    Nerve wrecking sleever [emoji85]

I had my surgery Wednesday as well. My surgeon considers Day #1 to be the first day you wake up in your own bed, so that is today for me. I have been sipping water all morning. I aim for 4 oz per hour and I use a small cup with exactly that amount. So far, it's not too bad. (I just have to be careful not to take too much in at once.) I'll have some Jello and broth later and we'll see how that goes. I am not nearly as uncomfortable today as I was yesterday (but some of that is thanks to the pain pills). I get to add in unflavored Protein powder tomorrow until day 6. On day 7, I can start with Protein shakes with a goal of 30 grams of protein per day. I can honestly say that I have no desire for any food at all right now.

    Incision scars !

I'm definitely interested in this. I had my surgery Wednesday, and my belly looks like a war zone!
  3. @@icyblufrz88 I completely understand how you feel. I lost 99 pounds over the past six-months using a low carb/high protein/high healthy fat diet. Even though I was fulfilling all of my obligations to have insurance pay for the sleeve, I still had a little voice in the back of my head that was saying "you can do this without surgery." Then it hit me; even at 99 pounds down, I still need to lose another 100-110 pounds. When I met with my PCP in late August for my surgery clearance testing, she and I talked about it, and she agreed that surgery WAS necessary. I've lost this kind of weight 3 other times in my life, and I always gain it back. The sleeve will be a tool that helps me in the second half of my weight loss journey, and, most importantly, that helps me to maintain a healthy weight when I get where I need to be. I got sleeved on Wednesday afternoon. I still feel like crap today, but I know that it is going to get better and better. I wish you the best, and I hope that my experience can be helpful as you make you decision. Blair

    Noisy co workers

Almost everyone on my immediate team at work has struggled with their weight in one way or another over the years, so they have all been super supportive of me. Of course, many of us have worked together and been friends for over 10 years, so that frames the situation. (And my boss is like a big brother to me; he always has my best interests at heart, and he is really proud of the work I have been doing to get more healthy...)

    Noisy co workers

I told everyone at work when I started the weight loss journey. Everyone has supported me throughout the pre-op diet and have been super encouraging about the surgery yesterday. I am taking 6 weeks off work to recover and adjust to my new diet, so I would have had to be honest to justify that kind of time off.
  6. I lost 99 pounds during my six-month pre-op diet program (low carb/high protein/high healthy fat). I got sleeved yesterday.

    Small victories!

    Awesome! Congratulations!
  8. Good luck! I had mine yesterday, and it was all a lot easier and smoother than I thought it would be. I spent the night at the hospital, and I was discharged about 9:30 this morning.
  9. Hi Lisa, Here is a typical day's food under the diet I have followed over the past six months: Breakfast 3 scrambled eggs 4 pieces of bacon 1 piece of American cheese (cooked in eggs) lunch 1 Premier Protein chocolate shake dinner 6-8 oz of lean meat (chicken or salmon or occasionally red meat) 1.5 cups lettuce 1/3 cup parmesan cheese 3 T bacon bits 3 T Olive Garden Italian Dressing This comes out in the 1200-1300 calories range depending on the dinner protein. I hope this helps!
  10. Glad to be on the other side of this surgery! I don't feel great, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be!

Thanks! They gave me some liquid pain medicine, so I am feeling much better. I'm just waiting on my parents to get here, and then I can head home!! Good luck as you approach your liquid diet. I'll be thinking about you. (And thank you again for being so sweet and supportive.)

