Depression after surgery?
katie09/21/2016 replied to katie09/21/2016's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is exactly my experience!! The nausea really destroyed my soul...it's much better now but I'm struggling with this sad, lonely feeling. This was so unexpected...I'm still only 5 days post-op so in hoping to turn a corner soon. Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App -
I would say be prepared for anything in the moments/days immediately post-op. don't be shocked or disheartened if you wake up from surgery feeling differently to what you were expecting. You WILL get through it all Goodluck Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

When does this get better
katie09/21/2016 replied to busybeebug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am loving this thread! I was sleeved on 09/21 and I can relate to just about everything everyone is saying here!! Except for you lucky people who didn't get the pain or nausea...I wish that was me I felt like I was really prepared for everything going into surgery - a proper know it all! I was even reading some of the posts of people in this thread last week before my surgery thinking: "how on earth could they feel regret and misery? Surgery will be wonderful!" ....haha well, I learnt the hard way that it's not always smooth sailing! I still believe knowledge is power going into surgery, but it can be much harder initially to deal with....I'm still in the "initially" phase (getting better). I haven't even attempted Vitamins yet, just grateful to get fluids down!! So grateful for the support of the forums Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App -
Sleeved 4 Days ago. So many questions
katie09/21/2016 replied to Pi Sano's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 21st & was struggling with the Water & pain issue too. I borrowed one of my toddlers sippy cups & this has helped me so much in getting the liquids down without the weird pressure. It might be worth a try? This week is tough I'm right there with you Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App -
DEEP, DEEP HUNGER
katie09/21/2016 replied to Browneyedgirl41's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Cymbalta withdrawals are no joke!! I been through it several times. It's best to taper down the dose under the care of a doctor (I know that's not always practical). The withdrawals are mean but it can be done. I can't imagine coming off medication after surgery - I'm struggling with the surgery enough on its own. I have so much respect for those of you battling with that on top of everything else Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App -
Depression after surgery?
katie09/21/2016 replied to katie09/21/2016's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I appreciate all the support & ideas I already feel better just hearing from you all. My husband has taken the maximum amount of time off work & has done a wonderful job with the kids, but he had to go back to work today my older 2 kids are entertaining themselves & my youngest is right by my side (I can't sneak a nap in because I'm scared he will jump on my belly for a hug!). I feel like I'm getting on top of this... Short term pain for long term gain? Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App -
Depression after surgery?
katie09/21/2016 replied to katie09/21/2016's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for your reply, glad that im not the only one. I feel so upside down! I don't have a lot of family support (they live in another country) and not many friends close by....I underestimated how lonely I would feel at this point. Im really not good at asking for help or showing vulnerability so I'm hoping I can find help at the support group....or on here Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App -

You are tougher than me!! I'm really happy to hear you are doing ok Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App -
It's my turn for the gastric sleeve tomorrow morning (8am). I feel nervous and weird... I started at my surgeons weightloss center on Jan 29th 2017. I am 5'9 and I weighed in at 271 pounds. This morning I weighed myself at 216 pounds, so I'm heading into surgery somewhat lighter than I expected. I am thankful for the program I've been through and the time I've had to adjust things in my life in preparation for this.....(although who knows how I will feel this time tomorrow!) Having said that, in still terrified but excited to get through this next part. I haven't been on the forums long but I am so grateful for having access to something like this - shared experience. I've learnt a lot & really love having the support of others who get it. Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

So happy to hear you are doing well! They should be able to give you something for nausea, did you pass your leak test yet? Hope Your Day is Great, *Amber* The Starving Mom starvingmom.wordpress.com “I'm not telling you it's going to be easy - I'm telling you it's going to be worth it.” - Art Williams They decided not to do the leak test on me at this time because of the extreme nausea - they said it could make things much worse so they are holding off for now. I ended up with a patch behind the ear, injections into my IV and finally I got a bag of stuff that helps people who have nausea from chemo. I really wasn't prepared for how sick I would feel - yikes! It's 3 days post op for me now & im home. I am a little bit depressed because it was over a day before they could get the nausea under control. I just wanted to sleep & I couldn't so I think exhaustion is playing a big part in what I'm feeling. It's gets easier as the days go by. I would still make this decision again how are you?? September 2016 Post VSG Updates
katie09/21/2016 replied to Shell Renewed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was 09/21 & I just got home yesterday. I'm going to be honest & say recovery is a lot more difficult than I was expecting. I'm having the most trouble with nausea- I can live with the pain but the constant sick feeling is horrid! Meds help & it gets easier as time passes. Oh and this is probably TMI but my period decided to arrive early - about 20 minutes before I was due in surgery!! Yes, they can still go ahead and did. I get nausea at that time normally so that on top of surgery has really knocked me around. Im feeling thoroughly miserable but i still have no regrets & im happy I have other people's stories to read on here or i would be feeling a lot worse mentally. Thank you for all the supportive messages - I'm feeling the love from the forums right now and I need it! I was sleeved at 8am this morning, and I woke up wishing I could get knocked back out lol nausea was worse than the pain....meds have taken care of both thankfully. I'm just hanging out in my stylish hospital gown trying to rest. For the first couple of hours I was in full on regret mode but as the day goes on I am feeling much better. Thanks everyone Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App -

I'm halfway through my clear liquid diet & I have stuck to it religiously (protein/vitamins/no solid food/liquid goals) I've been feeling pretty good (once I got past day 3) BUT this morning I woke up feeling so drained & lifeless. I'm not even hungry just dragging! I still have a week to go! Is this normal??? Have others experienced this? I'm anxious about the surgery next week too... I'm progressively gaining energy as the day goes on but it was really f*cking hard to get out of bed this morning. Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

First day on liquid diet!
katie09/21/2016 replied to luzR's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanted to add that after almost 2 weeks on a clear liquid diet, my breath smells somewhat funky (I can taste it!! ). Has anyone else noticed this? I'm trying not to stand within breathing distance of people. I feel bad for my husband! Gotta love Ketosis! Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App -

Explaining surgery to kids?
katie09/21/2016 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday (yikes!!)and I have been on my liquid diet for almost a week now. My 2 eldest boys who are ages 9 & 5, have noticed that I haven't been eating food and have been asking a lot of questions as to why. Today at lunch I decided to give them some warning about the upcoming surgery & they asked a million questions - as kids do! I am pretty upfront with people about my struggles and plans to get surgery (if they ask why) but I absolutely was unprepared and struggled to tell my kids the truth. I'm not sure that they are old enough to process what weight loss surgery means, and I'm a tiny bit worried that my 5 year old might innocently start suggesting it overweight people we know (he is very helpful like that!). I settled on telling them that I am getting my stomach fixed because it's not really helping me be healthy (which is basically true!). They had to be at the hospital with my husband when I had my EGD done & the surgery is at the same hospital so I was able to call on that to make it a bit less scary for them. I'm curious to know how other people explained the surgery to younger kids, if at all? And how kids reacted after the surgery? Any opinions or thoughts welcome! Thank all Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App -
