the good, the bad, the ugly

Hi there. I am three weeks postop. The first day I had a friend with me but really wasn't even necessary. I was pretty sore and had a lot of gas pain but it wasn't that bad. I did take pain meds pretty regularly that day. I went back to work the next day. Which for me is at a computer in my home. Three days postop I went on a 14 hour car ride where I ran around non stop with family for a week and then went back home. So basically, It really depends on you and your body. Good luck
  2. Alrighty, does anyone think it would be absolutely horrible to have a little ice cream once in a while? For instance, today, I have only had around 400 calories. It's 7:30 at night and my family is going to have some ice cream. I could have a half cup of ice cream for less than 200 calories. And then not eat anything else today. Of course I know it defeats the whole purpose of the band but that's why I say once in a while. Thoughts anyone?

    Ice Cream!!!

Thank you all for replying. I am also well awaire that the amount of calories I had That day were not enough. You don't live life as an over weight person without learning the rules. Im sure all of have had a day now and then that we eat either too little or of course too much. Please don't assume that I think I can lose weight eating that little. It was a sanpshot of one day. As far as the ice cream goes. It was quite yummy thank you very much. And I will probably do it again some day

    Ice Cream!!!

Just one of those days. Had yogurt with fruit for breakfast then our lunch after church took forever to cook so it turned into dinner. Normally I'm averaging around 700 calories a day

    Ice Cream!!!

Thank you for your thoughts. I feel a little better and not so guilty. I was really stressing that.

    Can't give up COFFEE!

My doc says coffee is absolutely fine. He also says that caffeine is an appetite suppressant so even better.
  7. I was banded on the 3/19. I have only lost 8 pounds and that all the first week. Actually a bit frustrated. I know its about healing now but most people seem to lose more at this starting point. I just hope it's not a sign of things to come

    4 oz Not enough

My doc says 3-4oz of protein and a half cup of veggies per meal. Im only 2 1/2 weeks post op and I can't really eat that much per meal yet, but I get hungry pretty quickly. Four weeks until my first fill.
  9. Alright, I'm a little concerned. The sample menu's my Dr gave me has total daily calories of about 500-700 calories. I was always told that eating this little stops the metabolism. I've been eating like this (Im on regular food now) and Im starving!!!! I lost nine pounds week one and nothing since (It's only week two and a half). Im just afraid that I'm hurting myself by not eating enough. Thoughts anyone? Thanks:confused:
  10. I had a friend stay with me day of surgery. I was alone after that while my husband worked. My doc did prescribe vicadin (pills not liquid) but stated that most of his patients are fine with just ibuprophen. I also went on a 14 hour car trip and spent a week running around with family three days after surgery. Of course I was exhausted and sore when I got home. I think it depends on you indivitually. But most seem to be alright after a day or two.
  11. I am two weeks and two days out. My doc has starts regular food after the second week so Im on regulars now. My problem is that I'm absolutely starving. I'm eating my really small meals even though I know I could eat more. I did cheat and eat a really yummy cookie once. Oh hurry up fill before I eat the fridge!!!!!!
  12. I had surgery on the 19th. I was doing really well until two days ago. All of a sudden Im having thick yellow drainage from one of my incisions and it seems as though my pain level has gone up. I was also running a low grade temp yesterday. Anyone else had anything like this?

    Learned a Lesson

My doc has scrambled eggs on the soft foods week two. I had some and didn't have any trouble but I only ate literally like 4 small bites and chewed like crazy.

