  1. PB means productive burp...it is revisiting your food all over again :tea: It happens with this type of surgery, mostly after you have had fills I think than before. I was banded a week ago and have had no incidence of this. I wish you good luck on your band journey. Take time and read everything on here and ask questions and you will be well informed.

    first consult tomorrow

I felt the real interview came from the pyschiatrist, as well it should. I was interested in my surgeon I think even more so than he was in me. I wanted to be sure I liked him, and one look at his jolly face and I knew I would....and I did. I think he is wonderful, as I'm sure many of us think our surgeons are. When I met with him I had been approved for the surgery, so meeting him was simply the icing on the cake. Anesthesiology, nurtrition and the surgeon were all met in the same day and all went well, except for the constant delays in my surgery that were no fault of his. These were things that happened unexpectantly to me. Good luck and don't be nervous.

    Weird thing happened

I was banded on July 18 and Medicare requires you spend the night in the hospital. I'm glad I did because we had a 3 hr. drive in front of us....but I didn't get any sleep. Vanderbilt is super busy with being a teaching hospital as well and I had interns in all night long.... I had a wonderful experience. To your surgeon's credit they told you what happened, and some surgeons may have covered it up. The fact is now you have a band that is good and that's what is the important thing. Probably this happens more than we know. The girl next to me in recovery woke up sick to her stomach and I had no nausea at all. I felt fine except for the port pain, which is all but gone now. All in all it was a positive experience that I hope just keeps getting better.

    Weird thing happened

I also had my surgery on the 18th and have no trouble drinking or eating. I guess everyone is different. I had no fill put in at the time of surgery so don't have the restriction some have. It is perfectly normal. I wish you the best. Keep me posted.

    Banda Gastrica En Espa?ol

If everyone speaks perfect English why aren't we speaking it? I took Spanish in high school but have forgotten more than I learned. Why communicate on the forum in Spanish if you speak perfect English.
  6. I found my visits with my nutritionist and psychiatrist a big help. I learned that "junk food" seems to travel through the band with absolutely no problem. The band is merely a tool to help you make better food choices. It doesn't carry any magical ingredient that will make you not want chocolate..that I know of anyway. This has got to be something you decide for yourself. I have only been banded for a week and am absolutely no authority on the subject, but I'm learning hat wise food choices certainly do fill me up as much as any junk food would. Fortunately, or unfortunately, as the case may be ice cream is my vice. My surgeon suggested I take a tsp. with my medication and that has satisfied that craving and seems to be enough for me. I think telling people they can't have something makes you want it more. I've given up my carbonated drinks...gosh what more do they want from me  and that was the most difficult thing I've done. I'm now using Sensation in my Water and have myself convinced it tastes like soda pop. A lot of the band is in the mind. It will work well for you if you commit youself to following the rules, although at some point lots of people slip just once or twice. Tomorrow is always another day to get on track with. No one is perfect, but strive to eat the things that you know are good for you and will fill you up. Thankfully chocolate has never been my thing, so that doesn't bother me a all. Good luck to you.
  7. So very simple and unhealthy to eat around the band with chocolate, ice cream, etc. They go down very easily as do the expensive drinks like latte. What you need to learn is not to eat these things that cheat the band. You have to follow a guideline and teach yourself along the way what to eat and what to stay away from. You are getting a bunch of calories from junk, and you need to change your way of thinking and follow your bandster diet.
  8. I was on Carnation Instant Breakfast for the 2 weeks before my surgery. I also bought the Magic Bullet and absolutely love it. There is a lot of protein in the Carnation Instant Breakfast. You might want to give it a try.

    Chest pain

From someone who has been there and had 5-way-bypass surgery for my heart, I implore you, please don't take chest pain lightly. Make an appt. ASAP with your PCP and at least have an EKG which can rule out a significant amount of problems. Don't leave anything to chance please.

From What Tree Did you Fall?

Wow, I thought it said I fell from the Popular Tree , sadly it is the Poplar tree, which reminds me of something funny my grandson said. His dad was putting up a shed in the yard with a plywood floor and Dakota asked what is the floor made of? His dad said Plywood. Dakota scratched his little head and said, wow I never saw a Ply tree before. Out of the mouths of kids. We all got a good laugh out of this one as we explained how plywood was made (to the best of our ability)

    Yes, I'm a mess...

I think the flame-o-gram happened because I sent her a PM asking to be let alone and got a response "that I was a mess"....OK then, well like I said I kind of am. I personally took it private to avoid any conflict on the board which I thought was the right thing to do....apparently I'm not a good thinker either. Anyway, thanks all for your support and encouragement. I really appreciate this forum and all the info I get from it and the support of people.
  12. I let someone know on here by private message I didn't appreciate a response they gave on here to me, and in return I was told "I am a mess". Well perhaps there is a bit of truth to that statement. I have had 2 surgeries in 2 weeks, one on my knee and the other my lap-banding. The surgery on my knee has not helped and the pain is excruciating and I can't take anti-inflammatories, so I remain in pain. That is enough to make anyone kind of a "mess" but not enough to provoke an attack. I know I have to keep on walking and walking is extremely painful at this point. Down the road I need complete knee surgery, so I'm sure my disposition could be improved. I made a comment a couple weeks ago on a thread about being somewhat amazed that Mexican dr's. did not require a post-op fasting. I made this because I truly thought all dr's. required this. I apologize to anyone I offended. It was just that it took me by surprise. I try very hard to stay away from those very threads but this time I didn't realize it and didn't succeed. I have since played the offending party that thinks I'm a "mess" on ignore and she will remain there. I apologize to anyone else who thinks I'm not myself the last few days, but it is simply the knee pain and not the lap-banding that is making me somewhat grouchy. I'm not looking forward to another major surgery and was hoping this arthroscopic surgery for a torn medial meniscus would help....it didn't. I have met some wonderful friends on here, among them 3 Loves, Telly, Ceparano and many more, but there are those that attack at every given opportunity and to them I say please just don't talk to me. It won't hurt you and it won't hurt me. I hate putting anyone on ignore and it has only been one person. Most of you are great. Please know that and bear with me.
  13. I stick up for my son-in-law a lot. My daughter hates it, even if she is wrong she thinks I should take her part. I love them both dearly. You sound like you have the perfect marriage and I can't think of anyone that deserves it more my friend.

