What to take before surgery?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to BrooklynMomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldnt take anything that was hiven to you or expressly approve by your dr. They give you a cocktail of meds before and during the surgery. There is a risk of negative interactions. -

QueenOfTheTamazons replied to dawson62704's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Ive been dreaming of food for the past two weeks! And im not even post-op. It doesnt help that im in my home town for surgery and one of my favorite food joints (king eggroll) is half a mile away. Its torture... esp since i am on clear liquids only for surgery tomorrow. -

Jealous friends?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to staceface's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people i have told have been suportive. My sister too... though that may change as i lose weight. She is the skinnier sister, but i am generally considered more attractive... even fat. There might be some snarkiness if i end up skinny and pretty. -

QueenOfTheTamazons replied to charley27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A lot of people in my area post to the facebook groups and just have people come over... kinda like a garage sale. The post a few pics and price ranges and have an open period or make appointments. One woman sold over 100 pieces that way. -

Sleep study
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to mochamommy727's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just because you dont snore much doesnt mean you dont have sleep apnea. I would only snore when sick, but i took one of those self diagnostic quizes and scored fairly high. I asked my pcp at my next visit and she ordered a sleep study. During my study i dtopped breathing 50+ times an hour and my o2 stat dropped as low as 68%. Its possible you could have central or complex sleep apnea instead of obstructive -

Or they feel like they dont deserve better. -
Sleep apnea and high blood pressure are two of the commonly accepted comorbidities. Assuming your egd, cardiac and phych clearence come back ok, i would assume you would be approved. You should check with your insurance co to see what the requirements are.

Confused about sleeve stretching
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to Spectra13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I knew a woman who had a rny at 500lbs. When i knew her she was 350lb but gaining because she would eat things like 3 shots of espresso in an iced venti glass then fill it full of half and half at the milk bar.... or spoon fulls of peanut butter... or powersized jamba juices. Stuff that was very high calorie but that slid thru her pouch without making her feel full. -
New size/new clothes
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to ppressey24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had gwinne bee on two occations. They have some cute stuff but imho you have to pay a ridiculous amount to have variety. I tried the 3 at a time the first go round and i spent more time waiting for pieces to show up than actually wearing. I tried 5 at a time this time last year as i was looking for stuff to wear around vegas for my wedding weekend. I ended up buying one if the dresses. -

Drinking alcohol
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to fayezabaza's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people dont recommend alcohol because your tolerance is low after the surgery. Three glasses is a lot of an average person. I think the main issue is that 3 glasses is going to be between 350 and 900 calories, which is most if not all of your calories for the day 10 weeks out. It also takes away from your ability to get in enough protein and water. Alchol also dehydrates you. -
Approval with low bmi and no comorbidities?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to TJ1257's topic in Insurance & Financing
Arthritis is considered a comorbidity. Do you experience folliclitis? Those painful pimple like sores that tend to happen where skin meets skin, under the breast and in skin folds? Thats considered a soft tissue infection and is a comorbidity. Even if your arthritis and ssti's are mild it might count. If you have ins and get folliculitis, go to the dr to get it treated (most people deal with it at home) so it can be in your chart. If you have any follicililitis scars, point them out to the dr to prove its an ongoing issue. http://www.obesitycoverage.com/insurance-and-costs/pre-approval-process/comorbidities http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1830144-overview -
Approval with low bmi and no comorbidities?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to TJ1257's topic in Insurance & Financing
Insurance does what it can to get out of paying. I started this process a year-and-a-half ago with a clinic in Chico. But that clinic had a $2,500 lifestyle management fee (total of $5000 for hubby and myself). I started the process anyway, hoping that we could find financing during that time. We weren't able to but I did find a doctor 3 hours away that accepted Medical and only had a $300 fee. That doctor said we could continue to do all of our preop with the doctor in Chico and we would switch prior to surgery. One problem, we were Anthem Blue Cross Medical and they only took pure medical because of issues with approvals. We were told that we could switch to pure medical close to the surgery date so that it would be paid for. Turns out if you've been Medical for more than 90 days they won't let you switch from Anthem Blue Cross to pure Medi-Cal. We fought to be switched for almost 3 months. During this time I was also trying to get my medical records released to the new surgeon and the old surgeon was doing everything they could not to. It took over half-a-dozen request and 2 months to get the medical records. After we figured out that there was no hope and switching to Pure medical my surgeon started working with Anthem Blue Cross to try to get me approved. They denied me right off the bat saying it was not medically necessary. What is complete bull considering I have a BMI 54 and 5 Comorbidities. Then they said that I hadn't completed the 6 months of a doctor supervised diet. I had done that with my primary care because the doctor in Chico was an 55 miles away. That dr allowed me to do those diet visits with my primary care. Apparently she had not been specific enough in her chart notes stating that we had talked about diet exercise and Portion Control in every appointment. Frustrated beyond all belief and in tears I force my way into talking to a supervisor in the approvals Department. I convinced them to let me submit a letter from my doctor saying that I had done all the requirements. That was also when I wrote my letter saying all of the family history the current issues ETC. This was all in June. My health insurance was set to expire end of July so I was kind of freaking out because I didn't think I was going to get renewed with medical. They finally approved me August 5th , 5 days after my insurance expired , when I thought I had no more health insurance. I was finally able to reapply in September , only to find out that my health insurance was renewed in June and nobody bothered to tell me. So I could have had my surgery like 2 weeks after it was approved back in August which is frustrating. But at least I have my surgery date and it's in 4 days. -
Protein - alternative supplements
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to rolosmom7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have tried the strawberry. Its a little to artificial for me. It tastes like capn crunch crunch berries, if you have had that before. Plus its like 220 cals for 13 grams of protein, which is a bit high. If you throw in some GENEPRO, which does alter the flavor a bit negatively, it becomes 43 grams of protein and 277 cals. The drink powder itself only has 5g of protein and 27 grams of carbs. Your actually better off having 2 glasses of milk. -
BIRTH CONTROL POST!
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to The Starving Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im suprised they did it that young. I had a 26yr old coworker who was allergic to latex and for some reason i cant remember now couldnt use bc. The drs and ins would not tie her tubes ubtil she was 30, even though she had a 10yr ols and a 3yr old. She basically used abortions as her birth control. -
Surgery was yesterday!
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to KatB5331's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said i could go back to work the next week if i wanted, just to listen to my body's cues and rest if i need to. I am going to do 4 hours a day for the first week back, full time the second week. Lucky for me i only work 0.5 miles from my house. -
I had to have my gallbladder in an emergency situation. Gall stones were blocking my pancreas and causing acute pancreatitis. I was in sugery within 3 hours of being admitted. If they can do a twofer that would be awesome.

Designated survivor is pretty good so far. American horror story is interesting with a reality show/reenactment theme.
