    Checklist

my insurance requires a 6 month supervised diet before you can even submit for approval. i have to go see either my surgeon or my PCP once a month for 6 months. i think its mainly about the waiting game and insurance trying to dissuade people from having the surgery so they don't have to pay. also if you gain weight during the 6 months then they can say "well obviously you are not trying hard enough and will never be able to do it post op"

    Need help, quick!

the pre op diet is more used to shrink the liver than lose weight. unless you are severely overweight (think 500-600 pounds) then you need to lose weight to make the surgery and anesthesia safer. if you are not that heavy then the pre op diet is for liver shrinking so the surgeon doesn't have to manipulate it as much. once you have been approved for surgery then usually your surgeon doesn't require a specific amount of weight loss, they just have to know that you are going to do your part after the surgery. again, ideally if you're following the diet then you should lose weight but the main goal is to shrink the liver. best of luck! i can't even submit to insurance until jan 2017 i have to do the 6 month physician supervised diet first and i just started month 2

Protein issues... i could just cry :(

Just wanted to post this for people in the future... If you go to the premier Protein website you can buy single bottles in each flavor for $2.79 each. When you subscribe you get 10% off your first order. I think I'll do this to try out the flavors! Thank goodness, I just can't justify spending $30-$40 on something that I might hate. You can get 3 single bottles for under $10! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Protein issues... i could just cry :(

I've tried the isopure. It's not horrible. I'd rather find something I like better but I'll tolerate that if I have to. My main thing about it is it leaves a nasty film in your mouth when you drink it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Protein issues... i could just cry :(

My NUT wants me to try premier Protein. I'm hoping the pre made drinks are better. Anyone know where I can buy samples? Like one bottle of each flavor? I can get a variety pack on Amazon but it's 12 bottles and $30 dollars and I haven't even tried it yet so I don't wanna waste money. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Liquid diarrhea for 4 days :(

I don't know how far out you are but I was told by my NUT not to even think about incorporating them before 1 year post op and even then she'd prefer you stay away. Carbs are a big no no Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Post op in the hospital

i appreciate the tip about the muscle relaxer! I'm no good with pain meds because they make me sick but the last time i had surgery (other than my tonsils) i only took pan meds for like 36 hours! i hate the stuff!
  8. Did you have iv pain meds? How many days were you admitted? Did you have to do any swallow testing before you went home? Best Protein options for someone who HATES protein drinks(besides isopure)? Tips on things to bring to the hospital? Did they send you home with liquid pain meds or pills and how long did you take them? Can I bring pajamas to the hospital and wear those instead of those nasty hospital gowns (post op I mean, I know you have to wear them during surgery)? Any other helpful tips? TIA Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. had my first appt at the end of july. just heading into month 2. should be having my surgery sometime in the end of january or early february of next year! I'm having the bypass. i considered the sleeve when i was denied by insurance 2 years ago but i already have severe acid reflux and the sleeve can make it worse in some cases. my dr highly recommended the bypass over the sleeve for that very reason. also the bypass can cure acid reflux... its like a 95% success rate or something like that, well in relation to the acid reflux anyways lol. I'm super excited! i just wish i could have the surgery sooner rather than later. on the plus side, ill be able to finish this semester and just take next semester off or take online classes to give myself time to adjust and heal. good luck!

Also, did anybody have to have a catheter placed? I hate them and would have to be on my death bed before I'd have one! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  13. Personally I'm going to ask for a month off. I should be having surgery sometime in Jan or feb of next year. I want the week before off because I'll be on Protein shakes only and I don't wanna pass out or anything because my job is mostly standing. That'll leave 3 weeks after the surgery to recover and get used to the diet before going back to work. Remember, you need time to adjust to eating and drinking schedules too. Beyond Aggravated

Well think about it this way... I tried to have the surgery 2 years ago... Got denied. Appealed 3 times. Still denied. Now I'm more overweight than ever and on the 6 month diet before being submitted to insurance for approval. THEN once I get approved I'll have to do the pre op liver diet before I can have surgery. It'll happen on its own time Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hello

Don't worry about what other people think. Just talk with your wife for support and don't tell other people until you've lost weight then they can't really criticize Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
