I'm actually wearing clothes with stripes! It's been years since I have felt comfortable enough to wear them.

I eat Cobb salads all the time. My hubby and I share one. I always make sure I get my protein in before I fill up on lettuce. I love lettuce wraps. I'm almost 6 months out.

First appointment scheduled

I know Kaiser wouldn't accept it. -
Ask your Bariatric team. They are the ones that have the correct answer for YOUR situation. I was 3 months out before I had any.

Follow your surgeons plan. When and what does it say you can eat? My plan only allowed water and protien shakes for the first 7 days.

September 2017 operation day
kimberb replied to Melinda Stief's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is what I did and it really helped. I started with weaning myself off of d. Soda and any carbonated drinks (soda, beer, etc ). I was tracking daily whatever went into my mouth. I was getting at least 64 oz of fluid and 60 grams protien. No fluids 30 min before, during or after meals. Concentrating on chewing food well and eating slowly. I was walking 15 min at a time 3 times daily. I'm almost 5 months out and have been blessed with no complications. I haven't experienced any nausea or vomiting. Food still taste the same as it did pre-op. I started at a lower bmi of 38. I am losing around 12#'s per month. Hope this helps. -
Yes drinking fluids fills up your tiny tummy. Drinking during and within half hour after a meal flushes the food you just ate through your tummy. My hubby bought me a smart watch for X-Men. It's been an awesome tool in helping me Keep track of time.

Vacation (Spain & Italy) 4 weeks after Surgery
kimberb replied to krs1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I highly recommend you have your surgery AFTER vacation. There are so many changes you are going through and dealing with for about 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. If you want to enjoy your vacation wait till AFTER it to have surgery. -
I'm with Fresno Ca Kaiser. I started my process in August and had surgery on Feb. 9th. It's a process. Takes time. Trust me I know how anxious you are to get the surgery. My Kaiser has an 85% 5 yr. post-op success rate of maintaining weight loss. All the hoops they require you to jump through is building a foundation for your best results. That said. Some goid advice I got that helped me jump thru the hoops. When you go in for your orientation you will be weighed. That will be your "Offical start weight" unless you have been regularly weighed at your Primary doctor's office for the last six months ( I think that was our length). For me I was right at the cusp of meeting requirements to be eligible. So I was told not to lose any weight until after my Offical weigh in. Most patients are required to lose X amount before surgery. Start keeping a food journal. Be honest!! Weigh and measure when you can. I use myfittnesspal app. Start working on achieving 60 grams protien and 64 fluid ounces of non carbonated drinks daily. If you drink soda start to ween yourself off of them. Start practicing nothing to drink 1/2 hr before during and after meals. Start doing some form of movement and logging it. I started with a 15 minute walk 2 times daily. After you have your Offical weigh in, start working on losing weight. Whatever you lose from that moment on counts. I was required to lose 15%. I reached that rather quickly (luckily). You will not be approved for surgery until you reach this goal weight and you must not be over that weight on day of surgery. I was told if you are you will not get surgery. All things I've mentioned above were requirements that my Kaiser required before surgery. By starting now you are establishing your new way to healthier you and showing your bariatric team that you are serious and motivated for surgery and being successful at weight loss. It's a wild ride but so worth it. Good luck to you

2 weeks no weight loss
kimberb replied to 3boysmama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Are you reaching your protein goal? Fluid goals? If you are then you are doing everything that you can. The rest is up to your body. I've been stalling about every 4th week. It's part of the journey. -
Surgery on Monday - not feeling full
kimberb replied to Mandingo87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weigh, measure and track everything that goes into your mouth. I'm 4 months out. Never had any feelings of restrictions the first few months after surgery. BUT my surgeon explained to me that the nerves in my new tummy were in shock and not able to signal that tummy is full. That's why it's so important to know how much is going in. Yes I have wanted to eat till I was sick to just know that my sleeve was working. I didn't/haven't so far For me, weighing or measuring helps me to know this is the portion that I am suppose to have. I've noticed this last month that if I eat to fast or to much I get the hiccups. Still figuring out the dense protein and veggies. Just because my plan now says to eat 4 oz at a time doesn't mean my new tummy agrees with that. -
It's worth all the hurdles you have to jump through.

Example meal after gastric surgery?
kimberb replied to Karlnjax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me any fluid that does not have caffeine or alcohol in them counts towards the 64 oz. -
It is really important to track your protein and liquids. If you are not meeting your daily requirements you can end up back in the hospital. Right now all you need to REALLY track is protein and fluids. You are eating so little that all the other stuff like carbs, fats etc are not important. Trust me if you are getting your protein and fluid daily goals you don't have room for anything else.

Before surgery I told only a few people. The ones I told were the ones I wanted their opinions about the surgery and their support. After surgery if someone asks about my weight loss I say I'm eating healthier and moving more or I just tell them I had WLS. It's totally up to you.
