  1. I agree with everything said. I am 61 and on average have been on a diet every 3 years from the age of 20 (though had given up at about age 50). I was at goal (around 125) probably at least 5 times. I always regained and each time added more weight. This time I knew I had to do something different: I needed to have an additional tool. Overall this has been the best decision I ever made because not only have I lost the weight but am eating very differently and I am in great health (had high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol and was pre-diabetic prior to surgery). And I have built-in portion control!

    Have to make yourself eat

I was on a puréed diet for the first 8 weeks and I was so sick of it by then - I just wanted to chew something! But I followed the plan laid out by my surgeon and ate my meals even though I was getting sick of them. Looking for new food ideas on discussion boards like this or others did help a bit... Regardless, you do get to real food in not that long a period and in some ways I think this early discipline helps prepare you to enjoy the much smaller portions and different choices as compared to pre-surgery.
  3. Inspiring and just what I need to know! I am just hitting goal now and am about the same size as you.
  4. Exactly - just be honest and tell your story. I was just past my 61 when I had my surgery in March. I am thrilled with the results 6 months later.
