelow, trader Joe's, and a few others

    Gaining weight before surgery

I gained like ten lbs before my pre op diet. My surgeon wanted me under 300 before I got a surgery date but I attended the support group and suddenly he let me schedule...he did have me do a seven day liquid diet vs a five day which is there normal request and I lost 20lbs I was close but not under 300 at my surgery but he was very pleased

    Does therapy help?

I've seen there are therapist that specializes in food issues or worked in bariatric programs before..si awesome My psychologist doesn't have this direct experience however he has helped me to think about my relationship with food, emotional eating and how my trauma issues might be behind my maintaining so much weight.... He also has given me ideas for managing food triggers and managing difficult times. It helps I also read a book by a dr tanie on coping with or after weight loss surgery. Really helpful Cognitive behavioral therapy really is helpful and one of the best therapies for food issues among other things All therapist aren't created equal so sometimes it can be tricky to find the right one! If course I found a therapist lobefirebefomy sleeve bc I have PTSD and bipolar. I had other things to deal with and feel fortunate to have his support in my journey

that's not good..are you getting your fluids in? Dehydration can do that You should consult your doctor to check glucose and blood pressure Made a huge difference for me to consult NUT who told me eat ever two to two.five hours and now I'm drinking a smartwater with electrolytes too daily pkus added in light and complex carbs

    Post op liquid diet

I hated Isopure unflavored... but I buy g6 sport vanilla with 25 grama if Protein and it's great esp in non fat milk. I get it at GNC where if you become a member for free, you get quite a discount as it is one of the more expensive powders. It's sweetened with all natural non artificial stevia. I'm allergic to tge artificial sweeteners so this has been a life saver. They also have chocolate. I never tried unflavored other other then the highly recommended isopure and it was sooo gross but I have wolf taste buds!! LoimI'm not kidding either! I still drink a Protein Drink even though I'm on purees now
