Help please! So many questions - lots of pain and confusion
Browneyedgirl41 replied to rolosmom7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can relate because I am not that far ahead of you. At 5 days out, I was having serious buyer's remorse. You'll be amazed how much better you feel in a few days, then another few days and then at 2 weeks. I'm still not at 100% but I am 50 times better than I was at day 5. Hang in there! -
I get hungry, both head hunger and real hunger.

September Sleevers!

^^^ I meant TWO weeks out, not 12. Freudian slip! Sorry! -
September Sleevers!

12 weeks out here. Feeling better everyday. Soup again tonight for dinner. *sigh* I keep telling myself this liquid diet is only temporary. I guess I never realized how used to stuffing my face without giving it a second thought I had gotten. Food addiction is a very real thing. -
They were on my list of acceptable foods for full liquids but, yes, so much sugar so I stayed away.

Are you sure we can go this long without food?
Browneyedgirl41 replied to even11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that same thought but then I remembered all my "reserves". As long as you are staying hydrated, you'll be fine. -
I only needed to tell a few people I was having surgery besides my immediate family who knew the truth. I did have a hiatal hernia repair in conjunction with WLS so that is what I told my son's teacher (in case homework was not done properly because my husband was taking over lol). Turns out I really should give my husband lots of credit because our son didn't skip a beat). WLS is nothing to be ashamed of but it's also no one else's business but my own.

I had nausea too, but no vomitting. I called my surgeon's office and they called in a different nausea Med for me- transdermal Scop patches that you place behind your left ear. Worked really well for me. I hope you feel better soon.

Getting sleeved in 3 days
Browneyedgirl41 replied to HopefulInVirginia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Last night I wrote you a long reply and somehow it poof disappeared. I'm 2 weeks out and I feel pretty good. However, the first 3-4 days are the worst- discomfort, hunger (whether it's in your head or actual hunger), the crappy liquid diet, and nausea. Some people have no pain. I needed my pain meds. Some have no nausea. I needed my nausea meds. Just remember that it's temporary and with every new day, you will feel better! Follow your dr's diet instructions. Not doing so could result in serious complications. It's not exactly a day at the beach but you'll get through it and you'll be so glad when you are a week out and the 2,3,4 and so on. Good luck! -

I like to cook and kinda hate prefab food
Browneyedgirl41 replied to Havasumoma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, besides being a disaster in the kitchen, I was never a fan of broths or soups anyway (unless we're talking corn or clam chowder!), but if it's your thing, go for it. The post op liquid duet sucks so you might as well be eating the tastiest broth possible. -
How have your taste buds changed?
Browneyedgirl41 replied to Leather'nLace's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will get back to you on this when I can finally eat. Still on full liquids, but I can't wait to give my taste buds a good go! -
Is it true what I hear ?
Browneyedgirl41 replied to bellabeans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still on full liquids but I have heard the same as you- that you don't really feel the restriction until solids. We'll find out soon enough! -
Oh girl do not let anyone make you feel ashamed! I used to weigh 100 lbs less (on my wedding day before I yet to deal with REAL life) and you know what? LIFE HAPPENS. Adult stress- jobs, money, marriage, kids- they are often reasons we turn to food for comfort. I always take a look around where ever I go and I see people just like me and I automatically know we're all in the same boat and it's easy to get here. Anyone who says otherwise can come and talk to me! Good luck to you! XOXO

Tomorrow it will officially be 2 weeks from my gastric sleeve surgery. Saw my surgeon today. Since my initial meeting with him earlier in the summer (June), I was 224 lbs. I am now 209. I didn't lose a whole lot during the pre op diet as he was not super strict about it like he is with the post op diet. Still on full liquids. BP was low, 96 over something (can't remember), probably because I am not getting all my fluids in. It was an outpatient procedure so I asked why I never had a swallow test to see if there were leaks. He said I did, but I was asleep. Knock on wood, he's never had any leaks. That was good to hear. Another week of full liquids until I graduate to puréed foods. I feel pretty good. Less depressed than I was this past weekend. I helped my 9 year old with his homework and scooted out of the kitchen when my husband served him a bowl of Pasta for dinner. That's about it. I still feel low on energy. Hope everyone is doing well and had a good day.

