History of Stomach Ulcers--Anyone else?
HeatherO replied to m&nsmama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am curious , what did you do to combat the ulcers last August? Did they find that you had the H-Pylori bacteria? Are you on some kind of medicinal regimen to prevent a reoccurrence now? -
Simple YES/NO - Can I have Apple Cider Vinegar 5days post op?
HeatherO replied to noosagirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would say no unless you ask your doctor. You don't want to irritate your stomach even if it is a liquid. -

I think it is a great time to reevaluate everything, get your head on straight without having him in the house. You have some hard thinking to do and it is easier to do when you are alone. I am sorry you had to go through this, but at least it is better to know than to go about life being unaware. First things first, if this relationship is ever going to be back on solid ground, he needs to provide a little honesty. Your trust is gone and he will have to rebuild it if you can ever have a future together. Only honesty and being upfront will help to get you there.

Banded & Hoping to get Preg - join in!
HeatherO replied to eejaydiva's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I would like to join the "hoping to be preggers soon" club. I stopped taking my pills mid-late August. I am due again for my TOM the week of the September 15th so we will see how it goes. My OB/Gyn said that after being on pills so many years it could take me anywhere from 3 - 12 months to conceive . . . so who knows when I will have something to report. I have to say though that now we are "trying" to conceive, my husband and I have been having the times of our lives. I didn't know it would be that way, but I am loving every minute of it . . . even if it takes a year. Please send me the baby dust as well :0) -
Banded, preggo and lots of questions
HeatherO replied to ellie619's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I would try to bolster the diet if you are not eating much. Perhaps something as simple as an extra glass of milk and a V8 juice during the day might be easy to add in and good for the baby. -
It sounds really strange. I would definitely call your doctore. Once you are unfilled, I wouldn't think you should have that kind of pain related to banding.

Now that I have lost most of my weight, people have really taken notice. Strangers, family and everyone in between are now approaching me and saying, wow you look great. What are you doing??? How much have you lost??? At first I was absolutely thrilled with my weight loss being noticed. Now I am ready to fade back into being relatively unnoticed. As far as "What are you doing???" is concerned I always answer, exercise, portion control, lack of processed carbs with no bread, no rice. I don't mention the band outside of this forum. This is an acceptable answer and people almost never question anything beyond that. As far as "How much have you lost???" is concerned . . . I am not always answering this truthfully. I am beginning to become more embarrassed as the weight loss number grows higher and so I give a lower number than is true. I never say so much more than . . . I lost around 50 pounds. So I am now downplaying my weight loss, I can't believe I am doing this . . . because I never would have guessed I would have felt this way. Why am I embarrassed? Because a big number means that I was a lot heavier than I ever wanted to accept. It is like now that I am relatively normal, I want everyone, including myself, to forget that I used to be different. I used to read threads before banding where people say, I don't like all the attention weight loss brings . . . I really thought that perhaps some people were just saying that. Now, finally and truly, I think I understand what people are talking about. I just want to be me . . . not the person who lost xx number of pounds. Is anyone else experiencing this???
-
I have gone down half a shoe size as well. I also plan on buying some winter boots that zip this year :0)
-
I think you handled it well. If you just keep handling it the same way, she will eventually get the message. Another option is just to talk with her privately and ask that she doesn't do it anymore.

Well now it is going to be removed.
HeatherO replied to bbuttroo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am very sorry you are going through this. Is there a chance that the pain may not be resolved by removing the band or is the doctor sure it is caused by being banded? -
Has anyone had the band removed after losing all the weight they wanted to???
HeatherO replied to davehop47's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think there is not any reason to have it removed afterwards. You can always have it unfilled which leaves you open to eat normally for the most part . . . then it is there to help you if you start gaining. If you remove it altogether, you are most likely to regain according to the statistics . . . . so why go through surgery at all just to go back to where you were to begin with. I myself plan to have a slight unfill once I reach goal. -
I had my surgery during the same month and am almost at goal as well. I have been having problems with complacency as well, however, I found I can combat it with tracking what I am eating. I know that may not be your style, and it isnt mine either, but by doing that for just a couple of days when I can see what that occasional piece of whatever is doing to my calorie intake, it gets my head back into the groove of losing and I can continue.
-
Stick to liquids for the first day. Move up to mushies and then solids as you tolerate them. However, if for any reason you pb after the fill, go back to liquids for a day or you will continue pb'ing.
-
An unfill could be just what you need at this point to get losing again. If you can't get good proteins down, then you are missing the primary help that the lapband can give you. As long as you eat carefully and healthy after the unfill, it can kick your weightloss back into gear. I would suggest tracking calories and protein for a while as well.

couple of questions
HeatherO replied to luckytoloose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always gain during TOM but lose it quickly thereafter, specially if I am drinking plenty of Water. When I slack off on the water it doesn't come off as quickly. You should not be holding on to that weight for weeks however. I would do the fill if you have a couple of days to go in after if you need an unfill. However, if it is just fill and then he is completely unavailable for two weeks I would wait. Perhaps it is also good to check with the doctor to see if someone else will pick up any emergency unfills in his absence if it is needed . . . then you might have appropriate coverage. It is very, very rare to need an unfill after your first fill because they usually don't give you very much. -
Am I a candidate for Lap Band surgery?
HeatherO replied to EyeOfRa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
For insurance coverage, at 210 and 66 inches or 5'6 you would have a BMI of 33.9. At this weight you would need to have comorbidities (serious health issues) to be a candidate at BMI's of 35-39.9. Over a BMI of 40 you would qualify. You would have to weigh a minimum of 248 to have a BMI of this level. If you are a self pay, you could probably find a doctor to do it if you are over a BMI of 35. -
Ladies - What Size Clothes to Cross Your Legs?
HeatherO replied to JulieNYC's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I became comfortable doing it for an extended period at 16. but upper sizes could still cross for short periods. Now in a size 10 they are more comfortable crossed than not. :0) -
They look great, and the price is right. I didn't realize they could look so natural in.
-
I don't have depo but have been on the pill for years. I would have a very light 2 day period like clockwork before banding. After banding from months 2-6 (when I was losing a lot of weight) my periods became 10 times worse and lasted at least a week. The rapid weightloss did a number on my cycle. Even though I am not on depo, steady birth control puts us in the same general category. It has finally evened out and life has become semi normal once again.
-
I understand what you mean. I was in denial, now that I am banded I had to not only accept how big I was, but accept who I am every day. It takes a little getting used to.
-
When motivation wanes and weight loss becomes less and less a driving factor in your life it is easy to feel a little blue. Exercise does absolutely wonders for improving mood. I highly recommend it.
-
That is awesome news . . . you are doing great!!!
-
I would wait until tomorrow morning. First thing in the morning, drink something hot and see how it goes. If it doesn't go well, call the doctor early and see if you can get in.
-
I wouldn't try it from a mattress on the floor. It is hard enough getting up when the bed is standard height. You don't want to hurt yourself or be in a lot of pain.
