Hi all, I live in Sydney and my surgery date is 21st October. My pre-op Optifast diet starts this Friday. I'm 43 and I weigh 139kg so I have to lose pretty much half of my body weight. I can't wait to start my transformation. I have already lost 40kg to get to this point. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Drinking around meals?
shoodle72 replied to christinah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that patients having sleeve surgery should not drink for 30 minutes pre and post meals. Apparently it pushes the food down too quickly and stops nutrients from being absorbed and also can cause the sleeve to stretch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Any October 2016 Sleevers?

Cheated on Pre Op Diet
shoodle72 replied to mrstkgreene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first thing to changing something is to admit that there is a problem. For all of those critics, this person has been brace enough to reach out and admit that they have had a problem adhering to their pre-op diet. One slip up is not going to be fatal. It will slow down ketosis which helps with weight loss... yes I understand that but starting directly back on the pre-op diet the next day will recorrect over the next couple of days. Mrstkgreene, you will be fine. I am pre-op too and I carry the same anxieties about this surgery too. It is a big step to take. We have to learn to eat again post op but I have to just focus on my ultimate outcome of a thinner and healthier me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I THOUGHT I was sleeved...

If you are concerned, get a chest and abdominal X-ray which will confirm the type of surgery that has been done. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App If you need evidence especially if you intend to take legal action, you will need to have radiological proof anyway. I've heard that they are both good surgeons. Good luck to you both. I've with Dr Ali Zarrouk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Help... I really need to poop

Help... I really need to poop
shoodle72 replied to blu2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try the Lactulose syrup on its own then. It is sweet. I was extremely nauseated when I had a spinal surgery through my abdomen and was nil by mouth for the week prior to surgery. I managed to tolerate it well and I managed to go to the loo within 2 hours without straining. Sorry to be graphic. I hope this helps. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Wow. You're home within 24 hours. My surgeon told me that I would spend 2-3 nights in hospital to make sure that I don't get dehydrated, make sure that my pain was controlled and my blood sugars were stable. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Help... I really need to poop
shoodle72 replied to blu2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No it's not really. Agarol comes in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavours and it doesn't really take away the flavour. The Actilax tastes like toffee. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

shoodle72 replied to blu2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try Actilax or Lactulose syrup. It is a sticky liquid laxative and helped me greatly after spinal fusion surgery. I swear by it. In my work as a nurse, we also do a Coloxyl milk shake which consists of crushing 2xColoxyl with senna tablets, add 30ml Lactulose syrup and 20ml of Agarol syrup. Add 50ml of milk and mix together. Works a treat!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
As long as you are just cold and don't have a fever, it is likely to be related to your metabolism and your body adjusting to the dramatic weight loss plus the reduction in fuel to burn to keep you warm. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Gallbladder Removal during VSG
shoodle72 replied to ozbigman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon is based in Sydney and said that he didn't want to remove my gallbladder at the same time as the sleeve surgery as it only opens me up to developing complications. I have no gallstones so I'm lucky. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Negative comments - not "fat enough"?
shoodle72 replied to Jim Paulette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally understand your point of view. I understand that you have tried numerous diets in the past as have I. The decision to have a major operation such as this shouldn't be taken lightly and I am sure that we wouldn't be putting ourselves through this operation unless we have exhausted every other avenue. I hope all goes well for you Jim Paulette. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Out flanked and assaulted. . .
shoodle72 replied to siera63's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the references to your fur babies. I only have one concern post op. My Shih-Poo has a sense of entitlement combined with "I will get you back for leaving me". She pees on my bed when I don't come home. I spent a week in hospital for a spinal fusion and at 1am on the day that I came home, well you can guess what happened. Her cute little face is very deceiving!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Any October 2016 Sleevers?
shoodle72 replied to bkskinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bkskinny, are you referring to Optifast shakes? If you are, the shakes I find are quite filling. They are full of Vitamins and minerals. They come in flavours including vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, coffee, banana, caramel to name a few. My favourite is the banana one as it tastes like banana icecream. I can't stand the optifast deserts or Soups. I'd rather starve than have those. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
