Band Fail to Sleeve fail. :(

thank you so much Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App They don't have "sizes" of sleeves. It's all in relation to your body. The surgeon works with the anesthesiologist to pass a small tube into your tummy, and that is what sizes your sleeve. The surgeon staples as close as possible to the tube. I'd go to a reputable gastric surgeon. I can't believe a pediatrician did this at such a young age. Please consult a bariatric expert. Best of luck! thanks for the advice! will make an appointment for monday. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Good. ❤????

The first surgeon I considered told me a story about a man who ate bar-b-q soon after surgery. He ended up with a leak. The surgeon I decided to use has a support group run but a nurse that works with him. She has been working with bariatric surgeons for 3 years, during that time she has only seen 1 leak, and it was also someone who ate solid food before they were supposed to. A leak can kill you. Many people are hospitalized for weeks after a leak, more surgery, etc. I am pre-op but I can tell you those stories scared me to death!! Ditto. Scares me to not even take 1 bite before it's time!

Thanks I was thinking about letting some ginger ale go flat? Maybe I'll search that on here and see what I can find.

    Still Sick

I read through this searching for answers. I've posted about being sick a lot, I'm 8 days post op and thinking of going in for fluids. I get in 1 Protein shake, a bit of Water, and maybe 16oz Powerade zero. My consumption hasn't gone up, it's actually getting worse. Was the ER able to help you?
  8. LOL. I lost 102 lbs in the first 4 months. But just for the record, I did it being 99.99% compliant with my doctors instructions (ok, so I did have a couple of potatoes chips once or twice). I wouldn't consider it a "prisoner of war" diet. But your comment did make me laugh. You are a MAN though. You guys wake up from surgery down 30lbs and feeling great! Yeah. #$*%^& men!
  9. I was also a bit confused on the "drama" .... I thought we were cracking jokes about fries??? I need some reality checks and laughs to get through this. [emoji173]

Contemplating a turkey pureed burger now - can't think of any way it'd be edible. I go to mushys next week. Hmm. I'm wondering - maybe some ground turkey with a tish of thousand island dressing? could be reminiscent of a big mac?? LOL I might give it a try!@@Christinamo7 has a recipe like that - not sure for what stage.I do modify a recipe online for a "Big Mac Salad" I use my ground sirloin/ground turkey breast blend, heat some up and melt cheddar on it. I put a very small amount of shredded romaine lettuce in my wee bowl, then add the meat/cheese and top it with a few drops of thousand island dressing, one green onion chopped up and one pickle chopped up and add some sesame seeds. really hits the spot there is no reason you couldn't use all ground beef or all ground turkey depending on your personal preference. for my plan I was allowed all this after 4 weeks. Awesome. I've never loved big macs, but will definitely modify this in a few months when I can and am craving a burger!

  15. Just keep doing your program. I'm sure you went with a successful surgeon. From what I've noticed, my surgeon is stricter than most, but only 1 failed outcome. His entire staff is former wls patients except my nut. The nurse, the nurse assistant, the PA, the psych eval therapist. All went through wls. So, I trust he's learned and this is the best plan. I don't get on the scale outside of appointments. I'm personally focusing on getting in enough liquid, then protein. Everyone's focus should be different, all of our bodies are different. And 60+ pounds is awesome!!! Keep on keepin on
  16. I agree - I needed the kick in the ass for another protein shake. I ask advice for help and other experiences, not coddling. I can call my Mommy for that (but that'd get me an ass whopping over the phone haha!)
  17. Yeah, that's true. No 2 plans are alike. That is a definite fact I've noticed.
  18. While my husband is not an asshat and is very encouraging and supportive of my decision to have WLS, his level of support ends at the dinner table, and actually even before that. He still comes home from work and immediately pours himself a glass of wine, he eats whatever he wants in front of me, and at less than 1 month out, he held up a bottle of wine and asked me if I was ready to have some. I also have three family members who have all had WLS before me. While they have given me great advice about what to expect and what medications to have on hand (Gas-X, Miralax) their food choices are poor and the example they set is less than stellar. My surgery was a line item exception on my insurance, so I had to self-pay and was not required to take any classes or participate in any pre-surgery diet. At my 2 week follow-up appt, my surgeon switched me from liquids to solid foods. When I asked him a specific question about food choices, he told me I was overthinking it. While I agree with the initial rant and understand the frustration that caused it, many of us are on here because we literally do not have the support or knowledge necessary to make the best decisions. I am still learning and will listen and take advice. I may sometimes be offended by the tone, but I get over it, take what I need to from it and move on, hopefully better for the knowledge. Thank you to the veterans who are so generous with their time and knowledge, and please be patient with those of us who are stumbling through this and asking you to help guide us (or sometimes pick us up)! Agreed. There were some comments to me 2 or 3 days out of surgery when I asked about not feeling well and it was "get your protein!!" I was a little upset at the tone, obviously I'm trying and drinking Protein shakes, not Coke. But in the end, it's true. I need more protein. Tough love
  19. Well if you want to rant about WLS patients making really bad choices, you aren't going to rant about it on a makeup forum. This is the Rants and Raves section on a WLS forum so that is what it is going to be about. You knew this was going to be a post about something you didn't want to read again, but you popped your ass in here and commented yet again. You are as much of a problem as the problem you are complaining about. @@rolosmom7 You are very lucky, most people don't have that kind of family support and are married to asshats. Yes I am very lucky. I have an amazing husband. I'm thankful every day.
  20. It frustrates me to no end, I followed my preop diet perfectly. Went off my celebrex, did all the shakes and broth/soup. Have not cheated at all post op (I'm human so I'm sure that will change at some point). And I am having a horrible time of things! But these people eating tacos and pork chops and God knows what else are fine! Talk about frustrating!!!! My husband has even committed enough that he eats his meals at work so not to tempt me. He has his popsicle for dessert at home (his are fudgesicles though) and on the weekend sticks to food I don't like. Our family went to therapy together to make sure our whole household was ready. It was a lot of work. But here are some folks, willy nilly doing whatever. Ughhhhhhh!

    Why am I pooping?

I did hear that, was hoping not to experience it though! Our bodies are weird & wonderful. Right now mines just weird. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Don't worry, I did it too 6 days post op. Then I saw Al Rokers story where he did it at the white house and felt better!

    Sleeve "reset"?

Hmm. Interesting. I got Lactaid brand milk, didn't even think about dairy being in pudding. Maybe when I try again in a few days I'll make it from a box with lactaid milk. Thanks!
  24. So I'm curious after you get sick, how long before you feel ok again? I'm 1 week out - last night I had pudding for the 1st time, I'm thinking I ate too much because the nausea and diarrhea was horrible. It was sugarfree, and I ate it with a baby spoon, over about 30 minutes. I still feel sick, 18 hours later. Is there a typical reset time? I need to eat and have a shake, but feel so sick I don't want to. I have taken zofran for nausea last night and this morning.
