Metabolic Testing?
annieway2lose replied to jenrae1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This test was done before you had the surgery? Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App Yes. I am still waiting for surgery. This was done the same day as my initial consultation. They gave me a bunch of lab orders. The metabolic test and the scope down into my stomach were the only two tests they actually did there in the office. Everything else I had to go to a lab for. I am hoping to get the rest of those results this week. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -

Metabolic Testing?
annieway2lose replied to jenrae1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do a metabolic test. It was really easy. I just had to sit comfortably in a chair and breathe into a machine for about 15 minutes. It measured how many calories my body burns just to stay alive. It actually was really interesting. For my height and weight my body should be using about 2500 calories, but the test showed that I am only using 1400. So my metabolism is pretty slow. I was able to adjust my calories for the day on my fitness pal app and hopefully will be able to see more weight loss. My insurance wants me to lose 10 pounds this month. So for me that test was really helpful! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -

Insurance game
annieway2lose replied to annieway2lose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance requires that I be enrolled in their weight loss program for 6 consecutive months prior to surgery. It was my coach with that program that set the goal to lose 10 pounds in 30 days. I talked to my patient advocate at the Dr's office and she advised me not to worry about it. She said that I should try to lose the weight but if I don't it shouldn't be a problem. She said the main thing is to lose weight and not gain. So I feel a little better about that. They are also trying to submit everything to my insurance now because I do have a large hiatal hernia that needs to be repaired. She said that most times in a case like mine the insurance will waive the entire waiting period. So here's to hoping!! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -
I'm worried that my insurance is trying to find ways to deny me or something. In order to qualify for surgery I have to be over 40 BMI and complete their 6 month weight loss program with one of their coaches. I am just starting my 3rd month with their weight loss program and got an email today with my goals for the month. They want me to lose 10 pounds in the next 30 days. I am currently at a 41.7 BMI. If I lose the 10 pounds that takes me to a 40.7 and I will still need to complete 2 more months of their program, which I am sure would put me below the required BMI of 40. Has anyone else dealt with this? Can they deny me at that point? Also, if I don't reach the goal they can make me start the program over. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

Time frame from 1st appointment to surgery

I do have an HSA and my employer will put $800 in that around the middle of January. That is the reason I wanted to wait until then. I went to my consultation yesterday and found out I have a large hiatal hernia. The dr said that they have to fix those all the time so he is not concerned about that, but he also said that since I need surgery for that most times the insurance will waive the 6 month supervised diet. I did all my lab work and attended the required class yesterday. I still need to do the psych evaluation but it looks like this may be a lot quicker than I expected. Of course if they are just submitting as a hiatal hernia surgery in not sure why I need the psych evaluation anyway. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -
Preventing Saggy Skin
annieway2lose replied to TheStarvingMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had my surgery yet (still in the approval phase), but I have been curious about this as well. I have read some information online that dry brushing your skin before a shower can help. It is supposed to improve the circulation as well as exfoliate. Some people swear by it. The other thing I have read a lot about is a diy coffee scrub to use in the shower. There are lots of different ways to make it and usually with stuff you already have at home. You can Google coffee scrub recipes and find one you like. The caffeine in coffee is said to be good for skin. I figure both of these are cheap and won't hurt to try. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -

Thank you for all the replies! I guess I was just worried that once the insurance approved I would have to do it right away. Sounds like I am going at about the perfect time though. My insurance requires that I work with their weight loss coaches for 3 months prior and I am about half way done with that. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -
Time frame from 1st appointment to surgery

Hi, I am new here and just wondering what the time frame was for everyone from when they had the first consultation with the Dr to the time that they had surgery? I have met my deductible for the year with my insurance but not my out of pocket maximum, so I will still need to come up with about $4K. I have my first consultation on 9/8. I don't really want to take out a loan to come up with the out of pocket and I could have the money in cash around January. Am I going to my consultation too early?
