  1. My surgery was 2/9. I lost 9.7#'s my first week post op. So far I've been very blessed in not having any side effects alot of people do. I haven't had buyers remorse. I have had head hunger. Overall my experience has been very pleasant. I expected the worse. I have a very low pain tolerance and nausea from anesthesia. I made both the surgeon and anesthesiologist aware of these issues. I was given proper pain meds and anti nausea meds. I start soft foods next friday. Hopefully nausea won't start then.

  2. I'm a week post op. So far I've been very blessed and haven't experienced any nausea or gas pains. I am very tender around abdomen and tired. I would say schedule vacation for after vacation. I don't think you will get to enjoy it right after surgery. You'll be out of your comfort zone. Want to sleep. Riding in car for long distance will be no fun. You won't enjoy vacation and the rest of the family probably won't either.

    Schedule surgery after vacation.

  4. anonmom!! You're a beast:-). I am 7 days out and don't have the energy to sweep a floor much less workout. My dr has me on full liquids so the only chewing I get to do is my Vitamin chews (yum). I am up to 1.5 Protein shakes a day and maybe 20 Olof Water. Can't get more down than that. That's about 300 calories.

I too enjoy munching on my Vitamin. Have you tried sugar free popcicles? That helps me with the craving to chew on something. 10 more days then I get to try soft foods.

  5. Pre-op my bm was about every three days. I talked to surgeon about this because I know Constipation is one of side effects. For me he said if I was not having any discomfort I could go for 7 days after surgery without a bm. Surgery was 2/9. Had bm yesterday :) I have taken stool softner since 2/10. If you are feeling discomfort don't hesitate to call your surgeon and seek his advice. Are you getting your fluids in? Those are important for bm.

  6. Actually- question for all- and I apologize if this has been addressed my someone else or somewhere else- I am surfing around and havent found it yet....
Does the sodium content of the stuff you consume during a clear liquid diet matter?
I mean- this is for pre-op- do i need to make it all low sodium? (assuming no other reasons Healthwise to stay low sodium)- does normal sodium amount cause an abnormal amount of tissue swelling that would be bad for the operation? Like increase risk for staple line leakage?
The only info I got from my doctor was low sugar or no sugar.... nothing about sodium. Since it is sunday I have called their questions line but no answer yet... wondering if people here have experience with this topic.
    Thanks all!

My pre-op diet was subscribed as yours. If you do have a large intake of sodium for some reason right before surgery be sure to drink lots of fluids. I cut back on sodium months ago. Didn't want that Water weight :)

  7. Surgery (convert Lap Band to RNY) is Feb 14th and starting my 2 day liquid diet today. Going well so far. Thank you all for the updates and comments about day 2 (gas pain) as well as to ensure pills are taken spaced apart etc- to prevent issues!
I am nervous about post op pain and nausea- nausea has been a big issue with me in the past from surgery.... Oddly- the rest I am just crazy excited about!
My Doc is having me use Isopure ready to drink- 2 bottles today and 2 tomorrow in addition to other liquids. I was told they were awful- but honestly- the first one so far has been ok- Tropical Punch or some such flavor. It has that classic - almost bitter or dry or something tongue feel afterward that all Protein drinks make me feel- but flavor is ok.
    Happy days upcoming to all!!

Be sure to let your surgeon know about your issue with nausea from past surgeries. I told him and the anesthesiologist about it. They started administering in my I.V in pre-op and continued till the day I left hospital. Never had nausea while in hospital. Have had it once since being home. Took med for it and poof it was gone.

  8. Day 2 home for me was rough too. That overly full feeling is all of the nitrogen or carbon dioxide gas that they used to inflate our bellies so they could see when doing the procedure. It was the hardest part of recovery. I had minimal pain from the surgery itself. I wasn't prepared for the gas pains.

Have you tried sleeping propped up? A heating pad might help. Surgeon recommended that I slept propped up for a few nights after leaving hospital. I did as suggested. I haven't had to deal with any gas discomfort. I do use heating pad to help relax muscles around abdomen. Has worked for me. Hope you feel better soon.

Good luck to you. I had my surgery on the 9th. We're on the loser's bench :)
I only spent one night in hospital. My surgeon prescribed me liquid pain medication. I started my chewable Multivitamin today. I wait two weeks to start calcium chews. So far I haven't had any problems taking my regular prescribed medications. All are very small. I take very tiny sip of Water then take one pill. Then repeat till all are taken. Very tiny sip of water i think has been jey for me. I take 6 in morning and 4 at night.
