Who ever said the reason there is stereotypes is because they are often true, I just want to say as a person of Irish decent I find your statement appalling and disgusting. I can't speak about the Labour Laws in the US but in Canada that sort of statement is grounds for dismisal. If I make a sexist or racist remark at work and someone overhears me they can lodge a complaint and I can be fired. Saying sorry is not a defense even if the individual who was affected accepts my apology. Not firing Imus could lead to further litigation, I would feel strongly that CBS and MSNBC did the due diligence required and decided that the safest course of action was termination. Freedom of speach is protected in the US constitution, freedom from sexism and racism in the work place is also protected. Imus is unemployed because he said what he said at work.

People have been blowing each other up in the name of religion for thousands of years. There is little reason to enter into a debate over which religion is more guilty. Anyone who is willing to kill another in the name of God, Allah or the flying spagetti monster for that matter is wrong. I feel comfortable saying that the Muslim world has more than it's share of religiuos fanatics who are willing to take the life of others for no other reason than they beleive that their supreme diety wishes it. But religious intolerance isn't just measured by who kills the most. It is also measured by how intolerant groups are towards others on the whole. If a fanatical Muslim yells kill the infidels I feel repulsed but no less repulsed than when I hear a fanatical Christian scream that aids is God's way of ridding the world of Homo's and Fags, or chants of "kill the fags" The debate is not over who is more wrong, the debate to me, is about wrong is wrong and even if my side is perpetrating the wrong I still agree that it is wrong and I will appose the wrong. The idea of depicting Christians as fanatics does not imply that all christians are bad. It simply opens our eyes to the fact that some Christians are bad and we need to be aware. I am a firm believer in the idea that the only person that you can truly affect change on is yourself so it stands to reason that if we are unwilling to see our own faults we will not correct those faults. So the issue of whether or not Muslims have committed more than their share of the violence is a red herring. The true issue is what can I do to improve me and saying it's okay for me to be a bad person because the other guy is worse just doesn't cut it. Sorry for the long post but I am suffering from a little insomnia and I was hoping If I wrote this and then read it, it might put me to sleep. No such luck

Ron, whats in this for you, I don't get it. Why are you so against those who are trying to save the planet. I just can't imagine why you would feel a need to dispute or debate the topic. If you were a major oil company I could understand your position but what would motivate an individual to debate this issue is beyond me. I understand as a right wing conservative you dislike Al Gore but to disagree with someting just because he is delivering the message seems kind of odd to me. When a right wing conservative says that murder is wrong I don't automatically decide that murder is not wrong just because I may not agree with their politics doesn't mean that I must apose everything they say. This just seems very odd to me if George Bush were to say that we were causing global warming would you change your mind? What about any issue Bush and Gore agree on? how do you deal with that. If Jerry Falwell walked up to me and said "It is important to help those who are less fortunate" I would say "Jerry I agree" ( I might say a few other things to him but I would still tell him on that idea I agree)

What possible political gain? Please enlighten me on that, I can not for a minute see where anyone could not deduce that humans are having an incredible effect on our enviroment. Try and stay away from to much chocolate and a little funny

The world is not "ugly", just some of the people in it. All groups, sects, religions, creeds, colours etc. have members who are "ugly". There are some very terrible white males out in the world but when someone makes a movie or writes a book that depicts a white male in a negative light I do not take offence or assume that the intent is to imply all white males are bad. I do not feel threatened by any negative depictions of white males so why would anyone be threatened by right wing fanatics being depicted in a negative fashion?

As far as acceptable bigotry, I believe there is no such thing. There is however a need for people to be able to disagree with Intolerance, Racism, Hatred, Sexism et al. So if you are Gay and you espouse intolerance I am able to say that you are intolerant. Likewise if you are a fundamentalist Christian and you are intolerant it is acceptable for me to call you intolerant. Maybe the Christian right should stop being so intolerant and then there would be less people calling them those names. Just a thought
