Weight loss at 4 Months
ready_to_be_thin replied to mylastchance21's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I lost about 55 pounds in my first 4 months. But everyone is definitely different so try not to compare too much, although I know that is easier said than done. Averaging 10 pounds per month weight loss is outstanding!! Give yourself a huge pat on the back and hang in there. You will get there. Best of luck! -

Preventing constipation TMI
ready_to_be_thin replied to Sugarnspice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suffered horribly with constipation also. My doctor recommended Miralax, but it just didn't work for me. I found some stuff on Amazon called ClearLax. I think it is a whole lot like Miralax, but quite a bit cheaper. It works wonders for me. It dissolves in anything and has no taste. I take it about every 3 days and I also take a stool softener daily. I definitely recommend! -
Yes, its wrapped in a lettuce leaf instead of the bread.

P.S.....I asked my doctor how long he thought I should take off and he said one week. -
How long were you off work?

I took off 2 weeks but I could have went back after one. I have a desk job also. I just took the 2 because I had the time. -
I did't start drinking coffee again until about 4 months out...but it was only because it just didn't smell or sound good at the time. I am almost 6 months out now, and I drink about 1-2 cups a day. It doesn't bother my tummy at all.

Unaltered bodies is exactly right! When I went to have my blood work done for my 3 month post-op follow-up, looking at my results and what was considered "normal" is different than what is really normal for us. I thought my protein levels looked fine according to the chart, but my doctor said that chart is for normal people, and that I'm not normal anymore. I needed to be at a much higher level than I was to be considered "normal" now.

Flavored water Questions...
ready_to_be_thin replied to jaynamy3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, I don't think so. They don't have any sugar, calories, or carbs in them, or none to speak of anyway, so they shouldn't be stalling your weight loss. I have been drinking them since day one of my surgery. I had a really hard time drinking plain Water up until about a month or so ago. For some reason plain water would just make me so nauseous. Hang in there. You are probably just having a slight stall, which is perfectly normal. Your body is just adjusting. You'll start losing again soon. Just hang in there. :-) -
Sleeping and recliners
ready_to_be_thin replied to char3672's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am strictly a side sleeper myself. I had very minimal pain from my sleeve surgery itself. What hurt most for me was my back from laying on it for so long after the surgery. I have chronic back pain, so laying on it during the surgery and the 2 nights after were hell on my back. But my surgery site itself was very minimal in regard to the amount of pain I had. I did sleep in my recliner the first night home, but it was mostly due to the fact that I was a bit scared of climbing my stairs. But by the second night, I think it was hurting my back worse to sleep in my recliner, so I decided to go to my bed. The stairs weren't bad at all, and I didn't have any problem sleeping on my side. -

I hate protein shakes
ready_to_be_thin replied to pixiechick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What flavor did you try? I went to my Vitamin Shoppe and they only had one flavor and I think it was raspberry something. I did not like it at all. It tasted like medicine almost. Really similar to what a 5-hour Energy tastes like. But yes, definitely expensive. Just curious what flavor you tried to see if I might can try or find another one. Thank you! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App The Blue Raspberry is the only one I don't like. But the other flavors are somewhat similar, except for the tea one. So if you really hated that one you probably won't love the others. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App It was definitely the Blue Raspberry one that I tried. It was icky!! Thanks for letting me know. They are really too expensive to do too much experimenting with. -
I am staying low carb....I like to cut up sliced cheese and put it in the oven at 400 degrees for about 6 minutes. Yummy! Also, if I feel like I need something crunchy, I will allow myself to eat about 5 pork rinds. That's very rare, but they don't have any carbs. But they make me very thirsty so I can't eat very many since I can't eat and drink at the same time. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App

I hate protein shakes

When I was at your stage, Protein shakes made me so nauseous. It didn't matter what time of the day I drank them, I just couldn't stand them. And I couldn't seem to stomach the so-called unflavored protein either. It's definitely not completely unflavored. But when I went for my 3-month follow-up, he told me my protein levels were way too low. My hair started falling out shortly after that, so those 2 things were enough to force me to do something different. I tried a bunch of different Protein drinks, and I finally found that I can drink one at about 3 o'clock and it doesn't make me nauseous at that time of the day. I like the Adkins different coffee flavored ones, and the Premier Protein vanilla ones are tolerable for me. I try to stick with the Premier Protein because it has a lot more protein in it. I also eat one Protein Bar a day. Usually the Oh Yeah bars or the Atkins bars. But what I do that's most important is the unflavored protein. Although like I said it's not completely unflavored to me, what I do is actually use half of the scoop in my drinks instead of a full scoop. But I do that with every drink that I have. Doing this allows it to be drinkable to me and not disgusting. I use Isopure unflavored protein mix. And doing it this way allows me to reach my daily protein goals. Thank you. Did you go to the hospital for the enema or was it over the counter? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App I just bought them over the counter. They work but I hate to resort to that. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App

Excruciating Internal Incision Pain
ready_to_be_thin replied to Meliss80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry that you are hurting so much! can't completely relate to you because I really had very little pain with my surgery, but I do remember that about day 4 or so, that same incision spot started hurting worse than the others and hurt more than it had in the prior days. I have read that that is where the most work is done, and I think is the spot where they pull your stomach out of. So I think it has more trauma than the other incisions, so its pretty normal for it to hurt worse than the others. But I do remember it only hurt like that for a few days, and then it was gone. Walking definitely seemed to help. Hang in there, I promise it will get better. -
