Off track needing meatless protein ideas
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to mari.beth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you eat cheese, try paneer. Its a fresh indian cheese with a mild flavor, suitable for vegetarians. It doesnt melt, has a texture a bit firmer that firm tofu. -
Protein - alternative supplements
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to rolosmom7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought genepro medical grade protein powder at GNC today. It is unflavored and is 30g of protein per serving. It has a slight taste and a bit of a protein smell but is ok. I bought it to beef up shakes and add to jello. I added it to milk without clumps and it wasnt bad. Barely noticiable. -

How do you know what weight you should be?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to alwtg's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My numerical goal is ~ 180, or 200lbs gone. But that is Fluid based on how i look and feel. I want to be a min of 199, so i am out of the 200s. My BMI range tops out at 175 and when i was younger i was told thst my "medical" weight tops out at 165. I wasnt sure I could hit that and wanted realistic goals. My mom (who is 5'5) claims that she looks sickly at 180 but honestly I don't remember her ever weighing 180. A lovely person here who is 5'11 showed me a pic of her at 189. I think she looks fab, so anything in the 180-195 would be considered sucessful to me. -
Im a big fan of pedicures, especially for us big folk who cant really reach down well for toe maintenance. I even had my husband come with me and get one as part of our "epic date weekend" in April. I am getting my hair recolored, eye brows waxed, my nails done (gel polish) and a pedicure the weekend before my surgery. I figure I should look as good as possible for the "before" pics... plus I prob wont be up for it for several of weeks after.

Best veggies for puréed stage?

I had some steamed cauliflower with a 2 tablespoons of carmelized onions and a pat of butter and it was awesome. Ended up with 1.5 cups or so. -

Any October 2016 Sleevers?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to bkskinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did that. I got my date and it was only 1 week before i had to start pre-op, so we ate as many of my favorite foods as we could fit in. Now i am day 4 pre-op. Me too! -
6 months out... and what I've learned
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to doppelganger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard that many times from anorexics, but never from or about overweight people. What I have heard from many overweight folks is that they are "large-boned." Largely bone-headed, methinks. Anyway, the main thing is that you're doing beautifully well in terms of weight and attitude. While i dont accept "large boned" as an excuse for being overweight, i do think it actually exists. My mom is 5'5 and her wrist is 5.5in. Whether she was 165 or 275. My sister is 5'2 and her wrist is 6.5in. Her weight has been between 135 and 220. My grandmother is 5'0 (maybe less now that she is 82) and her wrist is 6.5in. I am 5'10 and my wrist is 7.25in. Its bven that size at 275 and at 385 (cw) My brother is 5'11, 175lbs and wrist is 7.5in. We are all genetically related but have very different weights, heights and measurements. That leads me to believe that skeletal frame size can vary, otherwise our ratios would be a lot more similar. -
Why did you choose bypass?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to jdk524's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I chose the sleeve (still pre-op) because I was worried about malabsorbtion. I have seen some really bad examples, like near total hairloss. I also already have dumping syndrome (thou not exactly the same) as a result of my gallbladder removal 10 years ago. I didnt want to "double down" for fears that i migh just need to move into the bathroom. I dont have a huge issue with acid reflux, just a mild hetial hernia that the surgeon is going to fix while i am under. My great aunt has a RNY (granted a long time ago) and she has had horrible issues for many years. She is a nurse and still highly recommends WLS, but i am still kinda freaked out. I am a diabetic, but it is generally well controlled and even when i wasnt taken my metformin my a1c was low 6 or better. I also have a high threshold/tolerence for pain meds. Example, taking 3200mg of motrin vs average person taking 800mg for same amount of pain management. I have carpal tunnel in both wrists, tendonitis (for 2 years) in both elbows and arthritis in both knees, so having the abiltity to take nsaids is important. -
Im female (obviously) but my husband is getting sleeved in about 6 weeks, which is why I was reading this thread. That and we are both ~385. I am getting sleeved in 10 days. VDB, you mentioned edema and that it is gone now. Can i ask what kind/symptoms? I have had idiopathic peripheral edema for almost 10 years now. The hydroclorathiacide originally used to treat it gave me gout. I have also maxed out the dosage of furosimide with no real relief. I cant even wear real shoes (only stretchy sandals) due to the swelling. I guess i am hoping you had similar issues and it was resolved with WLS.

Who Are You?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to illgeturhairdid's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My name is Tamalyn. Queen of the Tamazons is a jokey nickname given to me by my sister. She says I stole her inches (she is 5'2 and I'm 5'10). I am 36 years old. I have been heavy all my life, but this is by far my heaviest at 385. My goal weight is around 180, but that is based on how i feel and not a set number. I am recently married. My husband and I got married on 10/31/15. We have been together 7 years, living together for 6. Weight has been an issue for both of us for several years. We actually met through Medifast. We are both getting sleeved, me on 10/5 and his following a month or so later depending on ins approval. We started this process together 18 months ago. We have three dogs who are our children, not in the creepy obsessed person way but in the we are planning to be childless way. Kodi, an akita pit bull, is 7 years old. Midget, a 120lbs (!!!) german shepard, is 5 years old. Our baby girl, Bebe, is a border collie golden retreiver and 3 years old. I am in the process of getting my degree in early childhood education with the goal of teaching. I currently work for a solar company as the accounts payable department. I really like my job, and my coworker are like family... cranky family but awesome. I love movies. Comedies, rom or otherwise, are my favorite. I am a huge fan of tv procedurals and murder porn (south park reference) as well as scifi and comedies. I love to craft. I paint, crochet, bead, can, and bake. I am a halfway decent cook, mostly because i know how to read directions. I am an avid reader, particularly of romance novels and "womens fiction". Thats it for now. 64oz of liquid is making itself known. Lol -

QueenOfTheTamazons replied to m2longenbach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A dr told me that if its for medical reasons, theaters cannot refuse to allow you to bring in outside food and drink. Obviously, you cant really get away with "medically ness mcdonalds" but i never have problem carrying in a 1ltr bottle of water. -

Complex sleep apnea
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a bipap asv. It has a min setting (i think 13) but it ramps up to 25, dropping back down to the min when ut detects the pressure of my exhale. During my sleep study my o2 levels dropped to 68% and even with treatment my o2 levels were 86% so they added an o2 concentrator. The awesome outcome is no more apneas, but I dont expect to be machine free. Both my parents have sleep apnea as well -
My surgery is Weds 10/5. I am taking off 10/4 (for travel and pre op) - 10/9. The next week i am going to work part time. Ill let you know it works out.

October sleevers?

Im a 10/fiver too! Good luck! -
Write up a letter describing your attempts at weight loss, how the weight effects you physically and emotionally, family history of co-morbidities etc. It helped me get my approval pushed through... it cant hurt. I would write it now and check with dr to see if they would send it with the official package. Why waste the time? It might take weeks for them to re-review your case. The appeal process is different for each company. Go through the entire list of bariatric comorbidities. There are more than the commonly used ones. You might have a couple of the "second tier" issues. I also talked about my family history, specifically things that are weight related. I described medical issues that were not comorbidities but that were effected by weight, such as the tendonitis in my elbows ive had for 2 years or how the combination of my osteoarthritis and edema in my feet make it almost impossible to exercise enough. Equal parts sob story and medical facts.

Do you use all three is the sleeve package or just the multi? I like the idea of the convience but $120 a month is expensive (husband will need too)
