Protein powder is your best friend. I like the premier Protein shakes, too. I was just allowed to move to those yesterday, (hence the extra 10 grams of protein) and they are a welcome addition to my "food" repertoire!

Question About Liquids
blizair09 replied to cuteNATL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am Day 10 post-op. I get in 64 fl oz of Water per day, but it takes me all day to do it. I am noticing that I can sip more at a time now -- verging on what I would call a gulp. It takes me 2 hours to drink a premier Protein shake. I am seeing improvements every day, so I feel pretty good about where I am right now. I hope this helps. Good luck! -
I did low carb/high protein/high healthy fat during my six-month insurance-required diet program and lost 99 pounds pre-op. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I re-established my relationship with food, and prepared myself mentally and physically for the demands the sleeve would bring post-op. I started at 397 taking in about 2000 calories per day. I whittled down to 1800 then 1500, and finally, 1200 for the last 3 months of it. I cut out alcohol completely, too. On the day of surgery, I weighed 298, and today (10 days post-op), I weigh 284. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Welcome back, and good luck!

I am 10 days post-op as well. I have been getting 64 fl oz of Water in every day since Day 3 post-op. It takes me all day, though. I have noticed in the past few days that I can take bigger sips (actually approaching what I would call a gulp now). I'm not really hungry ever, either. I was taking in about 40 grams of Protein each day until yesterday, and I have graduated to 50 grams. That comes in the form of one Protein shake (30 grams), one 4 oz serving of Cream of chicken Soup with 1/2 scoop of unflavored Protein powder (10.5 grams), and 1 cup of broth with 1/2 scoop of unflavored protein powder (10.5 grams). Other than that, I really don't "eat" anything else in a day. Yesterday, I got to 325 calories which is the most I have been able to get in since the surgery. My nutritionist said not to expect to top 500 calories until I move past purees (which isn't until Day 21). I hope this helps. Good luck!

When will I feel better or even remotely better?
blizair09 replied to Boudala's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the case of broth, I just mix it while the broth is at room temperature, and then I heat it up in the microwave. I get it warm but not super hot and it works fine. -
6 months of weights then VSG
blizair09 replied to GTFMommy2516's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My advice is GET STARTED! I lost 99 pounds during my six-month insurance-required pre-op diet. It was the very best thing that could have happened to me. I completely re-established my relationship with food and prepared myself for the physical and mental challenges of the surgery and the post-op diet. I am convinced that the ease with which I have transitioned to post-op and my continued weight loss success is because of all the work I did on the front end. Best wishes to you! -
Good luck!!

When will I feel better or even remotely better?
blizair09 replied to Boudala's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband who is a chef says there is no Protein in it. But I've put my foot down and am getting broth tomorrow because I'm force feeding myself Isopure and Water and the pain of throwing up is much worse than I imagined. My guide from the doc allows for it starting tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Just get some unflavored Protein powder and mix into the broth. I've been alternating that with the Isopure No-Carb vanilla so that I have a sweet and savory contrast. -
When will I feel better or even remotely better?
blizair09 replied to Boudala's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got sleeved on Wednesday, September 28 and spent the night at the hospital. I felt pretty awful until that Saturday, and then I started to make a turn for the better. We got out of the house and went to Sam's Club and Target. I was worn out after we returned, but I felt better. It has gotten progressively better every day since then. We made a point to get out of the house every day to do something, and the next Wednesday (10/5), I started a daily sojourn to my spa and back for tanning, etc. which is a mile from my house each way. That wears me out still, but it has gotten less tiring every day that I have done it. I was amazed at the rate at which things improved. I hope this is also the case for you. Good luck! -

Protein making me sick
blizair09 replied to Danielle893's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How much Protein is your plan asking you to have at Day 9 post-op? On mine, it is 30 grams. It goes to 40-50 grams beginning at Day 15. (That being said, plans are wildly different. One person posted theirs on another thread and mine is WAY more conservative than what he posted.) The point of what I am writing is that your 30 gram intake doesn't seem so bad for where you are right now. Good luck! -
I'd have to say no. I am 8 days post-op, and I had my highest daily calorie count today -- 225. I'm getting 40 grams of Protein and 64 oz of Water in, but 225 calories is the best I have been able to do. (But, I'm still on Clear liquids and Protein powder. I start full liquids tomorrow, so maybe I can break 300!)

My plan calls for full liquids at Day 11. -
Isopure make anyone else throw up?
blizair09 replied to Boudala's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan didn't let me start any Protein powder until Day 3. Maybe your body just isn't ready for it so soon after surgery. The night of surgery at the hospital, they gave me broth, sugar free Jello and some reduced-calorie sorbet. Those first few days I put unjury Unflavored Protein into beef or chicken broth with a shot of broth enhancer. It just tasted like broth and it went down pretty easy. Good luck! -

I lost 9 lbs in one week!
blizair09 replied to Shayisready's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's awesome. The more you can lose pre-op, the better off you will be. I lost 99 pounds during my six-month insurance-required pre-op diet. It physically and mentally prepared me for the surgery and its dietary requirements better than anything could. (Plus it helps that you can see significant weight loss when you are recovering from surgery. Somehow that makes everything better...) Good luck and keep it up!! -

Emotional day 2 post op

I am getting 64 oz of Fluid in every day, but it is an all-day affair. It is almost like a full-time job in itself. Thank goodness for short-term disability! -
I turn 41 today. But I can say that I weigh less today than I have weighed on any birthday since my 33rd. That's something to celebrate!!

I have my sleeve surgery tomorrow
blizair09 replied to itzbrittaanyx3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is normal to be nervous. I was a wreck for a few days before. Know that the next few days will suck, but you will bounce back quickly. I started feeling better on day 3 post-op, and now at day 8, I'm feeling pretty good. -
