I wish I could say the same. When I decided I wanted the band, there was a huge argument (several actually) including him giving me every excuse in the book as to why I shouldn't have the surgery, finally, 6 months later, he agreed to support my decision. I have been banded 8 months and have lost 62 lbs and he has been really wonderful through it all. Then, last night, I wore a pair of jean shorts to the bowling alley and I had my knees propped up and he asked me to put my legs down. I had no idea why he would ask that, but I didn't like it at all, out of respect for him though, I did what he asked. So after we left, I asked him why he asked me to put my legs down and if anything was showing. He said that you could see my thighs and that guys will look if you give them a chance. I thought it was absolutely ridiculous that he wouldn't want anyone to see my thighs. I did have shorts on (not to short). I am hoping that this is not a precursor of what’s to come. He has never been the jealous type, but this really bothered me. Im not sure if I should bring it up again or not, or even what I would say if I did.

You know, I was really looking forward to meeting you the most, but you know what, not so much anymore. You obviously know plenty of people and don't have room for more. Good luck to ya.

Hi Robyn, thanks for responding. Dr. Malley does have monthly support groups, but I have never been to one, mostly because I work a regular schedule during the week and Saturday morning is my housecleaning time. I went to Dr. Hoen's (sp) seminar and that is where I learned about the lapband, but I found out that I could have it done $700.00 cheaper with Dr. Malley, so I ended up having him do my surgery, mostly to save myself money, but also because I actually know someone else who had it done by Dr. Malley about a year ago, so I liked that too, but the final string was the fact that because I was self pay, I did not have to go thru all of the pre-op stuff, except for some blood tests.

Hi, I saw this thread and was so glad to see people from my area. I am a 33 year old mother of two girls ages 12 and 7, I am married and live in Olathe and was banded by Dr. Malley on 12-15-06. To date, I have lost 57 lbs and have had no major issues to speak of besides the occasional heartburn, two overfills, three unfills and some heavy coughing at night when I was overfull. I absolutly love my band though and I know that I could not be where I am without it. I weighed 250 when I got my band and was at 193 this morning (have been for a couple days). I think that the hardest part for me about being overweight is that several years ago, I lost 80 lbs, but I was also newly divorced, terrified and bulemic. I lost the weight over a five month period and never admitted that I had a problem. Although I remarried at 145 lbs, I was only there for about five minutes before I packed back on all the weight plus some in a about a year and a half period. Although I was ashamed, embarrased and had a very low self esteem, I had managed to all but quit throwing up (after being caught a few times). I talked to my husband for about a year about getting the band. At first, he was very against it because he is not one that would elect to have voluntary surger, but slowly he started to accept the fact that I really wanted it and it would make me happy. The diagnosis of pre-diabetes also helped him to accept that surgery may be a good option for me. So, we qualified for a loan and I got banded. I have never regretted my decision and would love to meet and support others that have been or are on the same journey as me. By the way, I am no longer bulemic. Please let me know when you guys/girls plan to meet, I would love to meet you all. Doitfor4me

well i did go for the unfill and I feel better already. you all may want to know, while i was there, the nurse told me that she had two people in the past two weeks slip thier band because they would over fill, inflame thier innards, get complete unfills and then turn around and over fill again. just thought I would pass the info she gave me. it was a wake up call for me. thanks guys.

I have been having some problems with my band in the last month, but I must say that it has been mainly my fault. I had a fill a month and a half ago and I was pretty tight, barely getting much food down at all, but then, I went to see my doc 3 weeks later, had lost 8 lbs and was still feeling really tight. The doc asked me how often I was eating and I said I was munching every two or three hours still and so he decided to give me a small fill, and I let him. Low and behold, it was way to much and I couldn't even keep water down, which I kinda knew before I ever left the doc. office because when I took the drink of water, it gurgled immediatly in my throat. So then I went on vacation a couple of days later and it was terrible. Couldn'teat or drink anything. So I came back and before going home (lost another 4 lbs in less than a week), I went to the doc and got an unfill, he just took out what he had put in and told me to continue my previcid and mylanta. That was last Monday (the 1st), and not it's 7 days later and I am still unable to eat most solids, including cheese and pasta, milk, ect.. Ablsolutly no meat is staying down and I slime almost every time I eat and am occassionaly choking in my sleep (but not like I was before the frist unfill). My question is, am I doing something wrong, I try to eat slow, chew alot and not drink with meals, or am I just too tight. Any advise would be appreciated.

