  1. Hi Melliott 74,

Just seeing your friends request. Hope you are moving toward better health. I am getting used to the band and learning to incorporate more exercise in my day. Take care.

    First Fill No Go

Hi Everyone! I am about 6 weeks out and went to the doc today for my first fill. I was all psyched up for it. He examined me and noted that since my weight loss was just over 20 lbs in the six week period, he would not fill me and just keep an eye on me. I have had quite a bit of belching and he suspects I may be too tight (reflux?). According to him, I only had 2 ccs put in my 10cc band at the time of surgery. In the meantime, he has scheduled me for an upper GI. and a quick return appointment. Has this happened to someone else? I am concerned because I am reading about others of you with 5 or more cc's in the band and not being too tight. Tammygirl

    Insurance Question

I too have United and the process was as smooth as ice and very fast. I wish you the very best! Tammygirl
  7. You are welcome, Holly. I agree with you about Dr. Blaney. I am well and due for my first fill 6/17. It has been interesting getting to know this band. I attend the support meetings and look forward to better health. Much success to you also as you move toward better health.

  8. how big was your hernia and what did they do to fix it? Is it possible to have a hernia where the band goes so that you wouldn't be able to get banding? so many questions lol Wicked, Don't have many answers for you. I knew I had a hernia (medium size, according to another doc) prior to surgery and told the doc about it. He did an endo and told me "no big deal, I'll fix it." I do not know all the ins and outs of the repair but I do know I got the bill:smile:. I think every doc is different. Some are more willing to work with various sized hernias than others. Good Luck to you!
  9. I have had a similiar issue. Since banding, I cough a lot. I had hernia repair during my banding and prior to banding had reflux. I was removed from Nexium after surgery. My nurse suggests that I have still have reflux and should go back on Nexium. I have not had my first fill yet. Hoping that this issue resolves as more weight is lost.
  10. Hey AT! Congratulations on your path to better health! I was banded April 28. My doc states that until the first fill, healing, not weight loss is the objective. Some folks lose a lot a first and some don't. You are still in the very early stages. Hang on in there! Tammygirl:thumbup:

    banded APRIL 15-2008

Hey! I was banded in Augusta 4/28/08 by Dr. Blaney. I live in Aiken, SC. Nice to see you all here! Tammygirl
  12. Thank you for this thread. I am about 3 wks post op. The first 2 weeks I was on liquids and felt no hunger. This past week, since I have started on mushies, I have been hungry enough to eat 3 cows and their mama. I thought I was the only one. Thank you for the reassurance and encouragement that this will pass and I must just press on. I have my first post op visit in the office tomorrow. Tammygirl

    Gaining Weight For Surgery!!!????

I agree with TD. Review your 5 year history very carefully and document each and every weight loss attempt and results. Document family health history as well. I would not seek to gain weight. You are fortunate to have no comorbidities. Hopefully, surgical intervention can prevent them. Good Luck to you! Tammygirl

    No Pre-OP Diet

I don't know about that one, JRT:rolleyes2:. I am 50 and did not have a pre-op diet. You are not that far ahead of me and I can not imagine what could happen to a liver in 3 short years:huh2:. Any hoo, I suppose it's all good and the most important thing is that we are able to have the surgery and get going on being healthier. The best to you! Tammygirl

    Lunch Time

Hi LaLa! Bring your own lunch prepared per your doctor's orders. With the economy the way it is, nobody questions folks bringing their lunch. Use attractive containers and smile! If you have to go out to a business luncheon, choose the foods your doctor OKs for you and don't forget to ask for that take out box! Tammygirl
  21. Congratulations, Lala! I am told that weight loss is very individual for this surgery. My doctor told me that some people do not begin to lose until after the first fill, others begin to lose immediately. I am about 2 weeks post op and have lost 23 lbs. I am noticing a difference in the way some of my clothes fit, however, because of my initial weight, I do not expect others to notice until I have lost more than 50 lbs or so. The very best to you! Tammygirl
