How I got to where I am today
mrsNilla replied to mrsNilla's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So, today I'm exactly 4 weeks out, so maybe it's time for a quick update. My stall did break, but how slow can you go?!? I have lost 9.9 lbs in 4 weeks and I was so proud of reaching 400-500 cal and around 50 g of Protein a day. I had my first check up last Friday with my hospital nut, nurse and surgeon. I was so happy before I went in to see the nut, but that didn't last long. I told her about my Fluid intake issues and showed her my app where I log everything. She questioned if it truly is everything and gave me a lecture that I have to reach my fluid goals (yes, working on it every day), increase my protein to 70-80 g, eat more good fats and get to a total of 1200 cal!! In what universe?!? She also gave me some samples of high calorie Soups and the next sentance was promoting zero calorie Protein drinks... Hmm... I really don't know what to make of her. So I concentrate on doing what I can, what feels good and make healthy choices. My body scan did show some improvements, but the best news came from the surgeon. She cleared me for all exercise that isn't painful! Wohoo!! Also cleared for a full diet! She adressed my slow weight loss and said at this point, anything from 6 lbs to 20 lbs is normal and she would order some extra tests if I was at the higher end of the scale. So at least something good, I'm in her normal range. I have been having some nausea the last few days, but it's usually connected to eating. Which makes me eat even less and keeping longer distances in between. But today has been a good day. I finished my whole Breakfast and no nausea yet. I have the whole day off, so I can concentrate on reaching my fluid goal today. I slept well. And the scale showed a tiny step down, but I will take it! Any loss is a good loss!! Already did some online shopping, so that boosted my spirits! Other than that I have some xmas baking to do, presents to deliver, but I'm ready to relax over the holidays. So happy holidays to you all!! Nilla -

The itch means that they are healing. I scratched around my insicions, looking closely not to harm them. It seemed to help. Nilla

You are having the week 3 stall on schedule! Not to worry, everyone gets it. I got mine early at 9 days out. Your body is adjusting to the new calorie amount and needs a little time to reset. Search "embrace the stall", it explains it in more detail. Nilla

Got approved but still not sure....

I have had a few surgeries in my life. I never fear the anesthesia. My only problem is that my veins dry out quickly if I can't drink,so putting in an iv might be tricky. You can get some meds for anxiety if you feel you need it. But it's just a waiting game. Once in the operating room they attach all kind of monitoring devices to you, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen etc. None of them hurt. After the iv is inserted, all the meds are going in thru that. One of them stung, but not too bad. Then they have you breathing from the mask before you get the actual knock out drug, so you have oxygen in your blood when they are intubating you. I can taste the knock out drug in my mouth and then I'm off to sleep. Next thing I know is waking up in the recovery room. My worst part was the gas pain, but it got better the instant I was able to get up in a sitting position. I had rny, but everyone gets gas in their abdomen. Good luck with your desicion! Nilla -
Best chewable and gummie vitamins?
mrsNilla replied to erica2185's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I take this chewable B12 and it tastes great. It's also very small, just in case you don't care for the flavour. Nilla -
I know there are some gas reducing anti-acids, might that work? Nilla

HAPPY HEALTHY HOLIDAYS CHALLENGE!
mrsNilla replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good Monday morning to you all! 220.0 today, 3 weeks after surgery. I have to say I'm not impressed. Everyone are getting such great numbers and I'm a snail... I know I shouldn't compare, but I can't help it. Nilla -
I make my hubby his favorite meals and I eat what I can from them. Since I have no hunger, it's not a problem for me. I have my own Protein rich food in the fridge if I can't eat any of he is having. I bought him candy for Halloween on my pre-op diet and had no problems when he was eating them next to me. I have made a desicion to do this and I'm serious about it. I love baking so everyone in my circle are getting pies, cakes and ginger bread Cookies. I'm so happy xmas is coming so I have a good excuse to feed people :-D Nilla

3 weeks post-operative, solid food hurts!
mrsNilla replied to Marc A. Fellman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have more problems with my pouch in the morning. It's like a raisin before I get it going again. Even Water hurts. I made my first scrambled egg this morning. The first tiny bits went down like a rock and the unpleasant feeling started... 15 min later I'm eating my cold scramble without any problems! Try and try again! Nilla -

I was wearing my underwires right from the start with no problems what so ever. Nilla -
Men are simple creatures. And I mean it in the best way. When fishing for a compliment, and you have an idea of what you want, he has no clue!! So when he says your boobs are getting smaller, he is complimenting you. He has no clue about your thigh or waist measurements. He likes your boobs, looks at them often and noticed them changing. He also knows how hard you have been working towards your goal and wants to let you know that he did notice. Don't blame him for that. He has no clue about apps, charts, goals, measurements calories, lbs and oz. Unless he also had wls. So give your spouses a break and say thank you! Have plastics if you want to afterwards, but most guys don't care that much as long as they still have your full attention and get fed once in a while. That's why I loved working in an industry with mostly men. No bullshit, just keeping it real. Nilla

@@Djmohr How are you and your family doing? I have been thinking about you. Nilla
-
So sorry that you and your family has to go thru this! As a sufferer of chronic pain I can relate. A big problem is that drs are very cautious of prescribing strong enough meds so that people can be able to function with their pain. I will never be pain free and I no longer have false expectations of achieving that. That said, my meds make me function and don't blur my mind in the process. I also have non-med procedures to help along with the meds. The flip side is recognizing the possible abusers. They are very good at selling their stories to get their fix. Some real patients pay a price for that. I apologize for hijacking your thread, but this topic is something I feel very strongly about. Thank you for raising awareness. All the best to you and your family! Nilla

HAPPY HEALTHY HOLIDAYS CHALLENGE!

In a stall... 222 lbs today Nilla -
Plan ahead. Keep allowed choices in the fridge at all times. It's easier to slip if you run out of diet friendly food. Keep some food/drink with you where ever you go. Make sure you eat at regular interwalls to prevent hunger. Drink a lot of Water. Step on the scale, it will show the diet is working. Keep your eye on the prize! Nilla

My stall started at day 9 post-op, after losing 6 lbs. I have had patience, but it's running out soon. Today is day 5 of my stall. I took my measurements today and they haven't changed. Something has to happen soon or I will lose my positivity instead of lbs.. Nilla

Please tell me day 4 is better then day 2!
mrsNilla replied to ambergirl84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All good advice! I hope the pain is a bit better today. Move around, it really makes a huge difference. It makes the gas leave your body faster. If you feel weak when you are going to the airport, just request mobility service. Just don't mention surgery or they might start asking for fit to fly papers. Say you took a bad fall and need help getting to the gate and also help at your destination. That way you don't need to lift your suitcase and don't have to use up all your energy at the airport. Walk if you can, but this is a good service if you need it. It's free, but a small tip will be appreciated. You can also call and book the service in advance to make sure you get it. Nilla -
I had a week of pain at home, but it mostly due to the gas. I had a heat pad that helped with the pain and discomfort, so you might want to try that? The best remedy by far was the walking. I can't tell you how sceptical I was of it, but to my suprise it really helped a lot. Just go slow in the beginning, but do it often. Moving around will also help against extra scar tissue on the insides, as well as prevent blood clots. Good luck, you will see improvement every day! Nilla
