mistihoskins replied to MsFab1988's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was 31 when I was banded. Glad I did it. -
What Is Your Favorite Protein Food?
mistihoskins replied to loseit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite protien from home is any salmon dish. I like it grilled or baked with simple salt and pepper. If I'm looking for fast food it isn't always the healthiest option but I love, love, love chicken Express catfish. -
Does Everyone Get Stuck On The Same Foods?
mistihoskins replied to lovex5's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it is different for us all. My sister and I were banded within a day of each other and she can eat things I can't. I can't do much bread, but small bites if I eat slowly, and she can eat a small burger with a bun. I don't do well with pasta and she does. I only eat the icing at b-days and she can eat the cake. Each band is a little different. My band is very emotional and intolerant of rain. I tighten if in stressed or hormones go crazy and if there is rain I know it the day before most times. So, that beig said, your band and you will learn to communicate just like a true relationship. Your band will tell you what it likes by letting it go down with standard eating methods and what it doesn't like by getting stuck or takig it's own sweet time letting it pass. Just listen and you will figure out what works for you. Try foods you are worried about at home before eating out and that will help. Good luck on your journey. -
Day 3 Of My Two Weeks Of Liquid Pre-Op Diet... Having A Hard Time! Help!
mistihoskins replied to sylviau's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was lucky because I was cash pay and wanted to get things done quick so they scheduled all my appointments for te same day, I went on liquids, and 4 days later I was in surgery. So I had 4 days on liquids before surgery. It was hard but I just kept thinking about the prize! I lost 11 lbs in those 4 days. It was a great ego boost to get me on track for my journey. Good luck with your journey. I know you will enjoy the prize. -

Help Im Craving Foods I Never Ate Before!
mistihoskins replied to Yovancca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you crave drink water. It will fill you up so you'll be too full to want it. Also, if you keep some good fruit on hand you can eat a snack of fruit and it will help. I have always been told I eliminate it for 2 weeks and you will not want it again. Just hang in there and find somethig to keep your mind off the craving. Good luck on your journey. -
Did I Hear Someone Say Clear Or Flavorless Protein Drink Or Powder?
mistihoskins replied to OldMomOf3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used the injury when cooking and didn't really notice a flavor change but there was a texture change. I did the isopure but didn't like the taste and the shots were just so thick. So I have been doing the Special K protien drinks and they are nt horrible if they are really cold. It is hard to find what you need in a flavor or texture you like. I know my sister and I tried everything we saw. There is also a brand called brothlers or something similar in the juice section at WM that is pretty good. There is a coffee flavor and a chai tea flavor. The health food stores will sometimes offer samples or individual packets to buy so you can try it before you buy a box. Good luck. -
It has been a while. I have been banded since 02/2008 and at my lowest weight ha lost 111 lbs. I had thyroid cancer that was caught by my lap-band doctor when I put on 30 lbs in a few months and had trouble swallowing. I am now down 86 lbs but struggle to lose again. I had to have an unexpected surgery in May and didn't even think about what effects it might have on my band. I am in my 6th week f recovery and I have started feelig like my band is too tight. I can drink slowly but most all foods just find their way back up. It is not horribly painful like the "stuck" feelig but lots of pressure. I have days I can eat anythig and days I can't swallow my own spit. It is very bothersome and I worry that it could be something more. Thinking of going back on liquids for a few days and seeing if it helps any. Has anyone else had a surgery like this that an share the effects on the band? Also, what did you do to jump start the weight loss again after everythig settled down? Thanks for the support and advice.
