  1. I am 20 weeks out and have experienced the symptoms listed below. I would say it's dumping syndrome but I haven't had any sugar. Has anyone experienced this, could it be low blood sugar, I don't think it's anxiety. It comes on without warning. Any thoughts? Symptoms Jittery feeling Sometimes a warm rush Faster heart beat

    No Hairloss?

My hair loss started at 12 weeks out.
  3. HW 328 SW 311 CW 259 Surgery 8/23 I am 12 weeks out and thought I would be fine, I have been taking Biotin religiously. My hair is now starting to really thin out, it's very curly so you can't see it too much but I am taking a bunch out daily. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do? This is the only side effect I have experienced so far.

  7. While I am so happy for everyone, this is totally depressing for me. I had surgery on 8/23 at 311, almost 8 weeks out and am at 280 now, that's a total weight loss of only 31 pounds. What am I doing wrong!!!! Any advice?

    Slower weight loss... curious

I am 7 weeks, surgery was 8/23 . I was at 311 for surgery and now I'm at 280, so I am losing at a slower pace also. I feel your frustration because I thought I would have lost more too. I do feel better though, so that's a plus.
  9. I had my surgery on 8/23 and am looking for someone to exchange experiences with. I'm from Rochester NY and there aren't many support groups. Thanks AnnMarie

    Looking for a RNY buddy

Hi Caylyn So good to hear from someone that had their surgery at Highland. I'm curious to know how your experience has been. I had Dr. O'Malley, I haven't had any complications but I feel like it's been a slow process. I guess I just expected the weight to come off quickly, I started at 311 at surgery and am now at 280. How have things been for you? AnnMarie

    Pictures

I had RNY on 8/23, started at 311 and am now down to 280. I get so frustrated because some people have lost like 50 pounds by now, I feel like I'm losing slow also. Are you working out a lot?

    Me!

Congratulations! I had my surgery on 8/23, started at 311 and am down to 280. I have to admit, it feels slow to me also. What kind of eating plan are you on?

    Looking for a RNY buddy

Hi Heather Thanks for responding!!! I actually have good energy, I was most tired until about 2 to 3 weeks out. The supplements are really helping, my surgeon told me to take Flinstones chewables but I switched to an organic vegetable based Vitamin. You may be tired if you are not getting enough fluids in or Protein. I am on the soft food diet now but I've tailored it to meet my own likes, I'm a very fussy eater. My struggle is more mental, I'm of Italian descent and much of my socialization was centered around food so I want things that I can't have right now. And boy would I love a huge Hershey bar right now,LOL What types of things are you experiencing? AnnMarie
  14. I had the same concerns because Water is so bland. The second day at the hospital they gave me crystal light with some flavor and I was fine after that. Get something you like to drink(sugar free) and you should be fine.

    What should I expect

since my surgery on 8/23 I have lost 27 pounds. I started off slow the first 2 weeks because I was not getting enough Protein, on week 3 I think I dropped 8 or 9 pounds. Everyone is different, follow the plan they give you and you will be fine, plus you are male and you will lose more quickly. Don't push yourself with the exercise at first, wait till about a month out to lift, etc. Good luck Thursday!!!

    What should I expect

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!! After you have your surgery you aren't going to feel like eating, so the Protein shakes will be fine. My surgery was on 8/23 and I did shakes until week 3, after that I did a combination of pureed and soft foods. Some of the hardest things for me was not being able to drink things quickly, you have to take small sips I'm Italian so much of my social life is centered around food, the mental battle has been difficult but feeling free of the weight keeps me going. Good Luck!

    Tired all the time

I had my surgery on 8/23 and had absolutely no pain, never took pain meds. I will say that I was extremely uncomfortable from the Co2 and was tired for about 2 weeks. I took many mini walks down the driveway several times a day. I'm now 7 weeks out and feel great, be patient you will start to feel better soon.

    Eating pizza after surgery

I love pizza, so for me this is very hard(surgery 8/23) Check out recipes for cauliflower crust pizza, it's awesome

    Pre Op Emotions

I felt the same way before my surgery(8/23). It's hard because you don't know what to expect. I would say for the first two weeks take it as easy as possible, your incisions will be the worst part(at least they were for me). I had absolutely no pain coming out of surgery and the worst part was the gas buildup from the Co2, it wasn't painful but uncomfortable. Just keep saying to yourself that you are doing this to improve your health, you are strong and can handle this. The biggest hurdle for me wasn't physical but mental, you are saying good bye to some of your normal foods and that's hard, but in time you will learn that you can have some of those foods again just in smaller portions. I am here for support if you want to email me. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!! God Bless AnnMarie

Why I'll Never Say, 'You Look Great!'

I actually had someone tell me that I was going to love shopping now. I get that they were trying to be supportive, but that really stung. When you are heavy and then become thin, you are the same exact person just in a smaller package.
  24. I had my WLS on August 23rd and was not losing any weight. Pre Op I was 311 and stalled for about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks out with minimal weight loss. It was the weirdest thing, almost over night I started having great progress and am now at 291. So, for anyone out there who is experiencing what I did, have faith! this will also happen for you. There is a lot of great advice and good people on this forum, listen to them. AnnMarie
  25. I was definitely frustrated the first two weeks, when you start to feel better you will realize just how out of whack your body was after surgery. Remember that they fill you with gas and fluids, not to mention all the antibiotics. Follow your meal plan and you should be just fine, if you need support feel free to email me. AnnMarie