4 weeks post op, hungry and not losing

I was banded on the 19th and had to leave town three days later for my moms memorial service. I did pretty well I think. I followed my doctors orders for the first four days or so then sort of slid in a few mushy foods. I wasn't due to eat full liquids for a few more days. However, I did fine with it and have had no pain. I was only able to eat a couple of bites and they went down just fine. I had mashed potatoes a few times and even some scrambled eggs. Both are on my Dr's list of acceptable after the second week. How will I know if I did damage by eating those things a little early?
  15. Well here I am, just banded on Wendsday. Tomorrow morning my family and I leave for a 14 hour car trip. My mother passed away in December and due to circumstances we had to wait until now for a memorial service. I am very stressed and nervous. First of all, as I'm sure you all know, there is no better excuse to eat garbage than when on the road. Now combine that with emotional eating and I'm in trouble. Let's also throw on top of it the Easter bbq my family is having while we are in town. I'm already feeling very hungry and worry about how I'll do with this liquid thing during all of this. I could really use some words of support as I deal with this. Thanks
  16. My doctor has me on full liquids until wednesday and then soft for a week. I defanitely won't eat anything I shouldn't. I'm too scared of hurting myself. It is just very hard to do these things that would normally revolve around food. Especially at such a tough time. Maybe I should invest in nose clips so I can't smell the burgers and fries my people will be hogging down in the car  My whole family knows about the surgery and are very supportive and already asking what they should have in the house for me while were there. It should be interesting.
  17. Whewww.. It's done. I was banded this morning. I'm feeling alright. Alot of gas pain and soreness. However, I was wondering if anyone else experienced tingeling in face, arms and legs. It is similar to if you were to hyperventelate?

    Banded this morning

Thanks everyone. Yes the tingeling went away by this morning. Still very sore though. Hopefully that will get better soon.

    how long in the hospital?

I had surgery at 7:30 this morning and was home by 10:30 this morning. I left straight from recovery. I think this is very patient specific. I almost had to go back into surgery to check on some severe pain but it subsided and home I went. Pain from gas has been the worste of it other than the afore mentioned severe pain that seems to have been some spasms. Talk to your doctor if your uncomfortable. This procedure is so darn expensive and usually a one night hospital stay is included in the charge regardless if you use it.
  20. Hi, congrads on getting banded. I was banded this morning and came home straight from recovery!!! Just wondering if you have experienced a tingling sensation in face, or arms and legs? I have and havn't heard of anyone having anything like that. How is the gas pain for you on day two. It's been pretty bad for me so far and would love to hear that it gets much better the second day. Again, congrads and Thanks

    Surgery Tomorrow AAAHHH

Thanks for the good wishes. I know that I have to do this. It's just a little stressful with it happening so fast and now it's here. EEEKKK. I'll get through it though and in seven short years it will be all paid for  But I'll be much healthier and happier.......
  22. I am so nervous and apprehensive. I am self pay so having this surgery is a huge financial burdon on my family. However, they insist that they are willing to sacrafice for me. That is a gigantic responsibility. I am also nervous about procedure itself and afraid of failure. I'm sure these are just presurgery jitters but someone please tell me it's worth it before I back out!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. I am scheduled the 19th for my surgery. I'm worried because I just did my class with the dietician a couple of days ago and she stated that if you eat too much fat before surgery there could be too much fat around you liver and the surgery would not be completed. Now, I only have a week to go and was not put on any preop diet. I can be very good from now until then but I'm afraid that it could be too late as I didn't have much prep time for this thing. I'm also self pay. I don't want to pay $16500 to find out that the procedure wasnt' done as I can't afford to do it again. Any suggestions or thoughts would be helpful.:huh2:

    Surgery next week and worried

Thanks for the advise. I feel a little better hearing that a week is long enough for the preop diet. I will be doing very little fat and probably a lot of protein drinks until the surgery. Again, thanks for all the quick responses.
  25. Wow!! I decided to look into doing the lapband just recently. My pcp suggested speaking to a surgeon who specializes in it and I had an appointment the next day. Im self pay so there are no insurance hurdles to jump. By the end of the two hour appt I had surgery scheduled for the 19th!!! I have two weeks to get everything done. My psych eval is tomorrow and next week I see the nutritionalist. Im very excited. My BMI is 43 right now. I have severe back problems and also have to see a spinal surgeon. Hopefully after the surgery and the weight starts coming off the back problem will resolve. My biggest concern now is that I have a trip planned for three days after the surgery. I can't change it as it is a memorial for my mom who passed away in December. It should be quite an experience. :rolleyes2:
