  1. How soon after your case manager appointment was surgery scheduled??? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I'm going through Richmond Kaiser Permanente and I have my first appointment with my surgeon tomorrow morning. I'm 95% set on sleeve surgery and feeling very weary of RNY. I'm worried my surgeon will suggest bypass because of my past with heart burn (however since starting my new diet it hasn't happened once). I also can't really have bypass because I have IBS (which has also gotten better with the new diet but still not 100%) so dumping syndrome would obviously be a huge problem for me. Any advice or insight or same experience??? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. @@shaylady08 it's a little intimidating walking in but Dr. Z is really nice. I thought I was going to cry and he expects it but I didn't lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. You'll also be on a diet plan that seems crazy at first but on my 2nd month is it so unbelievably easy once you get used to using a scale with your food. It drops weight QUICKLY! You'll think you're starving yourself at first but when you learn about your relationship with you'll realize you're not actually hungry it's something else Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App with food* Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. @@krissyfattofab This is my second time going through the process, the first time I chickened out after the orientation so I had to re enroll so my process is a little different. For you though, after the orientation you either speak with psych or surgeon it doesn't matter which is first. You have to pass psych and the surgeon will set your goal weight for before and after surgery. You'll need to lose about 10% of your weight now. I was 275.5 and I needed to lose 27lbs I've lost 31. After both those appts you'll have a meeting with the case manager that will schedule your surgery date. If you're a smoker you need to wait 3 months of being nicotine free before surgery. If you're not then just until you lose the weight and their next available appt. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. @@shaylady08 most don't get along with her, I've even raised my voice at her over the phone. She's not everyone's cup of tea but don't let that discourage you. You only see her once or twice throughout this whole journey Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Birth Control

Mirena is okay, that's what I'm on. They don't want you taking the pills because you might absorb any of that pill with your new stomach. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. @@shaylady08 You will learn all about that tomorrow at your orientation. Why do you want the bypass over the sleeve??? The sleeve is just at great and that's the only one I have considered. I have IBS so bypass would be terrible for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. It's 4 hours long so be prepared for that lol however it went by quickly for me because I was so interested. I was reactivating and have gone through orientation before so I knew most of what they were saying but I was still intrigued. You will get weighed and then a surgeon will speak and show video of the surgery, as well as Dr. Z (psych), and Liz the case manager who is also taking over for the dietician while she's on maternity leave
  10. My orientation was on a Thursday. I think I remember the dietician saying Orientations are on Thursdays Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I'm going to Ireland in two weeks for 10 days and I'm concerned my diet is going to go down the toilet while I'm there. I've already lost 23 lbs on Kaisers program diet but I'm doubting whether I'll be able to follow it in another country. My willpower is no problem at this point but I'm concerned with how many times I'll have to improvise and eat something that isn't exactly in my diet plan or I'll end up eating more than the 3oz of Protein. Any advice??? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I have my first meeting with my surgeon two days after I get back Aahhh!!!! Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. Thank you @@shaylady08!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  15. The psychologist of my program and all the doctors in it are DISGUSTED with weight watchers. Your doctor was an ass and I'm glad you switched Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I was the same height/weight/BMI as you when I started this process. I'm obese but I carry myself well so other people don't really think of me as being unhealthy. It's not until I told my boyfriend how much I weighed that he realized I needed this surgery. I'm down 23 lbs and my BMI is at 40 now. The people around you will start to get it sooner or later. If they don't then just keep knowing in your head that you DO need this. Don't let them feed your ego because that's when you'll start to agree with them and fall down this path again. It started to happen to me last week and I caught it really quick and I'm back. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. I was reactivating into the program so the process for me was a tiny bit different. I got my referral July 13. I had a health education class July 27 that covered general details about bariatric surgery and the program. After that you need to talk to doc again and say you're interested they then refer you into the program. August 4 was my orientation (4 hours long!!!!!) This where they weigh you and only this weight and their scale will be the one that matters. Since I'm reactivating I had to take 4 bariatric lifestyle class (extremely helpful). They are every Wednesday. On my 4th class day I called to schedule my psych eval, I was SO lucky I called when I did because it was either the next day September 8 or all the way until October 4, I took the 9/8 because I would be on a trip for the next available appt. Dr. Z (psych) cleared me and scheduled me for my surgeon appt w/ Dr. Mostaedi October 11 (where I'll get my goal weight) I've already lost 23lbs so that must be why Dr. Z cleared me quickly. I have to wait till December for surgery because of school but I would have to wait anyway because I was a vaper. If you are a smoker you will have to be 3 months nicotine free before surgery. If I wasn't a vaper and didn't have school I would probably be having this surgery in October.
  18. I can't really attend that support group because I have a math class at that time. So I'll have to find some day where I don't mind missing my difficult math to stay for group lol! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. Hi! Sept 7 is my last bariatric lifestyle class! Next appt is psych! Anyone know what Dr.Z is expecting of us??? Also I HATE vegetables and I know Dr.Z freaks about us "hating" food. Maybe there's an emotional connection but I've tried almost all and I can't stand any. I refuse to force myself to eat something I don't like, if I did I would quit this diet all together.
  20. I'm going through the process there as well. Sept 7 is my last bariatric lifestyle class, then an appt with Dr. Z. Do you need to bring a food log to his and the surgeon and the case manager? Also I kind of got into it with the case manager lol I was extremely mad that these bariatric classes are only on wednesdays from 3-5. I have actual school during that time, in fact it's a pilates class. So basically I'm missing an intense workout for these classes but luckily my pilates teacher is very understanding Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. With Kaiser I believe it's a 10% weight loss. So for me I started at 275.5 so I need to lose 27 pounds. I'm at 19.9 pounds loss since 8/4/16 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Kaiser makes you quit, and you will get tested for Nicotine the day of surgery if you have more than a certain amount your surgery will be canceled. Normal non smoking patients get a 2-4 month timeline while smoker get a 4-6 timeline. For them this whole process is about living a a healthier life. Also the big issue is the increase of chance for ulcers in your new pouch.
