    New Orleans and Surrounding Area!!!!

I was banded by Dr. Treen in April of 2009. Sad to say I can't seen to get these last 15 lbs. off. I've lost 70 lbs so far. Of course, it would help if I only ate the proper foods. I don't eat a lot anymore , but I still eat the wrong foods at times. Just have to get my head in the right place again. In 2012 I had 2 colon surgeries and neck surgery. I'm hoping to get motivated by finding friends here. Thanks for listening !

    New Orleans and Surrounding Area!!!!

Hi Everyone, I live in Slidell and was banded by Dr. Treen on April 1. Happy to see that there are several of Dr. Treen's people are posting here. I have had several problems but not huge. Hair has been falling out for the past several weeks but Michelle says it happen to Karen and will stop at some point. Kinda disturbing but I feel better since I spoke to her yesterday. Kinda got off track but doing much better now. Even joined a gym . When is the next support meeting???? Happy to find you all, Abby
  9. Same thing happened to me. Banded 4/1, first fill 5/1 2cc. Than 3 wks later they put in another cc. So, I'm at 3 in a 4cc band. Can't eat much at all, even soft stuff. Think we may be over filled. Sure hurts when I try to eat.

    Have a question!

Hi, I have a question. Do you all think its safe to take NSAIDS after Lap Band surgery. I've been on one for the past 10 years because of back problems. My doc's nurse says its ok after lap band surgery. But, I've read , in the info from the company Inamed, that makes the band, that you should not take them because it can cause erosion in the stomach. The nurse said that gastric bypass people can't take them because they only have a small stomach and they can cause ulsers. What do you all think. I'm a self pay person for my surgery and trying to follow everything to the letter. Thanks in advance Abby

    Not loosing

Morning Everyone, I'm having a bit of a problem with my post surgery diet. I was banded 5/1 and had my first fill on 6/1. When I had my first fill they told me to pretty much stick to a low carb diet. I know I can loose weight with that but I had real trouble sticking to that before surgery. I do fine for a couple of weeks then it's all over. Not sure that's a model diet for the rest of my life. Don't think I've lost much weight since my fill. My doc put 2cc in my 4 cc band. I have'nt been keeping a journal to this point. Do you guys keep a journal? Exactly what are you all eating for your meals. I use to do well keeping track of points with Weight Watchers. Wonder if thats an option now. With that you can eat just about anything as long as you count points. Just not sure what to do at this point. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'm 20lbs less than I was on 5/1. That's not bad but nothing in the past 2 weeks. Abby

    Any Westbankers

Hi Happy to find this part of Lapbandtalk. I'm from Slidell. I was banded on April 1 by Dr. Treen on the Westbank. He did my first fill on May 1. He put 2cc in my 4cc band. So far everything has gone really well. I've lost 18 lbs. Not sure if that's good or not. They seemed happy when I weighed in. I'm eating most of the foods I'm supposed to eat with no problem as long and I don't eat too fast and keep my bites very small. If I eat too fast, I can feel the food in the middle of my chest. Didn't realize that the top part of the stomach is so high in the body. Anyway, I'm really happy with Dr. Treen and his staff. Karen and Michelle have been so sweet and helpful. Let's all keep in touch. Abby
  13. Sounds like you need to get into the second program. I don't understand these people; if it was easy to loose weight, we would not have considered Lapband in the first place. I was a self pay so I didn't have to jump through alot of hoops in the end. I did go through 5 months of stuff with Cigna trying to get approved. I was turned down after about $400 worth of test and 5 meetings with a theripist. Once that was all done and I decided to pay for the surgery myself, it was clear sailing. I'm thrilled I had it done. I'm 5 weeks post op and I've lost 18 lbs. Feeling really good. Good luck and keep posting. Abby

    the "ker-plunk" feeling

Happens to me alot. I just have to slow down and take smaller bites. It sure can cause discomfort in the middle of my chest. Detemined to stay with solid foods since that 's what we are suppose to be eating at this point. I'm one month and a few days post op. Feeling great otherwise. Happy that I'm not throwing up at all.
  15. Hay, Just wanted to let everyone know that if you are looking for a doc in Southern Louisiana, Dr David Treen is wonderful. He is at West Jefferson hospital on the West band of New Orleans. My surgery went wonderfully and the after care and program is super. They are trying to become a center of excellence so they need to increse the number of surgeries. At this time he is doing the surgery $10,000. Couldn't be more happy that I choose him.

