    Thankful!

I just have to say, I am thankful everyday that I was able to have the VSG! For over 30 years I struggled with weight issues. Each "diet" attempt I would lose approximately 15 pounds each time through painstaking effort. Then I would regain that and more. Eventually gaining to 253. At 5'3" that was not a good thing! The sleeve has enabled me for the first time to consistently lose. 10 months out I am 107 lbs down! This is not an "easy fix". As time goes along I am able to eat larger volumes without getting uncomfortable. I have slipped and eaten cake and cookies a few times. The mental challenge is still there. But the sleeve helps me to put the brakes on before I binge. I am still miserable if I overeat! For those of you at the beginning of your journey - hang in there! I think you'll find it was well worth it! Cake doesn't taste nearly as good as getting into a size 12 feels!!!
  2. Surgeon indicates being a "former smoker" makes it likely a sleeve would result in chronic acid reflux; and a RNY would result in an ulcer. Has anyone else been told this?
  3. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Incredible results!!!

    I don't want to weigh!

I can relate! I can tell my clothes are considerably looser. My Dr. scale said I'd only lost 5 lbs in the one week since surgery. I am, depressed! I see so many saying they have lost 10 or more lbs, or a lb a day since surgery. I've eaten stuff I shouldn't eat since I figured out my loss is so little. I am angry with myself. I ate a cookie and was ill for several hours following.

    Scare and Confused

Girl, your family doesn't understand how you feel. I have struggled with weight, my whole adult life. Not everyone can do it without the tool of surgery. I have lost and regained well over 100 lbs. My knees and feet hurt daily. There are few if any "cute" clothes for me. My blood pressure is controlled with pills. I am now on insulin. I am determined to reduce to a normal weight, and be healthy and active. Have you ever wanted to ride a ride at the fair, but been afraid the safety latch wouldn't close, or you might put the ride in danger? Every time I have flown in the last 5 years I have had to ask for an extender for the safety belt. I am sick of physically and psychologically feeling like this! I am determined to get healthy for me! Don't wait as long as I did. My surgery is tomorrow 11/22. We push ourselves to give to our children, family, spouse/mate, and our employer. Don't we deserve the same level of commitment and care? Make the decision that is right for you!!! Wishing you smooth sailing and happy days!

How much weight loss in 2wks?

They will notice, if they haven't already. Some people I find are genuinely supportive and encouraging. Some harbor thoughts that we have taken "the easy way out". Boy are they mis-informed. I won't waste my energy trying to educate them. Some literally don't want others to succeed. That is their problem not ours! Surround yourself with positive people. We must do this for ourselves. When I break the 200 barrier, I will celebrate! My goal is 150 and my stretch goal is 135. I am doing this for me. I encourage you to do the same. When we are healthy and active we can smile at ourselves and know, we succeeded. Not only us, but our family, loved ones and everyone around us gets a benefit from our health and positive outlook! Hang in there!!!
  8. My day is the 22nd also! It is finally here There are days I wondered if it would ever here. My Dr. had me on 2 Protein shakes and a small meal (3 oz meat and sm serving low carb veggies) for last two weeks. Today I am restricted to clear liquids only. Glad I didn't have 2 weeks of clear liquids! Today is also bowel cleanse. Joy! Wishing you all the very best! Will lift you up in prayer. I am excited to have this opportunity to have this surgery, gaining a tool to once and for all reduce my weight to a healthy level, be active and live a full life. And yes, I'm nervous too. food, has been my "go to " activity when I have been stressed, sad, tired, etc. I have done well over the past 5 months. With this tool, I plan to permanently alter my coping mechanisms to meet my real needs, not just stuff them down with food. Just being honest. Praying for health and happiness for each of you!
  9. 50 lb loss in such a short time is terrific progress! I'm sorry you are having a hard time right now, but I really want to encourage you to hang in there. You are a beautiful young woman. As the pounds continue to fall away, I think you are going to be happy you made this decision. You have taken a positive step to health, activity and longevity!
  10. Awesome results! You should be proud of your achievement! @@boosh10 hubby told me it was about one hour (don't know cuz i was asleep at the time ) @@Aranks mentioned her gall bladder was taken out too - causing more surgery time many people also have a hernia removed if you are having anything like above removed also, it will take longer good luck kathy

    Feeling defeated.

After reading your posts and the replies, I can't help wondering if there isn't a correlation between the shape we are in and all of the emotional manipulation many of us have encountered in our lives. Well, today is a new day! We are taking charge of our health and lives! We are making a decision to use a tool and a deep personal commitment to be healthy, trim and active for the remainder of our lives. I have to agree with Vinasu's comment, do nothing to compromise your health! You come first in this journey! You've got a team of sleevers behind you all the way! It's seriously the worst feeling when the people who you would think would support you doesn't. Don't don't apologize at all. I feel the same way! Sent from my SM-G930W8 using the BariatricPal App
  12. You look amazing! Thanks for being an inspiration!

    November sleevers?

I'm November 22 also! Happy to find someone with the same date. If I find another Nov group, I'll be sure to let you know. Hope you are as excited as I am. I'm having Thanksgiving for my family early in the month so I won't feel guilty about not cooking a banquet right after the surgery. I'm thinking we wont be feeling hungry on 11/24.

    November sleevers?

I'm at a BMI of 38 now. If I lose 10 more lbs during the liquid pre surgery phase, I'm nervous my ins won't cover the surgery.
