    extremely dry mouth

It could be related to air conditioning. You may be still affected from the intubation tube which causes sore throats. It's hard to say. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Newbie!

Welcome KitsuneMiko. We are from all over the world here. I'm from Sydney Australia. I'm having a gastric sleeve done on the 21st October. I'm 43 and weigh 139kg (sorry don't know pounds). BMI 51. Due to start a 3 week sentence of Optifast shakes on Friday. Last supper scheduled for tomorrow night. I'm really excited to be having my surgery. I've had spinal surgery and I'm a nurse. My brother was packing death about me having surgery and my mum has slowly come to terms with it now. They know that I'm determined to have it done as it is time to have a life. Let us know how you go. I've found this ap invaluable to know that other people have and are going through the same thing. You can get advice from people who really understand your concerns and can give you advice about how to get through any issues. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Drain

It doesn't sound like you are ready to have the drain removed sorry!! Drains are generally removed when the drainage is minimal. From what you are describing, this is not the case. If the drain wasn't there, this Fluid would cause a collection or seroma which then usually require draining. Talk to your surgeon and/or nurse for their advice. Try to be patient. I know I'd be wanting it out if it were me too but I've been there with other surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Surgery

No I don't think so. I am a nurse and we don't routinely put catheters in whilst patients are under anaesthetic and remove it before you wake up. Catheters are generally used when patients are unlikely to be able to get up to pee after surgery, to measure urine output to make sure your kidneys are working or after bladder or gynaecological surgery. Getting sleeved tomorrow

I had spinal surgery and had a PCA (self controlled pain pump) whereby the anaesthetist put some anti nausea drug plus the pain medicine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Confused

Fluid consumption through the day will affect your weight. If you eat salty food, you will retain fluid too. Hormones also play havoc on the scales. Rule of thumb, weigh yourself at the same time before eating/drinking and after toilet if to get a dry weight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I have a fatty liver like most overweight people. No big deal. I will start my 3 weeks of Optifast shakes and salad from this Friday 30/9. My surgery is scheduled for 21st October 2016. Yippeeeee!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Vancomycin for C difficile

Have you tried Flagyl (Metronidazole) which is a antibiotic that is used a lot with gastrointestinal bacteria. You need to make sure that you're drinking adequately and would benefit from probiotics. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre op diet concerns !

I'm scheduled to have sleeve surgery on 21st October and I got a 3 week Optifast and salad vegetable diet pre-op. The main issue with this diet is low sugar, no fat, high Protein, high Vitamins. The idea is to put our body into ketosis to force us to rid our liver of the fat covering it and this causes the liver to shrink back so that when we have surgery, our stomach is more visible making the surgery easier. Swelling

There are lots of reasons for swollen legs. They can range from minor reasons to life threatening and can include inadequate levels of Protein, heart failure, kidney failure, blood clots in the legs or simply Water retention. Please go to a doctor. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Wound opened

Just keep an eye out for any ooze, pain, pus until you see your doctor. Best to keep it covered. If there any sign of infection, don't wait to see the surgeon, just head to the Emergency Department. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I had spinal surgery and I had pain like this. The first time I thought I was having a heart attack and was then reassured that it was from the gas. Best that you check with your surgeon or doctor to be in the safe side. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Steri strips

I agree with Seashells82. I too am a nurse and suggest that you have a shower and take them off in the shower. It's no worse than taking off a bandaid plaster. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    One week off from work?

I am a nurse consultant and I am planning to have 3 weeks off work. My surgeon said that if my job was sedentary I could go back after 1 week but it would be hard as my body would be struggling to get enough Fluid in to prevent dehydration. Most people take off 2 weeks. I'm having the extra week to allow my wounds to heal as I don't wish to put myself at risk of picking up an infection in my wounds. working out

I have been given a 2kg lifting capacity for the first 4 weeks. No gym work for 6 weeks. I was told that you can run the risk of hernias, adhesions and multiple other complications. I'm listening to this advice. I have seen a friend who didn't and she developed seromas that needed to be drained. No thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    October sleevers?

My dietitian has put me on 3 weeks of Optifast Meal Replacement shakes x3 times daily. I'm also allowed to have salad vegetables such as lettuce, capsicum, onion, tomatoes and no fat salad dressing. I can also have steamed vegetables at dinner time except for starchy vegetables such as potato, corn etc. I can have sugarless jelly and sugar free diet soft drinks too. I can cope with this.
