Out of Pocket Copay Disappointment
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to President_Kynnedy's topic in Insurance & Financing
No. Fully fledge well regarded doctor. I just did the leg work of finding a doctor that woukd take medical rather than accept the dictor assigned to me by location. If you are within a couple of hours of northern CA, i suggest Lifetime Surgical and Dr. Richard Nguyen. His staff is awesome and his fee is only $300. That includes the bariatric food packets for the two week pre op diet. -
Upset today and I don't know what to do.

I was denied as being not medically necessary when i had a bmi of 55, sleep apnea, diabetes, arthritis and high cholestrol. Obviously it was medically necessary. I think most insurances need to deny first. When we argued they said it was because i had not completed my 6 months of medically supervised diets. I called and called the approval department, submitted a letter from my pcp and one i wrote describing my diet history and family history of disease. Since i figure the insurance would pull the same thing with my husband, we preemtively wrote a similar letter and got the pcp to write one for him as well. My husband's insurance was denied as well, saying that he didnt have a cardiac clearance. Push back. Find out why and prove them wrong. -
How far post op are you? Or are you pre op? I was 5 days post op. It wasnt the best descision, but i was tired of everything i ate sitting so painfully in my chest. The fatman part of me was justifying it as similar to milk and the sugar not mattering because i was barely getting anything down. The realization that i could no longer resort to previous comfort measures, the first proof that my tastes had changed and that i had done this to myself, therefore could not blame an outside source or use an outside source for comfort, caused the melt down.

What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Fyi - You might want to get uric acid levels checked if you have used hydroclorothiazide long term. I ended up with gout after using it for several years to treat idiopathic periphreal edema. -
There is a good chance that you wouldnt even enjoy it. I was having a hard time with pain and pressure in my throat and chest. I just wanted something soothing and cold. I ordered vanila ice cream from mcdonalds and took two bites. I was so upset to find out that it tasted disgusting to me that i had a mini melt down.

My original surgeon had a $2500 lifestyle management fee that had to be paid in full before they would schedule the surgery. Luckily i was able to find a surgeon not much farther away that accepts my insurance and had much more reasonable fees. -

I think cravings are mostly our fatman (the term my hubby and i use for the part of our brain thst wants bad stuff cause it tastes good). My 3rd day post op and i was fantasizing about sucking on one of husbands french fries, judt for the taste. Yesterday i had two bite of mcdonalds ice cream and i found it disgusting. My farman was so upset i cried. I am sure it was because i had to truly face, for the first time, what i had done to myself in the name of health and i wasnt quite ready for the emotions attached. You will get to the point that you can tell the farman to shut up, brocolli is just as tasty as french fries. Lol -
I understand regret now...
QueenOfTheTamazons posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been on this board for several weeks. I have seen several posts about regret and I didnt really understand it. I struggled to get approval and pushed so hard to get the surgery that I didnt understand how you can regret this life saving surgery. Right after the surgery I didnt understand it. Other than thirst, i felt fine. Day 2 was good as well. A little achy but I thought i was going to sail through it. Day three had profound nausea, which almost kept me in the hospital another day. It took three different types of anti nausea meds to get it under control. Day four and i felt like someone was pressing on my chest every time i had more than 2 sips. It feels like there is something stuck in my throat. I was only able to get 16 oz down. I ended up calling the on call surgeon to make sure that i was ok. Day five and i am still thirsty. I cant get enough liquid down to stop the dry mouth. The pressure is so painful. Ive tried many different items trying to find something my stomach can handle. We stopped by mcdonalds for food for my husband. I ordered vanila ice cream, i just wanted something soothing that would slip past the knot in my throat. I took two bites... and i hated it. It tasted disgusting. But that didnt stop me from crying. Something i shouldnt even want and didnt even need was no longer an option and i was unreasonably upset. I understand regret now. All of these issues combining undermine the descision you made. Do i regret it? Now, yes. Tomorrow, no. I know i can get through it but for all of my research i didnt know how really hard it would be. -

