Post-Op Headache... HELP
lizzieann replied to MissBS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had a bad headache after my surgery. I was in a hotelroom in Denver with my daughter who was to have surgery the next day. MY pain meds wouldnt touch it so a chewed up a few Ibuprofin and that took care of it. The Dr. was totaly fine with that. If you have a pill cutter use that and then take it with Water. You are having enough other discomfort to have to deal with a headache as well. Lizzieann -
I would think if its both breasts its not any thing to serious. Have you lost weight in your breasts and are now more aware of lumpy breasts? I know a lot of women have what they call lumpy breasts, I think its hormonal if I remember right. As far as the itching well who knows it could be anything including stress. Its a good idea to see a Dr. just to make sure . I wouldnt worry to much. Lizzieann

Hi I went to Colorado for my surgery. I have been assured by Aberta Health that any followup care is covered. I get my fills for free at the Grande Prarie hospital, covered by Alberta Health. Lizzieann

I don't buy this delayed fill idea. I have had 5 fills as has my daughter. I think fluid flucuation in our body is what makes it tight or loose as does any type of irritation to the band area such as not chewing well enough , which can really hurt as we all well know, or having to pb ,or when we get a fill, they can all cause swelling. We have x amount of filling in the band, granted it may leak out but I do not believe it magicaly gets fuller. My daughter is a little on the full side and every day is different some days she is loose and some days she's really tight. Just some thoughts I have. Lizzieann

I find it interesting he gave you a realize band. I was banded by Dr.K in april and he said he only uses the ap lapband. Would be interesting to find out why he changed . Lizzieann

With only 1.5 cc in a 14cc you will most likley not notice any difference. I have a 14cc band as well, and I have 12cc in it after 5 fills. I now seem to have good restriction. I had not bad restriction at 10.5 cc but this was only when I had my monthly. My dr. told me he debated putting in a 10cc band, and said I could have had either one. I do think the band it really to big for me. Thank goodness my fills are free. Having said all that , it is a large band and will take some time to fill. My daughter has a 10cc band she has excellent restriction at 7cc. Lizzieann

When do you feel restriction??
lizzieann replied to Parteetime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, You are probably a long way from good restriction. I have 10.5cc in a 14 cc band. I went for my first fill at 5 weeks post op. They gave me 3cc and told me I had 2cc already. I had really no restriction at 5cc, I went in one week later and got another 2cc and I felt a bit of restriction. I went back one week later and got 2 cc. I had some restriction at 7cc but not near enough. Went back and got 2cc again. They are done under floroscopy and i looked really tight. I noticed my restiction slowly fading. I went in 4 weeks later and the dr. could not believe how wide open my band was compared to 4 weeks before so he gave me 1.5 cc and said to come back in a week for more. Surprisingly I have pretty good restriction now. I really don't know whats going on. I was thinking I have a leak some where. I guess time will tell. Everybody is different so you cant really go by my experience. good luck. Lizzieann -
Fill Amount Question; Fill Centers USA comment
lizzieann replied to ImaKaren4U's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The fills at .25 seem very small. especially for the 10 ap or 14 ap bands. I asume its because they are a fill only center they like to make as much off each client as possible. I have a 14ap band. I had 2cc at time if surgery. 5 weeks out I got a fill for 3cc, one week later I had a 2cc fill the one week later a fill of 2 cc. I have some restriction although I dont think I'm quite there. I have decided to wait 1 month and see what how I feel. We are able to have a fill as needed, because we need restriction as soon as possible after all thats why we got the band. By the way we are self pay, but at least our fills are free . We are from alberta Canada ad we get our fills at the hospital where they are covered by Alberta health. My daughter has the 10 cc band and she had 1cc at time of surgery. She got 2cc first fill,2cc second fill, 2 cc third fill, and had 1cc taken out because she was too tight . We have ours done with flouro . I can see doing a .25 fill you have a 4cc band or if you are almost full. There is no need to fill .25 cc at the early stages because you wont probably notice a thing. with a 10ap band it will cost you a budle and take for ever to get good resriction, Just some thoughts Lizzieann -
Crazy "sweet spot" question....what next?
lizzieann replied to Laurinda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Laurinda, Its awsome you have great restriction. What size is your band? How much are you getting with each fill? I will get my 3rd fill on wedensday. I have a 14ccAP band. I have been having them once a week at the hospital with flouroscopy. I got 2cc at time of surgery, 3cc first fill, 2cc second fill, with a total of 7 cc. I can eat anything including bread so any weightloss is by using willpower. The radiologist said to come in every week until I have good restriction. I live in Alberta Canada so Alberta Health covers my fills. I did self pay for surgery in Denver because the wait lists were 2to 3 years. I hape to get to the place your at fairly soon. Lizzieann -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
lizzieann replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
:lol:Hi In regards to the BBQ what exactly would we they be serving? My husband thought it was so funny a bunch of lapbanded people trying to enjoy a BBQ. Seriously though I know its more about getting together than eating. Have a good day! Lizzieann -
Looking for banders from Grande Prairie, Alberta
lizzieann replied to ahubar's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Priscilla I have an appointment for the begining of may for my first fill with Dr.O. How much does he use for the first fill? My Dr. in Denver puts around 5cc the first fill. I have a 14cc APband. I had my GP call Dr. Jim about doing my fills at the hospital and he said he would do it if we had any problems. I can feel my port so I asume the Dr. should have no trouble finding it. Does he use any freezing or just go on in? How much time does a fill take. Thanks Lizzieann -
Anyone Had surgery outside of USA & Canada
lizzieann replied to Mychael's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had mine done in Denver Colorado 2 weeks ago. Is is also much closer or me than Toronto. The cost of the Sugery was 9950$, with freel fill for 3 months than 10$ afill after. Having said that I have mad arangements with a local Dr. who will do my fills. He was trained by TWLC and apperently does a lot of fills. My Dr. has made arrangements with the radiologist at the hospital and he does fills under fluoro if I have any problems getting them dome. Thewse fills are covered by Alberta Heaith becauce they are done in outpaitients. I Talked to Alberta Health before I went down and any type of procedure done for slippage , erosion or what ever will be done in Alberta and paid for by Alberta Health. There are several surgons who do the surgery in Alb erta . I decided not to wait the 9 months it was to take to get it done on Red Deer. I have no regrets either and had a wonderfull experience in Denver. Lizzieann -
My Dr. explained the reason for the low carb diet is it depleats your liver of glycogen. Which is surger that your liver stores for your body to use. I asme this must increase its size. Any of you familure with low carb diets know your body only starts burning body fat after the glycogen is gone and you are no longer ingesting surger. This only takes about a week or so but is imperative that you adhear to the diet. My Dr. told us he had one girl he opperated on and her liver was huge. He closed back up . Her parents told him she had not stuck to the diet and was eating frenchfries up until the night before. Her liver was full of glycogen. As far as the fatty part I'm not to sure how quickly you lose that fat. I stuck to my diet as did my daughter. She lost about 10lbs I lost about 4Lbs. We were just fine .WE have each lost aroud 20Lbs post-op. Our surgerys were 2weeks ago. Lizzieann