So - what's your status?
doinit4me replied to sleepyjean's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Married to my best friend (twice). Funny thing, we weren't best friends when we got married the first time, divorced 8 years later, and remarried one year after the divorce was final. I kept thinking, what are we doing? Turns out, God was showing us that we had taken each other for granted and just like he put us together, he could take us apart. It was a lesson in appreciation, love, patience, and faith. and I have never loved him more, and we have been married for a total of 13 years. -
Oh my gosh, thank you so much. Laughed so hard I darn ner peed my pants!

I was self pay and only paid 16,500 for all of the services listed above, as well as a year of fills thereafter.

I was banded on 12/15/05, and am also learning that the band was a lifestyle change that I wasn't quite ready for. However, I am glad that I have the band and am slowly, learning to work with it. I still have moments when I over do it, but I am learning with each stomach ache, that I have to change, it's a choice I have made. So, little by little, I am practicing the band rules. It's nice to know that someone else is experiencing the same trials as I am. My guess is that we have all struggled with our band at one point or another. I keep telling myself small changes, one day at a time and most of all, I get support from boards such as this. Best of luck to you all. God Bless.

Did you do a barium swallow after surgery?
doinit4me replied to Anwyn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the swallow and expected it to be much worse than it actually was. It was over in about 5 seconds. Shoot, I can do almost anything for that long. -

I feel sooo bloated! Is this gas? I have taken Malox and Gas X and doesn't seem to do much. I have also walked (alot due to shopping), and it only seems to get more intense. I was banded 12/15/05 and have been feeling extremely pregnant (like 12 months) since I have came home on Friday. I am otherwise feeling good. I have lost 13 lbs, and am unable to eat more than 1 to 2 oz. without feeling 15 months pregnant. Also, I have not had a BM since surgery. Not sure if that's normal or not but the nurse didn't seem overly concerned. I am scared to take a laxative because I don't want to start something I cant' stop. Any advise out there? Thanks so much.
-
Thank you all for your replies. I did call the nurse and she said I could take pretty much any kind of stool softner or laxative. So, of couse I got what was on sale, the Maximum Streanth Ex lax. I took it last night around 5:30 and now its 6:30 am the next day and still.... no go! The MOM sounds like a good idea, maybe I will give that a try. Also, I had luck creating my ticker, but not sure how to change it to refect weight loss. Im an IT Idiot! Anyway, ya'll are the best. Special thanks to Delarla, who no matter what she says, always seems to make me LOL! You always seem to make my day and you don't even know it. Pretty cool huh!

I feel like im losing my mind! Is this normal? All I can do is cry, I feel like im in a constant panic attack and although I quit smoking 4 months, 1 week and 5 days ago, I want to smoke like nobody’s business. My nerves are frazzled, my hands are shaky, and I would kill for a cheese stick right now! Did I mention it’s only 7:50 am and just started liquids today AND, I don’t have surgery until tomorrow? OMG. Im so excited, but I cannot even begin to express all the emotions I am feeling right now. Does everyone go thru this?

Thank you all so much. I am feeling lots better. Didn't even have to take a xanax haha. You guys are the best. I will post soon with the results.

Congrats on your band. Try to get a good nights sleep. I have no advice, as I am scheduled to be banded on 12/15/05. I do know however, that it can be scary to read all this stuff that "could" go wrong on here. Keep your head up and don't forget your reasons for wanting the band. For me it is because not getting banded, means definate and serious health complications in the not so distant future. Good luck to you. Nikki -

Hi, I went to a seminar at the same place. I have choose to go with Dr. Malley in Overland Park. He said that many of the RnY Patients end up getting banded because it has a more long term success rate. Yes, the weight loss is slower, however, since the band is adjustable, it has a higher rate of long term success. Hope that helps. NLS
