Carbonated beverages?
kimberb replied to heylizzyclay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I avoid carbonated drinks. My program says none for life. I understand that for a lot of WLS people that carbonated drinks are a gateway to really bad choices and weight gain. My surgeon said it could cause acid reflux and stretching of new tummy. -

Help! I ate a whole Pizza. How??
kimberb replied to wlsfeb2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just because you CAN eat something doesn't mean you SHOULD! I'm a little over 3 months I can eat a couple bites of crust and then just the topping off a slice. I can not fathom how you ate a hole pizza. You definitely need to get into therapy. -

Sleeved 2/19/17 5"3 SW 220 CW 183.6 goal between 140 and 150. I'm just a little past 3 months post-op. I have had absolutely no nausea or vomiting. I'm a BIG wimp and dreaded surgery. I had my gallbladder out 2 yrs prior sleeve surgery. I was in horrible pain for 2 wks. I just knew this surgery was going to be worse than that. Nope, I was so wrong. I've transitioned dietary phases with no problems. Spinach was a little iffy first time I tried it. I'm eating what I want. That does not include breads, pasta or rice. Not that I can't eat them, I choose not to eat them because of their nutritional value. My plan does not allow any fruits till 6 months out. Got to have protien:) I'm currently eating 600-800 calories a day. -
Why are post-op diets so different?!
kimberb replied to celeniavsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan did not have a puree stage. Each surgeon has their own plans to follow and their reasons for it. Always follow your surgeons plan. When trying something new, take a very tiny bit into your tummy. Wait....nothing, try another bite. Eat slow and tiny bites. Be sure to weigh anything you put into your mouth -
Wait for clearance from doc. Nothing carbonated. Don't eat and drink. I find it's better to eat sober. When you have a buzz going it's harder to determine when you're full.

I will try here since I'm getting no answers from other posts......

You don't need a heck of a lot. I took clean underware, chargers for phone and tablet, ear plugs, hair brush and I wore clean pj's into the hospital and same pair out. The hospital provided tooth brush etc. I'd stay in the hospital gown. If you're worried about your rear hanging out ask for an extra gown and use it for a robe. -
How Hard Is It To Get Pills Down After Surgery? I'm scared!
kimberb replied to PrettyGirlLosingIt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take chewable vitamins. No problem there. I started swallowing pills day after surgery with no problems. Little water with each pill or pills. -
My bariatric team wants us to focus on protein first, then veggies. No fruit till 6 months because of carbs.

I'm 3 months out today. I can't have fruit till I'm 6 months out other than that I haven't come across anything that I can't eat. I eat a lot less now.

Hello everyone, I got the clearance from my nutritionist to eat veggies. I had a lettuce wrapped cheese burger with tomato, onion and pickles tonight for dinner. It was SO good. I really have missed veggies.

Is it just me or does anyone else have "hollow" days?
kimberb replied to AGreenEyedWolf's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

How much water should I be drinking?
kimberb replied to jjsasha's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Definitely minimum 64 oz daily. If you miss your target once in awhile it won't hurt but if you continuously are short on fluids you will become dehydrated. -

Try putting down your eating utensil down between bites. This has helped me. It makes me more aware of how I am eating.

This is normal. You are following your plan. How about some form of exercise? You are doing all you can. The rest is up to your body. I'm in a stall too. But this to shall pass.

I take Levothroxine 137 MCG. I can't remember the dose I had before that. My start weight was 243, I'm 5"3, 50 years old. My surgery weight 2/9/17 219lbs. Current weight is 189.2 Goal 230-240lbs.

My surgeon would not operate on me when my thyroid level was 6.98. He said it was to risky for me. Thyroid effects everything at a cellular level. Surgeon said he'd worry about organ failure. I was to high risk for surgery last Oct. My primary raised my thyroid medication. In November when it was tested again I was 3.8. My surgery was 2/9.

10 days out is this normal?
kimberb replied to carlychloe2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 10 weeks out. I've been able to take large sips of water since surgery. But your nerves in your tummy are still in shock and may not be registering pain/fullness yet. I'd take it easy for now. Just because you can does not mean you should. This is the "honeymoon" stage. Take full advantage of it. -
How soon after surgery have you started to drink coffee?
kimberb replied to Finding_Stacy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Premier Protein shakes. I like vanilla the best but have used chocolate too. -
Definitely speak with a nutritionist. You're over a year out. Your bodies needs have changed. Best to seek out experts advice. That said....I think you should really be tracking your intake. A year out calorie intake is really important.

My surgeon suggested room temperature liquids or warm were best right after the surgery. I followed that and had no problems. I was only required to get 32oz of fluid the first 2 weeks.

How soon after surgery have you started to drink coffee?
kimberb replied to Finding_Stacy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Caffeine can effect healing and cause other issues after surgery. I am now 10 weeks post-op (sleeve) and am allowed one caffeine drink a day. Which I don't have. It's just no part of my life now. I drink decaf coffee. I use premier protien shake for my creamer. Works perfect for me.
