You'll do great! Do what the docs say and get ready for a new life, my friend!

So ingot chopped on the 14th. I've been averaging 85oz of liquids and 75g of Protein via shakes. I've also been walking in chunks around the neighborhood and find myself racking up about 2 miles a day. That being said, I was in a lot of abdominal discomfort. I thought it was the CO2 they pumped me full of, but I hadn't had a "movement" since the night before surgery. 5 days. I hit up Amazon Prime Now for some broths and some Miralax. One dose, 4 hours, and I was a new man. I feel fantastic... And every morning I see a lower number in the scale. Every morning. 40 years of being obese and I can't wait to see where I am in 6 months, 12 months, etc. I can actually see a future where I'm not handicapped by my weight. It's... Man... Yeah it's dusty in here. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

(Besides my gf, of course) But seriously, I am coffee snob. I have the molecular diagram of caffeine tattooed on my arm, I have a dozen different machines/gadgets to make the sweet bean juice, and I roast my own. I take my coffee very seriously. Obviously I can't be slurping it down like a mad man during the first few weeks post-surgery because I need to stay hydrated (caffeine isn't exactly conducive to that), but how soon did you guys start swilling the go-go juice again?

Coffee... It's My One True Love

I broke out my Burundi Beans and my Aeropress this morning. I cannot tell you how magical that was... The Dilaudid probably enhanced it, but twonsips finally broke the "my bowels are taking a long siesta" thing and now, finally, I feel human. I knew my coffee would make all the difference in my recovery. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App -
Haha.. it does suck. Have you tried anything? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Colace lbut not getting any relief so I'm heading out for Milk of Mag or Miarlax. That's the vast majority of my discomfort. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Coffee... It's My One True Love

Don't sleep on the single origin beans from La Colombo. Todd Carmichael (Dangerous Grounds on Discovery) is a goofball, but the man roasts amazing beans. Seriously if you can find a bag of Geisha varietal that will change your life. I promise. -
As soon as I'm out of liquid stages I'll definitely be adding those noodles. I really wanted to add some chili oil, but I think that's pushing my luck. I can be patient!

Look, you can only drink so many Protein shakes, right? Well last night I stumbled upon a tub of red miso paste in the back of my fridge and heard the proverbial Chorus of Angels! 3/4 tablespoon of miso 1 tablespoon PB2 (plain) 10oz hot Water Whisk to dissolve the miso and PB2 and enjoy! I'd kill a man for some tofu and nori, but I'm still just 3 days out from surgery. Is it a replacement for a Proteins hake? of course not, but it does give you a bump of protein, a new flavor, and I've always fund miso to be so soothing.

September Sleevers rep'sent! My only complaint is that I wish my body would get on board with my desire to purge some poop. Oof... that sucks a lot!
-
The key is to walk, walk, walk. I had my sleeve on 9/14 and I've been walking as much as possible. The cramps are no joke and you've got to move around to get that gas reabsorbed into your tissue and dispelled. I've had no problems with stairs - my bedroom is on the second story of my house and it's not an issue. This morning I noticed a marked difference in the pain levels. I almost feel normal already and I'm sure that as soon as this Colace (and this double-shot latte I pulled and have been sipping on for the last hour) does its job, I'll be in a great deal less pain/discomfort!

Probably should have thought of that earlier, huh? It's 8am and I'm wallowing in the first cup of coffee I've had since surgery so I'm not all here, so to speak. Posted!

Right then... 24 hours past the chopsaw...

The worst part, for me so far is the gas pain. It hurts to stand up or sit down, but walking does help ease the pain. 3 days out and that's significantly improved. Take your freaking pain meds. Even if you don't think you need it. Do it. I've been sipping Water and watching footie all day with the occasional break to walk around the cul de sac. Now, the unpleasantness... The drain I had in had to be removed before leaving the hospital. No big deal, right? There were 23.5 INCHES of tubing in my gut that my nurse has to pull out. It'd going tonsuck if you have a drain. There's no way around it other than making sure your deep into the pain meds. It was... Unpleasant. -
Modern medication be is freaking awesome. Sure I'm sore like a mule kicked me in the chest a few weeks ago, but the magic Pain-Go-Buhbye is a dear friend of mine! All the anxiety I had was kind of laughable looking back on it. A couple of observations so far: 1) Grape popsicles taste salty now. Weird. 2) Bring lip balm 3) Ask about throat lozenges. My throat is killinge but lozenges weren't on my paper work so I'm Sol 4) Nurses laugh when they realize you're kidding when they walk in your room after surgery and you're holding the phone pretending to order Domino's. 5) Get off your arse and walk walk walk around the ward. 6) Don't slack on that spirometer. Now tondo this gi test and blow this popsicle stand!

Coffee... It's My One True Love

Yes! I cannot blaspheme the bean. And anyone who offers me a Geisha, that person just bought themselves a devotee, a disciple, a worshipper Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App -

That's my go to store for lattes and beans when I'm out of my home roasted. They are phenomenal and only about 5 minutes from my house. If you're downtown look for Alchemy on Broad near vcu - broad and goshen maybe? Easily the best preparation and mug in Richmond. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App -
Not going to lie - I'm a tad anxious. Of course, the Ativan helps a bit with that, but maybe the coffee isn't? I go into the hospital at 05:30 and into surgery at 07:45. Hopefully, by noon I'll be quasi-coherent and on the road to not grunting as much when I get out of a deep chair.

Caffeine - must it be gone forever?

That's probably the "plus" you should have led with. Talk about burying the lede. -

These words make my soul sing with joy. Ok, I MIGHT be over-exaggerating, but that's excellent info! Thanks! -
Caffeine - must it be gone forever?

I JUST posted this same question (basically) in the post-op forum. It's kind of a big deal to me... -
@@LipstickLady Just saw you're in Va. If you're anywhere near Richmond, you have to try Bon Chon for wings/boneless strips. Easily the best wings I've EVER had. They're addictive as hell. It's a Korean fast food franchise that batters their wings in a really light rice flour (I think) and then the glaze is like a lacquer. It's... *single tear* beautiful.

(Sounding like Homer Simpson) Mmmmm. Curry fries. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Even better... CURRY fries. Think amazing fries covered in a sweet and spicy curry gravy. I need a cold shower just thinking about them.

I'll be sitting at home with absolutely nothing to do... the updates will be frequent and verbose, I'm sure.

Let's go rock this sh-t, lady! Woot!

If by football you mean "soccer," then I'd go with pints of London Pride and curry fries. But... it'll be quite a long time before any of that passes my lips again.
