What does the sweet spot really feel like?
shelly1066 replied to MrsBerggren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All people sweet spot is different. My girlfriend and I both have the 10cc band and she found hers at 5.5 cc and I just got back from my 13th fill and I was at 8.0 and now im at 8.3 and Im hoping I finally found it!!!! If you can eat a "normal" amount of food and stop only because you know you should, I would get your fill but that is me. My friend gets full after 4-5 bites where I can still eat quite a bit. im hoping this one hits the mark! -
theworldaccordingtoeggface I stumbled accross this site and it has some great recipies that i cant wait to try! :thumbup:Thought i would share with all of you

Hi everyone! I was banded on 03/10/08 and im down about 60lbs but the scale hasnt moved in weeks and im at one of my lowest points. I eat PERFECT, exercise 3 times a week (spin 2x week and run) and im GAINING weight. Does anyone know what a typical calorie intake of a 200lb 5'5 women should consume with the amount I exercise? Here is my typical day of eating: B- oatmeal with scoop of Protein or egg beaters with spinach, with that 70 calorie LF yogurt. coffee with creamer (i figured my creamer is about 100 calories) L- salad with chicken, MEASURED 3T dressing, 10 olives, 15 seseme sticks (80 calories) S- small apple with 2T Peanut Butter (on gym days) D- 4oz of either steak, fish, chicken and veggie- normally spinach or aspargas Liquids- 64+ a day I feel that i am eating great and people get on me about my creamer, 10 olives and 15 small seseme sticks with my salad but look at what i eat in a day and to me, that doesnt seem like much. Espicially since when I go spinning, I burn about 600 in an hour (wear heart rate monitor). I go to my nutritionist and alls they say is eat healthy and exercise. Ok I DO and HAVE for a year now and the scale is now going up??? Am i eating to much? not enough? Im so frustrated and not sure what to do. Does anyone incorporate South Beach or Body for Life? Any help or words of encouragment is appreciated

I think my problem is im not eating enough and I schedule an appointment with my nutritionist on Monday. I work better if you give me a list saying ok for Breakfast, lunch and dinner - choose one food from each category and indicate how much. Im MUCH better at following a plan........ on my own, not so much! The only thing that I really have issues with getting stuck is steak other than that, im good. Actually could use a fill :-)

Checking in - 14 months post surgery
shelly1066 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone, Its been forever since I have been on here and just wanted to give everyone a status check as to where I am 14 months after surgery. Weight loss is SLOW but my doctors tell me Im doing great. I think everyone want instint gratification and we all know deep down its not the way to go. I started at 257 and Im down to 204 and with over 20" of inches gone. Started at 20 (tight) and im in 14's now. I myself have had over 12 fills and Im finally where I need to be so if you can still eat eat eat, get a fill you wont regret it. I have to contribute some of my weight loss to my spinning classes which im am now addicted to! I go about 3-4 times a week and burn about 500-600 a class! One of my goals is to become an instructor and teach a class or two a week but I have to shed the remaining weight first. Who wants to look at an over weight instructor even though I can kick their buts on that cycle! I keep asking my doc if I should be trying to eat more than I do because I burn so much and maybe that is why Im losing so slowly but they say no. Has anyones doctor told them differently?? I still have 55 to go to meet my goal and dont want it to take another year to do so! Bottom line - if people are out there and getting discouraged, dont! Look back on what you have lost and thank the lord above we still dont have that weight on us! Slow and steady wins the race!!!! -
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE if someone put one together. I would even BUY it!! Someone about a year ago was going to create one, bind them and sell them but never came about. I think its a great idea for someone to do to make some side money! If someone does this, remember me because Im NO COOK whatso ever and would LOVE something like this!!:wink2:

