  1. I have lost 25 since the pre op and surgery, the remainder of what I have lost I had done before. I did not have any hunger at all for 2 weeks post op and then I finally stated to have some hunger, in the last couple of days I have really gotten hungry and am going to call for my 1st fill in the am. I was banded on 3/25 by Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. congrats on your loss too, 26 is great!!
  2. Hi pearlygirl, congrats on being banded and just wanted to stop by and let you know I loved what you wrote on the thread about what to say to people, love the idea of the myspace letter!!

  3. I went a little slow since I had no mushy phase in my post op, I think my first meal was refried beans with a sprinkle of mexican blend cheese ( mainly because I had seen others on this board use that as their first meal and it sounded so good after 3 weeks of liquids!!) as for the breads, I can eat it now but am not yet filled, but when I do eat it I have to be very aware of chewing it enough since I can really see how it is something that is a high risk of getting "stuck"
  4. no picture but christian louboutin black patent leather heels is my choice....
  5. blund, when she starts up with her negative comments, call her on it, say "why are you being so negative and unsupportive about my band?" If that does not work then tell her until you can keep your negative comments to yourself about my band, we will not be discussing my choice anymore. hope that helps!!

    question need a quick answer

it's your decision to ingest whatever you want, is there anyway you could cut out some of the cals though since 480 is alot, like maybe sugar free syrup (if it's a starbucks drink) or maybe a smaller size since I doubt that the smallest size has that many cals but if it does I'd like to know the rest of the nutritional info cause it can't be too good.if you go for the smaller size then you still get the taste and enjoyment out of it but not quite as much damage.

    Lowest airfare prices?

Hi Missy, I travel fairly frequently and even with all the comparing of different sites, I have consistantly found the best prices for my destinations at expedia, hope she gets a good deal, and best of luck to you!!
  8. Hey, I was reading a thread and read one of your posts about the scrubs, I too was so excited to go down and get rid of my bigger sizes, I got my eye on the smalls and I think it might just be attainable too, good luck to you and enjoy getting rid of the bigger sizes, I have been selling all my bigger scrubs on the unit and am loving the extra money (to buy the smaller ones!!)

  9. abby, i just read your blog about goodby to food, OMG I could have written it, I was banded 3/25 and it is an adjustment realizing what full really is, not bursting, realizing that I don't have to eat everything I want RIGHT now since there will be another meal in a few hours, realizing what head hunger is vs true hunger, the list goes on and on and on..... sometimes I open the fridge and just stare and think how much I want to eat (not that I would admit that to too many people) so just quick hello and know that you feel what others feel too, good luck with kaiser, if your denied keep pushing and appealing, sometimes if you push hard enough, they'll give you what you want just to shut you up but really who cares what the reason is as long as you get it right!!

BTW I love your avatar, my myspace is pink skull and crossbones so your's made me think of mine.

  10. hi losingjusme, just wanted to stop by and tell you good luck with your races, I'm doing my 3rd half marathon in october (i do the leukemia lymphoma nike womens marathon) and you can do anything you put your mind to, at my worst moments in the last races, all you have to say is just take 1 more step as a mantra and before you know that beautiful finish line is before your eyes and you realize what you've just accomplished!! so good luck to you, as long as you finish, you've won.

  11. it's your doctors decision as to which band he puts in, since you said you mentioned to them what you wanted but the doc leans toward the older band, you knew that going in and if you were not comfortable with the choice of bands you could have gone to another surgeon. clearly the band is working for you as your ticker says you've lost 22.5lbs, so I would not worry about the band the doc chose.
  12. try to have one of your Protein shakes, the carnation instant breakfasts taste good but are no comparison for an actual Protein shake, the carnation one might have 5 or 6 gms I think where as the other has 20-30gms usually, I think you'll find with the additional protein you'll feel far more satiated, also in the weeks post op, for at least the 1st week you will not be hungry at all, I was not hungry for 2 full weeks and would have to force myself to have some Soup or yogurt, I was on a liquid diet for 3 weeks post op, and it actually was far easier than I could have imagined. I was banded 3/25 by Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon, just take it 1 hour at a time.
  13. Hey, looking for a good protein option is UNJURY, you can order it online, I have the plain that can be mixed into anything, the chicken soup flavour which was surprisingly good, chocolate, very good, and vanilla yucky it was too fake tasting. You must be getting excited since it is only a couple of weeks away!! Each of the packets of unjury have 20gms I think. I had alot of popsicles, chicken broth, the protein shakes, slimfast optima is pretty good too, mixed with ice and milk in the blender, kind ice creamy tasting. My biggest issue was Igot the flu 4 days after surgery and thought I was dying so the week I was sick I hardly took any cals in except for popsicle and felt horrid but after that it got better, I also would have soup and blend in cottage cheese into tomato soup which really adds up the protein too. I hope these suggestions help!!

  14. hey just stopped by to see how're your doing, and see if you wanted to go to green lake one evening post work this week if of course it is not raining or snowing, i'm off till thursday, let me know if your interested.

    depressed! Need help!