    a bitter pill

Out of my surgeon's mouth (Honest to God) was if you have to crush a pill mix it with a little ice cream. He truly said that, and I won't soon forget it. I think he means a spoonful, but hey a spoonful is better than none especially if it is Blueberry Cream Pie....Ummmmmmmmmm Mayfield's makes the best icecream. One more reason I can't leave Tennessee. If my daughter haden't been there when he said take it with ice cream...she never would have believed it.

    Yes, I'm a mess...

It hasen't even been a mo. since my knee surgery but I've had little relief. The first few days were OK because they put cortisone in it in the OR...made me feel better but it isn't. The other knee is now bothering me and I know it is arthritis and when I get home I will probably have to have these old knees replaced. I was hoping a thinner me would help some, but I have yet had time to find out if that will help or not. Thanks for all the positive thoughts. I'll just give this thing more time.
  16. No offense taken hon. I didn't even realize when I saw this post at the top of the forum it was for the lounge. In my first marriage my husband cheated all the time...I finally had enough of his drinking and cheating, went back to school to become a nurse, and got out of a horrible marriage. I later married the love of my life only to lose him in a horrible car accident 10 years ago. I am certainly not the one to give advise on cheating at all....heck I forget at 64 what sex is Cheating, lapband to RNY and colon cleansing are 3 subjects I'm through with.... :jaw: How's that for smiley faces. So sorry about your Dad hon. I do know first hand what the cheating feels like and my oldest daughter remembers well also.
  17. I am doing as instructed by my dr. and cutting pills and not crushing them. I take an extremely tiny pill, Toprol XL, which should never be crushed. He said if I have no problem taking them he has no problem. I guess everyone should listen to their own dr's. advise. I have also been moved to mushies. I hope that is alright that I'm doing as told. I still get very full with less than a cup of anything. I've had absolutely no problems so will continue along with the dr's. advice. It's what I'm paying him for. I'm sure not giving anymore about RNY to lap-band. The subject is closed for me. Donna, my entire post was of course not directed at you. I just wanted to set the record straight that as of today, this moment, I don't care what anyone chooses to have whether it is RNY, DS or lap-band. Whatever they choose is their personal choice and I should not even have given an opinion on it. It was a bad day...a bad day for a friend who had RNY...and I guess I voiced more than I should have. With that being said this subject is dropped for me, along with colon cleansings and cheating Take care. Have a great day.
  18. Thanks. It was meant in a joking manner. Forum is getting touchy these days. I was being funny.................it didn't work. The subject was in the new posts at the top of the page. How was I to know it was in "The Lounge". Relax guys. I wouldn't have touched the subject anyway as I'm without anyone to cheat on or with or whatever. Clearly, I'm not the one to give advise. I'm a re-incarnated virgin.
  19. It was a joke...sorry it didn't come across as such. This forum is getting a bit fiesty for me.

    What is your pirate name?

Blackspot Jeannie...this sounds a little like a spider of sorts, poisonous no doubt, so beware. My name isn't even Jeannie, but hey as pirates go the name is cool. If you see black spots it's me...and please don't step on me.
  21. This forum is turning into an advise column......where do these subjects come from. Are they from lapband patients? That was a simple statement with no explanation just I think I might cheat. Well, I've thought about pizza for awhile now too, but I'm not going to have any. Should I take this seriously or get back to the topics at hand on lap-banding?

    Puzzled..can eat anything

I a sticking to what the dr. said except for one little "glitch". I don't feel invincible at all, just lucky to be able to swallow pills. I am lucky I have a dr. and nursing staff that call every few days and answer all questions. I have been told to break the tablets if they are bigger than a pencil eraser and otherwise not worry. I will be seeing my dr. in a few weeks again and perhaps I will see a big difference after a fill. I'm kind of playing this day by day as I have no experience to go by. I hope you get to feeling lots better and your cruise goes well. My dr. merely switched me more to the mushy phase to see how it works out, although a cup is all I can eat even without a fill. I just feel like I coud eat most "anything" is what I meant, but my tummy won't hold more than a cup. Thanks for the good advice and lots of luck to you.

    July 2006 Band Crew

My banding experience was great...I was given this great cocktail in the OR and don't remember a thing until I woke up I have had absolutely no gas pain of any kind; can eat or drink anything...but I won't; take my pills without crushing them...doc said fine as long as they weren't time released, and except for a little port pain that is left I am truly wondering...do I really have a band??? I have no restriction yet, and don't get my first fill till the end of August. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Everything went wonderfully. Please don't even be nervous. It was a great experience. God Bless

Anyone ever done a 'colon cleanse' ?

I pray this subject is over with for discussion....I think it has been discussed to death, and the fact remains what is right for one person is not always right for another, so why argue it. Me, I loved my colon cleanse OK I didn't love it.....but it did the job. For others who despise the idea my great idea is Don't Do It, but don't be critical of those of us that did. OK, AMEN to the subject as Telly said it has been rehashed enough and continues to show up every day.