Weightloss is so sssssssssslllllllllloooooooowwwww
shelly1066 replied to comtemplating's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im not at 75 or more but im in the 50's and im about 14 months out. I too feel that mine has been extremely slow but I try to remain positive and think, at lease im losing! Prior to surgery I couldnt lose 15 lbs without gaining it back. Im not consistent with my weight loss as far as pounds per week. I will go 3 weeks or so and not lose anything, then lose 6lbs and NOTHING changed in my eating habits or exercising routine. Are you exercising? If not, I would add that in. This way I can say, Im eating right, Im exercising as I should be so its just the way my body loses weight! We have to learn to be happy with what we have lost and not focus on the big picture. That catches me up everytime. Its to overwhelimg for me to see that I had 100lbs to lose. If my weight loss averages out to 1lbs a week in a year, hell I'll take it!! Keep positive and be happy with what you are losing! :wink2: -
People Losing 2lbs+ wk and exercising - What is your daily menu look like?
shelly1066 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For those of you who are losing 2+ lbs a week and doing cardio 3-4 times a week, do you know what your daily calorie intake is? What is your typical meals like? I do spin class 3-4 times a week and my weight loss is 1+ (if that some weeks) and I dont think that im getting enough food? -
where is my port?
shelly1066 replied to divaondean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont know about all of you but that is one thing I DEFINATELY know where it is!!! I feel it all the time. WHen Im doing sit ups, putting lotion on, bending over! I can even tighten my stomach muscles and make it stick out more! Mine is under my rib cage on my left side. Drives me nuts that I can feel it! -
I wish there was a book that gave you examples of daily meal plans. If someone wrote one, im sure they would be rich because many people I know who have been banned as the same question......what is a good daily meal plan? How many calories should I be consuming? Im afraid Im not eating enough. I exercise 30 minutes a day and hardly eat! If peope who are losing 2+ lbs a week could share what their typical day consists of eating, I would be forever grateful!

massive bloating 6 days out?
shelly1066 replied to p3photogal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 4 weeks out from my surgery and I am FINALLY starting to look and feel normal! I was so bloated my friend who is 6 months pregnant said if she didnt know better, I was the one pregnant!! I had wicked gas pains in my shoulder and stomach area. I called my doctor a few times because I didnt think the pain should have been that severe but they said it was normal. They suggested me to walk as much as I could to relieve the gas pains and it worked! It will get better, I promise. I was just in your shoes last week! -
stomac flu while banded
shelly1066 replied to bgrand's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cannot even imagine what the pain felt like. I sneezed a week after my surgery and was in tears!! I almost got sick from the anesthesia in the hospital and the nurses gave me a shot to calm my stomach because they didnt want me to throw up and possibly cause my band to slip. From what I have been told that you will know if your band slips because it is very painful. Are you having any type of pain except for your ribs? If yes, I would call your doctor just to be safe! -
I soooooooooooooooooo hear you!! I had my surgery on Thursday and came home on Saturday. Sunday i had to take off a few of my bandages because it was so itchey. I have TONS of little bumps (sort of like sun poisioning looking is all I can describe it) and RAW. Now they are all popping and i have a constant draining thing going on now. I called my doctor and as long as it is clear, I guess its ok. I too have tried benedryl but so far nothing is working for me either!

With only a few days until my surgery, during my pre-surgical testing I had an issue with my EKG. I had to go for an echo yesterday and Monday Im scheduled for a stress test (one where they inject the dye into my system). The doctor said it wasnt that bad but he will not clear me for surgery until I have the stress test done. Has anyone else had an abnormal reading and did they cancel your surgery? After everything we have to do to get to this point, Im so afraid that they are going to cancel my surgery!!

Has anyone been denied BMI 40 with no co-morbities?
shelly1066 replied to Rascal76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My BMI was 41 and I have blue cross and blue shield of Mass. I didnt have any issues and received my approval in 3 days. From hearing others at my support group, it really depends on your insurance carrier. Some needed medical records showing that they have been working with a doctor trying to lose weight while others needed to be enrolled in a 6 month weight loss program. Good Luck!! -
Hello everyone! My name is Michelle and currently im living in Burlington, MA. After thinking about this for a few years and just moving to Mass, I decided to call Lahey Clinic and schedule an appointment. That was in January and already my surgery is all approved and scheduled for March 13!!!! Needless to say Im freaking out a bit since It is going soooo fast!! If anyone is from around here and would like to chat, please contact me. Just moved here and I dont know anyone yet!!

Do most insurance companies require....
shelly1066 replied to Rivieramaya05's topic in Insurance & Financing
I am with BCBS of Mass and they didnt require really anything from me, thank god. I acutally was told my surgeons office that I needed 5 years worth of medical records along with "proof" that I was on a weight loss program and I needed none of the above! BUT I have heard from others in my support group that they have to fill all sorts of criteria before they will approve their surgeries. Mine approval was actually submitted last Friday and approved today (Tuesday) and surgery is scheduled for March 13th!! GOOD LUCK and DONT GIVE UP!! -