Sleeved with no major pain
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spoke too soon. Day 1 and 2 were ok. I had little pain and less discomfort in specific positions. Day 3 (discharge day) had extreme nausea that included 2 doses of zofran and something much stronger that gave me waking dreams or haluci ations. Didnt get discharged until after 5pm, which meant we had to wait around for another 2 hours gor the traffic to clear. That and there is/was no pharmavy available to fill my meds script. Going on 21 hours with no pain meds and it sucks. I can get down 2 maybe 3 sips before i get the pressure in my chest that i belueve indicates im full. -
My preop is tomorrow and my surgery on weds. At least a dozen people have asked if I'm scared, nervous, or excited. Frankly I'm none of the above. I'm not even ambivalent. I'm glad to be getting surgery because I know I need to make serious changes for my health but I'm not feeling particularly anything. Anybody else feel this way?

Sleeved with no major pain
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think most of the no pain was from the morphine on demand. I am having pain during cerain movements no that i stopped the morphine. I have s high rolerance for pain meds but not for psin. I am taking liquid vicoden now but only when i really need it. Still no shoulder or gas pains. Sorry about typos. Drugs plus not a lot of sleep maked for "fat fingers" -
Underage (17) and Bariatrics?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to fumplins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you have dieted before, write up a time line with dates, program type and outcomes. I submited that to my ins and it was instramental in my approval -
We also got married on Halloween. Our first anniversery is this year. We had a gothic themed chapel and a zombie elvis as the officiant. The plan was to do a zombie crawl in Reno on 10/22 and maybe go to sac for a nice dinner... but thats kinda out the window since im getting sleeved today. But i am totally going to rock a sexy costume next year... or maybe a zombie 50's housewife dragging around a tray of Cookies. Lol

Sore shoulder...leak?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to ange1381's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The bariatric nurse I spoke to yesterday says that gas pains are felt in the left shoulder from redirected pain. That there isn't anything you can take for that left shoulder pain because it's not really pain. does that makes sense? Could that be it? -
GenePro GEN2 - is anyone using it?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to chuswysly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use it in yougurt, jello and protein shakes. There is a bit of a spell but nothing that can't be ignored. I also find that there is a little bit of a taste but if that's a problem for you you can always start with half a scoop. I don't notice the taste at half a scoop. It works really well in yogurt. -
Two tickets on plane?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to Chloewithac's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
We flew Southwest to Las Vegas for our wedding this time last year, both of us at least 375. We were told that if the flight was near full and if we overflowed into the other seat we would have to purchase an additional ticket. We were given the option of buying the tickets then or waiting and trying the seatbelts. We opted to try the seat belt and we're able to make it work with an extender. Technically I was not able to latch the seat belt but I tucked it down the side and nobody actually checked . The flight full but we were not required to buy an additional ticket. -

Underage (17) and Bariatrics?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to fumplins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It all depends on your insurance company so that is the first place to start. That being said... If they say 6 months they mean six months. I started my bariatric process with a surgeon who was 1.5 hours away. Because of this i asked to do my preop diet plans with my pcp. I went every month. When it came time for my approval, that 6 months was what held me up. My chart notes did not have the specific verbiage the insurance company was asking for, so they denied me. It took two months of fighting to get an approval. Moral of the story. Do what the insurance says is required... even if you dont like it. There are no short cuts. You need to obey their guidelines to the letter, so they cannot find a reason to deny you. Also, there is a good chance they will not perform the surgery on a minor. You may have to wait and start the process at 18. -
Mine is also tomorrow, at 12:30pm.

I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy and was completely loopy the rest of the day. But when i had my endoscopy for surgery, my aunt picked me up (cause i needed someone), we went to olive garden for food and then she dropped me off at my car and i drove myself 45 miles home. No issues at all... Why the difference? Who knows. Maybe they gave me stronger stuff on the meet in the middle.