  11. Good job! I lost 99 pounds pre-op using a low carb (15-20 per day), high Protein (100-120 grams per day), and high healthy fat diet (approximately 100 grams per day). It was a VERY successful approach for me. I am planning on continuing the low-carb approach as I move through my food stages post-op.
  12. It's over. What a day. We arrived at the hospital at 10:30 as asked, but it was almost 1:30 before I went back with the nurse and it was after 3:00 before they operated. The surgeon just didn't show up when he was supposed to and everything was super backed up. I was irate to say the least. In my business, we wouldn't treat customers that way, and if we did, there would be hell to pay. All-in-all, it has been much easier than I thought it would be. The worst part was sitting on the table waiting on the anesthesia to kick in. I just remember the nurses talking to each other, and then I woke up in the recovery room. I have been drinking Water, broth and having Jello since then. I haven't had any issues. I have been on four pretty sizable walks around the ward. Everyone is impressed with my progress so far. I have a little bit of gas pain, but it isn't terrible. We'll see how tomorrow goes. I just sent my partner and my parents back to our house to sleep. I just didn't want them to have to sleep here, and, hopefully, I'll be out soon myself. That's it for now. I'll check in tomorrow.

    Do you count carbs?

I have done low-carb for my entire six-month diet before surgery and I've lost 99 pounds so far! After my surgery tomorrow, I am going to adhere to my low-carb regiment (15-20 per day) as I progress through the stages. I talked to my nutritionist about it and she agreed that I need to stick to that plan since it works for me (and low carb options are available at each stage). To each his/her own on this one, but carbs don't work for me. I am addicted to them, and it is a slippery slope when dealing with them (even in moderation)...

Good luck! I'm up tomorrow, so I'll be right behind you...
  15. Best wishes for a great day. I am up tomorrow, so I'll be following right behind you...

    A1C

I have followed a strict low-carb (less than 20 per day), high Protein diet for the last six months. Not only have I lost almost 100 pounds pre-op, but ALL of my medical clearance lab work for surgery was in the NORMAL range! It is amazing what cutting out the carbs will do for you...

    I LOVE TODAY

    Awesome work!!
  18. Day 2 of my self-imposed liquid pre-op diet hasn't been so bad. Surgery Wednesday morning. 98 pounds down now. Still hoping I get to 100 pounds down before surgery!

You all are amazing. Thank you for the kind words and support! I weighed 298 mid-morning (the time of day when I usually weigh), so that's 99 pounds down. I'm happy with that. Now for my sugar-free jello and water on-the-rocks for lunch!!

    September 29th = New chapter!

Good luck! My surgery is Wednesday. I'm scared to death, but I know that I have done everything that I can possibly do to make for the best surgical situation. Good thoughts to you...

    One week off from work?

I may end up feeling like you do, but, to be honest, I would love to actually feel some boredom for a change. We'll see how it goes...
  22. There is a difference between tough love and just being a heinous bitch because you want to be. (But then I remember that online forums are all some people have in life...) @@LipstickLady -- my comment isn't aimed at you at all. You seem like a super cool chick and I have learned a lot from you in the past couple of months.

    Helpful Pampering

I'm a man, and I'll bite... Good for you! My partner and I joined a spa about 2 months ago and I love all of it. (In fact, one of my questions for the surgeon himself on Wednesday -- my surgery day -- concerns when I can resume the services I enjoy.) In fact, I have an appointment at 11 this morning to get my back waxed. That is no fun, but I have to wear that stupid gown at the hospital, and I am going to make damn sure that I feel as comfortable as possible. Pamper and enjoy! EDIT: I didn't realize this was the ladies' area. The message showed up on the right side of the screen in recent posts. (This is my first time to do this, although I have read about people doing it before. It is very easy to do since reading where the post is posted isn't part of my routine on here...)

    Two tickets on plane?

I fly extensively for work. (I am a diamond medallion on Delta.) Before I began my pre-op six-month diet, I weighed almost 400 pounds at 5'11". I always fit in the seat, but at the highest weight, I barely fit in the seat. I always had to have a seat-belt extender. Now that I have lost down to 300 pre-op, there are no issues. Ironically enough, I always stayed away from window seats and opted for aisle seats since I could lean out into the aisle once we got in the air to give everybody in the row more room. I also agree with chycky about first class. If you can afford to buy first class, do it. These days, I get upgraded about 85% of the time, and it is definitely more comfortable. In fact, since gave up booze in April as I continue my weight loss journey, first class is all about comfort and the bigger seat. (And it all but eliminates the "will I make others uncomfortable" stress that comes along with riding in coach when you are of a certain size...)
