  1. I have had food cravings too. My dietitian allowed me to have a salad with no fat dressing at lunch time and steamed vegetables at dinner time (no carbs e.g. Potato). I can also have no sugar ice blocks and jelly. This gave me the sweet taste which helped to kerb my cravings. Diet soft drinks are also okay too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Why all the judgement

I read this information and wonder why people are choosing to eat fried food too. I guess everybody is different. I am pre op and my gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled on the 21st October. I have completed 15 days out of my 21 day pre op diet without any issues. I have learnt something about myself which is that I am strong. I feel very motivated to change my lifestyle. I realise that I have used my weight as a way of hiding due to past issues. The sleeve will not make that go away. It is going to be a tool to keep me on track but I still have to work on my other demons that have previously caused me to quit previous diets. Life isn't going to be easy, it is going to change. Optifast liquid diet?

No judgement here. Optifast is tough. I've just done 2 weeks and have 1 week to go. My surgery date is 21st October. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Diabetics

I'm diabetic but mine is much better since I started the pre op diet. I've lost about 20 pounds in the last 2 weeks. Almost off my insulin. I have had to monitor my blood levels and titrate my insulin accordingly. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I don't have a carp but I have a reef shark. I was in New Caledonia on a cruise where the islanders were trying to encourage us to swim there with this!! I told them that they were crazy as one of these attacked a swimmer a couple of weeks ago in the same location. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  9. When I saw my surgeon, he asked me about what weight i wanted to be. I told him that as I've always been overweight, I didn't know as I can't imagine what I will look like in a 'normal' weight range. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  14. I too am a nurse. If I had the chance to have the surgery at your age I would have jumped at it. I now have high blood pressure and diabetes. If I leave it much longer I will develop heart problems. I'm scheduled for sleeve surgery on the 21st October. I can't wait. As for my surgery, I live in Australia and our health system is quite different. I saw my surgeon, set my date and had my tests done before I told my family. My brother practically needed a Valium to tell him. My mum is finally coming around but this is due to the fact that I help her with household tasks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Incision scars !

You can also try Vitamin E gel capsules. Snip the capsule and squeeze the oil out and apply it to healed scars. It's a bit early. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Noisy co workers

I don't personally think that it is harmful to tell your boss about the surgery. I'm booked to have gastric sleeve surgery in 3 weeks. I have taken 3 weeks annual leave to recover. I felt that it was important for my boss to know in case I needed additional time off work. Also to attend follow up appointments. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    New here and wanting advice.

Hi Doogman87, welcome. I'm 43 and live in Sydney Australia. I'm scheduled for Gastric Sleeve surgery on the 21st October. I can't wait. I have weighed up my options. I've seen my brother have a miserable time with his gastric band cause it makes him vomit. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What's the skinny on coffee?

Caffeine is a diuretic. When we are supposed to be preventing dehydration both pre and post op, we don't necessarily need to be drinking anything with caffeine to make us dehydrated. From what I have seen here, people are battling to drink enough Water already. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  25. You are perfectly normal. Think of it like stage fright. You prepare and practice. You are now on the stage wings ready to walk on. You know you have confidence with your surgeon. It's just last minute jitters. For the rest of us waiting for our surgery, we will all feel the same way. Let us know how you go. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
