Month long stall...then gain!
thisisthenewme replied to avatarkorraa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, wow you are really working it girl. And congratulations on your hard work thus far! Couple of things: I agree with the last post. 900 cal's a day seems like way to low. Your dietitian is ok with that? At 3 months out I'm sure they told me I should be eating 1200. I eat about 1300-1450 a day and I'm very satisfied. I eat basically whatever I want. But I'm also gluten and dairy free due to severe food sensitivities. I just came out of a long (4-5 week) stall and all I did was try to increase protein and be more mindful of exercise. I've been doing 20 min cardio walk on my treadmill a couple times a week and family walks couple nights a week too. Honestly I don't workout very much, just try to stay active. I've lost 2lbs the last two weeks! I'll be 10 months out on July 3 and I've lost 89lbs. I agree that you also need to find the reason for being so tired. And could possibly be the lack of calories [emoji20] I'd also like to mention. Be careful about your goal. I'm 39 and twice in my life I was able to get to where I am now, 203-205lbs. This weight actually looks 'good' on me, as I carry weight well, and could probably be happy here forever. The two times before I wanted to be 175 and kept fighting and fighting. Not realizing in the moment I was happy the way I was. This time is different as I'm really confident I will keep losing as losing weight has never been this easy, but honestly, anything after this weeks weigh in will be icing on the cake! I've never been under 200lbs in my adult life. Maybe take a little break from weight loss and just work on your energy levels. You're so young and have lots of time! Don't be so hard on yourself. Keep up the hard work and I hope it all works out for you! -

I miss feeling satisfied by food
thisisthenewme replied to FollowingMyPath's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is definitely temporary. I'm almost 9 months out, wow just realized that, and love eating! I love making something delicious and satisfying not just something to put in my mouth. I love being full on a small portion and knowing my surgery is working for me. I don't know about you, but when I thought I loved food before, I also have to remember all the over eating and discomfort from that. All the times I wished I could stop eating. Hope that helps :-) -
That is like exactly what I need done (along with inner thighs, boobs, oh and arms [emoji30]), I'm trying to see if I can get ohip to cover the panniculextomy, but I've heard it's hard. We'll see. Good luck to you!

One difference I've heard of is the cost of insurance for surgeons is crazy in US and Canada and that expense is past on to you. Your quote sounded pretty good compared to what I've been getting (I'm in Canada) at $18000-20000 for a lower body lift! I'm going to investigate a plastic surgery teaching centre I found in Toronto :-) Or Mexico will likely be my only option.

Am I doing something wrong?
thisisthenewme replied to julasif's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd say you are doing very well so far for you weight! As said before, don't stress about it. Stalls are normal and must be embraced as part of the process. You body needs time to re-adjust as large amounts of weight are shed. Also, you might want to double check on jogging at this stage. I was told only walking for the first couple months. Personally I'd just stick to walking. Your body has went through a lot in a small amount of time. Give it a break. -

What are some of your Non Scale Victories (NSV's)
thisisthenewme replied to bs19gal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been struggling a little with a drop down to a slower rate of lose from my normal steady 2lbs a week. So yesterday I had to wear a coat that I bought 3 months ago. It fit a little tight when I bought it and I had noticed it was getting bigger, but yesterday I could overlap the zipper by at least 3 inches!!! And the smallest pair of jeans I owned in my adult life (size 14 from 3.5 years ago) finally fit again!! Crazy how the scale isn't really moving but changes are still always happening when you're being good to your body and following the plan :-) -

Conquering the sweet tooth
thisisthenewme replied to Khaleesi Kim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had success in the past with the hard knocks approach. Complete elimination off all forms sugar and sugar fruits. The first couple days are hard but after your body isn't getting it, it will stop craving it. Now I tell myself it's ok to crave it, just because you're thinking about food doesn't mean you have to have anything. Sometimes I think our, ppl with obesity as a disease, simply just think about food so much more and we think that we have to eat when we think about food. I don't know this logic works for me. -
Thank you for sharing all your updates. This is definitely surgery I will be having done (Doctor sensing in referral this week) and it's nice to hear about someone's experience and recovery as they go!

50 lbs down... I'm in Onederland!
thisisthenewme replied to SassyScienceNerd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Looking great!! I totally know what you mean about chairs getting 'bigger'. Sat in my therapists chair today after 6 weeks and it was 'bigger' again!! There is room on either side of me now and I can remember the first time I saw her, before surgery, I was wedged into that chair! -
Panniculectomy?
thisisthenewme replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So happy for you!! Would you be willing to share some pictures. My doctor is making a referral to a plastic surgeon to have this covered under ohip, fingers crossed. Mine hangs down completely over the pubic area when I let it 'out'!! [emoji30] -
Sounds like you're over the hump! Good for you for sticking with if. I was on 3 weeks of optifast and it was HELL!! This will be a distant memory a couple months from now. Keep up the good work!!

I bet it has. Compare picture and clothes. Sometimes we can't see these things in the mirror.

Doctors will likely say 6-12 months. Tolerance is lower, but I can still enjoy my favourite. Spice rum and Diet Pepsi. I like lots of ice and I think that helps water it down some. No issues.

NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!
thisisthenewme replied to Lexington1020's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I drink Diet Pepsi but half as much as I used to and slowly. Doesn't seem to bother me A little spice rum in there too. Everything in moderation! -
Looks amazing. Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks for this article! Good read. I have been losing slower and I know there are changes I can make in my diet and habits. I just need to put a plan together. But you're so right about creating a new habit for permanent changes. Thanks again! -
SAIL INTO SUMMER CHALLENGE
thisisthenewme replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I completely agree! I'm 208 now and these days only losing about 1lb a week. But my anxiety at getting below 200 is high, as I've never been in onederland in my adult life (I'm 39). My long term goal is 180, but I wonder if I should just be happy at say 205, but I've been doing so good (rny in Oct, down 85lbs) that I feel like I should keep going. But this much slower loss ever week is hard. I will be having a body lift and likely will get 8-10lbs taken off, so I should end up under 200 either way. I want to increase my exercise too, but very badly pulled my back last week, so taking it easy till it's healed. So my challenge will be this: Current weight = 208 Goal weight = 199!!! Let's do this -
I hope you're going to see your doctor. If tonsillitis you'll need antibiotics. Otherwise you can take Tylenol for the pain. Very warm salt water mouth wash can also help. Tea. Sugar free throat lozenges. If it's just a sore throat you might just have to wait it out. I get a sore throat from post nasal drip. If that's the issue you can get Flonase over the counter now. Hope you feel better soon.
