Should I postpone? Anyone had the single incision gastric sleeve?
Butterflywarrior replied to Hayz6609's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't been sleeved yet but when I was 17, I had 4.5 hour abdominal open surgery, I was on a pain pump after and even though I was young I was in the hospital a little over a week....when I got home on oral pain pills omg girl it was awful. I could hardly sit up and down without holding on to something. Going poo.. ouch... walking in sneakers on cement ouch... those stomach muscles take time to heal and it's painful. I had zero stamina and could only do very short trips out. I can't imagine needing open surgery plus the confines of the diet plus managing company!!!! Unless open surgery is different now, idk... it was pelvic stomach belly button down but I figure as a teen-ager, I had the best advantage...si that's my two cents -
Oh well since ur surgeon gave them to you, there must be a reason likely to keep your blood thin to prevent blood clots if there are regular on the script, then u should fill them. Especially if you are at risk for clots.

I'm about to get v sleeved and I got a medic alert card from my bariatric clinic stating that I'm not to have any aspirin or nsaids bc they can cause stomach damage to the small sleeve so definitely ask your surgical people

You really need to stay hydrated bc dehydration will put you in the hospital and make you feel sick. You can buy ice chips, popsicles and sugar free flavored water to help with Fluid intake as well. Sometimes it's easier to take in fluid that way vs straight water. Getting some anti nausea meds might go a long way as well

Looking for some "buddies" in forum . . .
Butterflywarrior replied to Robin Weinrich's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I'm having my surgery on the 24th as well. I'm in my preop diet stage. Have you tried many liquids or have you just stuck with the Protein shakes and Water? Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App I start my pre op Monday and I'm allowed 3-4 Protein Shakes a day, pkus no fat broths, sugar free popsicles and Jello tea drinks. I plan on utilizing everything except jello. I'm insulin dependent diabetics so they are concerned about hypo attacks but we have a plan in place. -
Proud of myself for tracking on My Fitness Pal...
Butterflywarrior replied to ginabee38's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In regards to being scared and/or emotionally ready: In a way, I kinda feel that without the surgery, I would probably just hover around 260#...I tend to maintain for months at a time, give or take. I feel that, in a way, the much more rapid weight loss with the aid of VSG will lead me into an arena that I haven't been in emotionally in quite some time, if ever. I feel that losing some of the weight is a bit like an accelerated cocoon. Without the surgery though, I've never really had the success needed to even GET to the cocoon stage. Who knows? Maybe I will enjoy being a thinner adult...I feel like once I have the opportunity of knowing how it feels to be thinner, that it will encourage me to maintain any weight that I am fortunate enough to lose. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App Yes I agree with u too...see I was abused and si my therapist is coming from the idea of hiding my self in my fat si going to be skinny is emotionally scary... I overall feel the benefits outweigh the risk -
One person in my support group said they went through severe 24 -7 nausea that stopped them from eating so long they had to be hospitalized and fed via a picc line. Yikes. But b they did get better and now they look awesome. I don't kniw b about the wolf smell and taste thing...maybe the hormonal shifts perhaps? Bad breath though sounds like either mouth or v stomach issues. Wish I knew how to h elp

Wow how stupid of her. I do believe she likely had someone else do it bc I would like to think she was more compassionate and kind, I mean it's almost like a prank, I suppose it's the thought that counts but I would be pissed and knowing me and my big mouth I would nicely say something!! But that's me...I'm extremely assertive bc I have disabilities and have had to vocally fight for my rights ! Whatever the case happy recovery

Return of Gastroparesis?
Butterflywarrior replied to ChronicJam's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't have this condition but know it can be very very ugly and intense. My undrstanding is that it has something to do with the nerves that signal n the stomach to empty? If so...I can see why it could return because nerves can regrow .... but I'm quite ignorant on the details of this condition so I can't really say much. Sorry -

Proud of myself for tracking on My Fitness Pal...
Butterflywarrior replied to ginabee38's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My psychologist keeps bringing this scared to be thin issue up to me lol....maybe..I'm not sure. I know, like you, I don't like tracking either however I wish to hold myself accountable and make the right decisions bc I b d9nt v want to go thru surgery for nothing. I'm a type a personality and I hate to fail I'm very competitive with myself so I n think this v will help me overcome the hatred for tracking and denial lol. -
I've heard and read that when you have hypothyroidism even b with these surgeries, it's sometimes slower to see the weight go, you may have to increase exercise perhaps but it's likely your metabolism.

Well, she gave me a pretty big list of options but flavors are limired although someone in my support group told me there v are also good fruit flavored and as ur able to b eat more, there are bariatric surgery recipe books that tell u how to jazz up Protein drinks with fruit or yogurt ice milk etc, Of course there is some sacrifice involved but it's worth it in the end all, I think at least! I've seen a whole book online dedicated just to shakes and drinks for bariatric surgery

Butterflywarrior replied to lgivaudan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Pumpkin cheedecake, went out for Mexican food as I live in San Diego and had Mc Donalds fries the other night lol. I start my prep Monday and I'm doing one meal replacement now but yeh enjoying b the last sweets and junk chocolate bar while I can but also not like eating loads or huge portions bc I want to shed enough weight for me and my surgeon -
My NUT gave me a list of v what I could use but I believe the general rule is powders need to be whey isolates , I feel I'm missing a word as I don't have the paper in front of me. And protein shakes etc must be under 200 calories less than 5grams of sugar and carbs preferably with fits and minersls

11 months and need some assistance
Butterflywarrior replied to Kim.K84's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't had surgery yet but has ur doctor made hurtful comments before or do you assume he will due to past bbegative experiences in your pre surgery days? I suggest make a plan of action you know you plan in doing like seeing the NUT and maybe therapist too? Why are yiu continuing to self sabatoge this tool?? Emotional eating perhaps? You acknowledge and recognize there is a problem si that's awesome now it's time to seriously intervine and get help to reverse this pattern!! I believe if your doctor is any good, he will recognize the issues, patterns, be happy y didn't just disappear and will help and not ridicule you!! -
ADD and struggles with weight loss...

I don't have add it ADHD although I have almost been dx with it twice?? Strange but do having bipolar anyways., I would thing changing things up a lot would help with work outs, seeing a therapist that specializes in it too and making goals. From what I know about the disorder, I can see how it might contribute to gaining weight and trouble loosing it especially with keeping up with complex diet routines and exercise routines lack of positive stimulation. I dobt know to what degree it would contribute ...I suppose it depends on how your ADHD presents itself etc like my mom has TBI traumatic brain injury that effects her frontal and temporal lobe so executive functioning and impulsivity but she did well with dieting on weight watchers etc when she chooses to I don't have add it ADHD although I have almost been dx with it twice?? What questions can the newbies ask?
Butterflywarrior replied to hudjess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm still fairly new here and I just ask whatever is on my mind. Mostly people respond quite a bit, sometimes bit as much but some better then none. I never got tge impression that new people weren't welcome. I feel bad that you feel unwelcome???? -