Umm, how do you tell your daughter she might need this?
Browneyedgirl41 replied to OKCPirate's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
One day my dad just brought it up when we were on the subject of my weight while eating a delicious dinner out! At first I was taken a back. I thought to myself- am I that "big" that I need it? Then I thought- I am going to look into it. Plus he said he woukd pay for it! At 200 lbs, from a girl who had always been always at 120-130 lbs, he was concerned for my health and wanted me to lbs healthy and louvd to be around, not only for him and my mom but my little boy as well. He also knew I was not unhappy that my weight was a big party of that. I was not offended. I was 39 and way past being sensitive about my weight. I think at 24, I would have been more sensitive. Handle it with kid gloves. Gosh, at age 24, I had so much fun post college, dating and traveling amd honestly, your 20's are often the best you'll ever look. I'd hate to see her miss out on all that. -
NSV: Massage
Browneyedgirl41 replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yay! The last time I has a massage, the well meaning massage therapist tried to sell me all these products to help eliminate Water weight. She weighed 99 lbs soaking wet. What did I expect? I look forward to having another massage down the road one of these days. -
Explaining surgery to kids?
Browneyedgirl41 replied to katie09/21/2016's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
At first I told my 9 year old son I was going in for a hernia repair (which I was) bad I explained what hiatal hernia was and we looked up diagrams online. The main thing he wanted to know is if my surgery could be "fatal" (that was a recent vocabulary work in school). I told him it was a simple procedure, no need to worry, it was outpatient, and mom would see him after school. Now that 2 weeks have gone by and he sees I do not eat like I used to or with him and his dad, I think he realizes I did something to help me become less "fluffy". Now he loves my fluffy belly but I told him it was healthier for me to get rid of some of the fluff. He has been so gentle by not jumping on me the last few weeks, he asked to see my incisions, which are healing very nicely, and all in all, seems ok with everything. No disruptions at school, behavioral or academic. Life goes on. -
Beating yourself up nutritionally speaking
Browneyedgirl41 replied to LisaMergs's topic in Food and Nutrition
That's so true about VS. At Sima employees get an hourly wage plus commission over a certain amount of a single sale which should mean they will be attentive and keep bringing you things to try on. They have sleepwear, intimates, loungewear and yoga wear. They will also measure you so you buy the correct bra size. I'm just over 40 (in age) now too so I sometimes feel like VS is a tad immature for me. -

I ❤️ Soma. All my pjs and delicates are from there. For birthdays and holidays and anniversaries, I just send my husband the link and size of what I want or I just bypass him entirely and by it myself lol! -
Concerned friends ... Do you really want to do this?
Browneyedgirl41 replied to Lori1432's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My dad was freaked out. He wanted to go to my first surgeon consultation and I had to pull the car over on the highway because he got sick to his stomach! He was just nervous and worried. Plus, my 9 year old son is my parents' only grandchildren and my dad kept saying, "Thr kid isn't the kid without you." I have a husband who is a good dad to our son, but I know what he means. -
I'm nearly 2 weeks out and have similar feelings. I keep telling myself that this is only temporary (even if it does last longer than the 4 weeks I originally anticipated.) I also keep reminding myself of all the times I felt so miserable and out of control before I had the sleeve and how making both a physical and mental change will take me away from that out of control feeling. Trust me, I get it. I've cried. I've mourned. I've hoped to be able to return to some normalcy someday. Just know you're not alone.

Ricotta bake is considered ok for the puree stage. You made my night! My surgery was 8/29. I'm not far off at 9/6! Wow!

Long Luscious Locks
Browneyedgirl41 replied to jenrae1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You look great! My hair is nice too. If I start losing it I will be sad. I remember losing a lot about 6 months post partum, but it all came back. I hope that's the same for this.