    Horrifying First Fill

I was banded on April 1 and had my first fill on May 1; yesterday. I'm happy to tell you all that it was not bad at all. Two minutes and he was done. Hardly felt anything. He put in 2 cc's in my 4 cc band. I can't understand how some people have over 4 or 5 fills. I'm half way there with only 1 fill. Can you all explain. Thanks in advance, Abby

    Self-pay surprises?

Morning, I'm a self pay like you all and everything, including post op test, was included in my $10,000. Sounds like I may have gotten a deal down here in Louisiana on the price of the surgery. My doctor, Dr. David Treen, is simply wonderful. They have a great after surgery program as well. That is something to really look at when deciding where to have the surgery. We all need good support after the surgery. Good luck and let us know how things are going for us. I went through 6 months of pure hell doing what my ins company said I had to do to quilify. At the end, they turned me down. I appealed and got turned down again. Abby
  18. Oh, that last post was meant for Leoyne
  19. wow, that 's a great weight loss. Amost 40 lbs. Here I am at only 16. I didn't loose too much pre surgery cause I only did liquids for 2 days and clear liquids for 2 days. They said I didn't have to have a longer pre surgery diet cause I have under 100 lbs to loose. Keep on doing what you're doing, it's working. I feel wonderful as well; this surgery has been a breeze so far. I plan to continue doing everything to the letter. This was a big investment for me. Cigna denied me twice after 6 months of doing all that they said I had to do to quilify. It was a hard 6 months and very disappointing at the end. Once I decided to pay for it myself, I was thrilled. Looking forward to my first fill on May 1. Keep in touch. Abby
  20. Yes, we can keep in touch. Just wondering, my doc has me pretty much eating low carb, high protein. That's really hard for me. I tried that diet many times and failed before I got my band. You can loose weight doing that but I can never stick with it more than a few weeks. Then, when I would start eating carbs again, the weight would come right back. Are they pushing low carb for you at this point?? My email address is abbyduvic@yahoo.com I get confused with this board as well. I've never done too much of this so it doesn't take much to confused me. Do email anytime.
  21. Hi, I was banded on April 1 so we are close in that respect. I've lost 16 lbs. Did you expect to loose more? I kinda thought I would. Of course if I can get to a 20 lbs loss the first month, that really would'nt be bad at all. No, I have not experienced the pain you are talking about. I'd give your doc a call just to be safe. Twice since my surgery I tried to swallow something and it seems to be stuck on the way down to the tum. The pain was actually in the middle of my boobs. Strange. I will ask about it when I go in for my first fill on May 1. When will your first one be? I get pretty hungry and I am eating more than one half cup of food per meal. From what I hear on this board, that's pretty normal. Good luck and keep in touch, Abby

    Grr. Email etiquette.

Please excuse me, I'm new here and should keep my comments to myself. I did not realize there was such a section here at Lap band Talk. I tend to look for informative, upbeat, and positive information when I can make time to visit forums like this. My mistake; again please excuse me!

    Grr. Email etiquette.

I thought this was a where people come to talk about land band issues. What does this have to do with that??

    Have a question!

I see what you mean about the doc's take on this question. May call and talk to someone at Inamed (people who make my band) tomorrow. What kind of band do you have? Just wondering. In the US I think there are only two kinda available. Something called Realize and the one I have.

    Have a question!

Thanks so much, would appreciate any info about this that I can get.. Doesn't seem like this would be that difficult. Either they can harm the tum or not. Right?!