Heidi, what your feeling is normal, since you feel like you could eat the food right through the tv you should call your doc's and see about getting a fill sooner rather than later, I know some doc's start them right at 4 weeks post op, mine is 6-8weeks out that they start them but I think am one of the lucky ones since I get full pretty quickly even with no fill in place as of yet. I lost 25lbs since my pre op diet and but right now the concern for you is healing not weight loss, I think that people think the weight will start falling off and disappointment ensues when that does not happen, once you start getting fills, it loss will start/ continue. You are in control of your care and if you think that you need the fill then push for it or ask for the do'c reasoning as to why not, you have to be an advocate for yourself since it is no one elses job. As for not gaining weight before going for a fill, I am aware of my cal's and making good nutritional choices, also being aware of real hunger vs head hunger, I have for sure had a few instances where I have eaten due to boredom or whatever and then said "hey, why did I just do that, I was not even hungry" but you just pay more attention the next time and correct the negative behavior that way. Hope this helps, congratulations on your 30lb weight loss already!! BTW, I was banded by Dr. Ortiz on march 25th.

    I think something is hung

David, I would assume that the Vitamin would have dissolved by now, I think that with the both the pain and the throwing up I would call my doc and discuss with them, could be that the fill is too much right now even though it is only 2 cc's. hope everything is ok, congratulations on the 22 down!!

    Scared!!!!

your only issue with ice cream (once your back on a regular diet) is the calories and fat and the fact that it will "slide" right through the band, I still eat it occ but 1/2 cup serving that I factor into the calories for the day, normal people eat ice cream and I am a normal person just eating a serving instead of the whole pint of B&J's.

    Surgery in Mexico

cosmos, everyone is really tired of your slamming all of mexico, and i hate to break it to you but there are places in this your precious USA that you can't drink the water too, so lose the holier than thou attitude and maybe find something else to do instead of changing your story every time you post on here, there are books you could read, or maybe go for a walk instead. I'm sure you'll find something criticizing to write back in response to me but whatever, get over yourself.

    I Have A Date!!

I had my surgery with dr ortiz on march 25th, I did a modified pre op diet that lasted for 2 weeks, I kept it at around 1100 cals because the 750 from shakes was no way going to work for someone who works 12hr nights at the hospital and some days being up for 20+ hours, I ate 3 meals a day and that was it, I became very aware of the mindless eating I had been doing very quickly, and drank lots of water and crystal light, by the end of the 2 weeks, I was down 15lbs, more than was required for my surgery. My meals would be plain oatmeal or yogurt with 1/4 cup granola, salad with lean protein and raspberries or an apple, and then a lean cuisine for dinner with more fruit, if i needed a sweet hit, I went with a diet pudding cup, and on my work nights I always got my starbucks coffee since it was not something I was willing to give up. Hope the pre op diet goes well and isn't too painful!!
  20. If you had a csect then you do not have to worry at all!! I had no discomfort at all post op, just the gas which is fixed by walking walking walking but I will say that pre op I did and do exercise etc and have pretty strong abs but I have read people say that it feels like they have just done 675 crunches, I did not take any pain meds the day of surg, then i did take some prior to flying home but otherwise that was it for me. It should not affect you taking care of your baby, I have to lift my old dog onto the bed since she cannot jump and that was not a problem, she weighs 50lbs, front legs first then back end up onto the bed. when is your surgery scheduled for? I would recomend having all your post op food stuffs pre bought, I did that and it made a huge difference just knowing that I did not have to leave my house for any reason if I was not up to it.

  21. Hi Shannon, I had the band done march 25th in mexico with dr. ortiz, very good experience, I finally got to start eating real food this week as he is pretty conservative and we stay on full liquids for 3 weeks post op, since starting my pre op diet, I have lost 25lbs but figure I will hover around here at my current weight till I get my fills, I had also lost some weight prior to the preop diet, so I am actually down 59 so far. The part I am finding the most difficult is not being able to drink with my meals.

  22. hey shannon, i too am a nurse from canada currently living in the US asa traveler, good luck to you on the begining of your journey, I think the band is a very effective tool.

    Any one in NW WA

hey neatobandito, i'm in seattle too, was banded on 3/25 in mexico as a self pay, good luck to you on the begining of your journey!!
  24. I am from Quebec but have worked all over the US as a travel nurse, everywhere from NH to Alaska, currently I am in Seattle. I love the 32week babies, they are just in that perfect age range in the NI, usually not real sick so fun to hold and snuggle with, which sometimes reminds us of exactly why we do our jobs. I was banded March 25th by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico, it was a fine exp. aside from the fact that I got the flu a few days after surgery but surgery or mexico had nothing to do with my getting sick. So far it is a has been a good exp. I just started to eat real food again and that was so exciting since we are on liquids for 3 weeks post op.

  25. I'm an N-ICU nurse and I only took a few days off, so I think if you sit at a desk all day, a week off should be more than adequate.
