My nutritionist also said that fruits and veggies are such an important part of your bariatric diet. You want to include it so that you train your body to want natural and healthy foods. Fruits should be eaten in moderation. I agree with@JupiterinVirgo that it's obviously better to have over candy and sodas. Watch for seeds-digestive reasons

Did anyone receive a card to order from kid menu?
lalame replied to Rita48's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did before I was released from the hospital. It's not just for food from the kids menu. It can also be used to make requests for 1/2 portions. I haven't used it but keep it with me. I also agree with ordering appetizers. That's what I do. -

It will get better. All you can do is try your best. -

I would recommend not eating baby food meats. Honestly you will probably throw up. If you have the time. Make chicken and purée it in chicken broth. Or strain soup and add chicken and blend it in blender. Tastes like it should unlike the baby food. Sleeved 9/6/16 starting w: 267. Surgery date w. 233. Current w: 163.

8 months out - is this when the depression hits?
lalame replied to ryan_86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try to find someone to speak to as soon as possible. Does your surgery center offer post surgery group sessions? Most do. Also are your labs okay? Sleeved 09/06/16 and I'm just recovering from a bad iron deficiency. I had two infusions. Waiting for lab work to see if I need more. I felt horrible with low iron. Had no motivation to do anything, tired, cranky, fog brain.... now I feel so much better. I hope you feel better soon. Hang in there. -
Let's talk NOT meeting protein goals

Sleeved 9/6/16. I know you don't want to hear about shakes. I stopped drinking them after surgery. They made me nauseous. I did find a recommendation on this app about 7-8 weeks post surgery that suggested genepro. I have been using it ever since. One small scoop is 30 grams of protein. Doesn't taste like anything. Don't put your nose in it. Made me nauseous to smell it in the beginning. Now i don't notice the smell. I mixed it in yogurt, soup, and now in my milk for my decaf latte just to jump start my protein intake. Good luck. -
What happened? Does your surgery center have a support group? Mine offers one every month. Call them.

I find that everyone has a different plan. Follow yours. I have found that that the standard (on this site) is 64 oz of water, 80 grams of protein (give or take a little), and wait 30-45 mins before drinking liquids after a meal. Sleeved 9/6/16 and I can't drink with food. I always did pre-surgery but it makes me sick and full if I do them at the same time.

Sleeved 9/6/16. My incisions were itchy. Then turned to an allergic reaction to the glue. I started off with hydrocortisone but when the reaction hit ( red/ bumpy/ itchy) I was put on a cream with a steroid in it. It went away with that. Good luck. Don't scratch.

@jenejen262 AMAZING GREAT JOB! Anyone have an update on hair growth? Sleeved 9/6/16. 267 start 165 now! I have lost so much hair. It has finally slowed down. It could just be because there isn't much left to lose. Just wondering where September sleevers are with hair loss. I've read from vets that it takes 1-2 yrs to grow back.... -
Someone a while back posted information on Dr. Matthew Weiner. YouTube him. He has a great video clip on hair loss after gastric surgery. really helped.
-
Sleeved 9/6/16. I have lost about 40% of my hair. My hair was fine but I had a lot of it. 7 months post and I don't see as much falling out. Could be because I don't have any left to lose! I take my vitamins, water, and protein. It is a natural process when your body goes into shock from being malnourished for a long period of time. My doctor compared it to pregnancy hair loss after giving birth. Doctor did tell me it would grow back. If you do a search on hair in this forum you will get to read what all of the vets said. It happens, can't prevent it and it will grow back. The vets say it will take anywhere between 1-2 yrs for it to come back. Amazon sells a fiber hair loss filler that I love! Just put a little bit at the top so no one can see the scalp. Good luck.

Mine said no caffeine because it has the potential to cause ulcers.

@Lolly1218, I haven't counted calories since surgery. I try to get 80grams of protein in a day. I eat healthy. Sometimes the 80 is a challenge. I always add a scoop of protein powder to my decaf latte in the morning to get a good start on it. -

@Heather, Running and weight lifting does it. I NEED to lift weights to get my strength back. Pinterest is great for recipies. I did a barbaric eating search and great recipies came up. I made the pizza with ground chicken. Really good! -

It's great to hear that you are motivated and working out! Do you or did you get dizzy from the excersing? That's what happens to me. My Iron is low so that may be the contributing factor. I haven't focused on the calorie intake because I can't stress out over it all. I'm not eating what I was eating before. My main concern is getting my Protein and Water in. I also do a scoop of Protein powder in my latte. You ever watch Dr. Weiner's YouTube videos? He has one video where he talks about food. Very informative. -

@@Hellya sleeved 09/06/16. Water is a challenge for me. It's something that we are always going to have to think about. I have two things that have worked. I a 20oz water container that I fill up 3x's a day or more. Rarely more. I also have about 16 oz of milk a day. It helps me keep track. I also have a 64oz water jug that I leave filled up in the mornings and I take all of my water from it throughout the day to measure how much I need and have had. Helps me not to think about it. Flavor your water with lemon or mint. -

Water intake is hard for me too! I have a 20 ounce bottle that I know I have to drink at least 3 times. I also drink 16 oz of milk. That helps. I don't fill up the water until it's finished. If I do more... great if not at least I met the requirement. I also have a 64 oz water bottle. Sometimes I use that and fill my cup only from it to measure my water intake. I have to have an Iron transfusion soon. Sleeved 09/06/16 lost 85lbs. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
