  1. I did Powerade Zero and Water for the first couple of weeks. When I finished the 24-pack of Powerade Zero that I got at Sam's Club, I started brewing Lipton Decaf Iced Tea, and I have been having that ever since. It seems more "normal" to me (outside the caffeine).

    On a journey

Every day gets better, and getting up and around (and back out into life and the world) helps facilitate that improvement tremendously. Good luck as you continue your journey!

    Help!

I would echo some of the others and also suggest speaking to a professional. The biggest part of this journey, to me, is re-establishing your relationship with food. I used my six-month insurance-required pre-op diet to do that, and I am so glad that I did. Aside from the huge pre-op weight loss that I had, that diet program gave me the time to get my mind in the right place, and that has made all the difference in this post-op transition. (I say this more for the benefit of those reading who are pre-op. In your case, what's done is done and talking to a professional will be your best bet to playing catch up.) Good luck!
  4. I am off for 6 weeks using my short-term disability benefit. On top of being exhausted a lot, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to get my Fluid and Protein in (especially when you start adding in more dense foods as well with the need to have the 30 minutes before and after with no fluid) and work at this stage. Everybody's situation is different, but I would advise people to take as much time as your work situation and finances will allow...

    Today's the day!

    All my best!
  7. When I started my six-month pre-op diet back in March, I created a list of milestones myself. Most of them involves times I remember being a certain weight in the past. When I pass one, I bold and italicize it on a spreadsheet. I always feel so accomplished when this happens! 270 is actually my next milestone, too!
  8. I broke 500 calories for the first time today! And I had 74 grams of protein, too. Great day!

I only got in the 64 oz today. Before I started having some semi-solids, I was getting in 80 oz, but it took me the whole day to finish 64 oz by the time I added the 30 minutes before and after 4 different times during the day. I was taking the last sips in right before I went to bed!

    Low to no energy

I feel ya. I was sleeved on September 28 as well. I have been killing my Fluid and Protein goals all along (almost 70 grams of protein and 80 oz of Water per day now ), but some days I am just worn out. Today happens to be one of those days. I walk about 2 miles every day, and I usually have to take a nap afterward (or at least take it easy). I'm just trying to be patient, especially since my recovery has been going pretty well in all respects.
  10. It does suck! I used olive oil to help get it all off. That helped get some of it off on contact, but 24 hours later, the rest came off very easily.
  11. @@The New Kel What a cool post. It is so true and embodies a huge piece of this journey.

    Day 1...Liver Reduction

Unflavored Protein powder mixed with chicken or beef broth was a lifesaver during that stage for me. Good luck!

    Tomorrow is the big day!

Best wishes for a great day tomorrow. Keep in your mind that tomorrow and the first couple of days after will suck, but that everything will start to turn around after that. Sending you good thoughts!
  14. I think that re-establishing your relationship with food is the hardest part of the entire journey. Congratulations on your hard work so far and best wishes as you move forward!
  15. That is a BIG deal! Congratulations on such an important milestone.
  16. I am happy to say there were NO problems with the new foods today. It is nice to have some new choice. One week until scrambled eggs!

    Lettuce?

On my plan, it is Week 7 post-op. It will be a happy day when lettuce and salads can make their way back into my life. (Not as happy as when eggs and meat make their triumphant return -- but happy none-the-less!)
  18. My recovery has been significantly easier than I thought it would be as well. Like you, surgery day (September 28) and Days 1-2 post-op were pure hell, but beginning on Day 3 post-op everything rebounded quickly. I have exceeded my Protein and Water goals every day since Day 3 post-op, and my nutritionist even moved me up half-a-week on my food stages. Getting the fluids in protein in, while not hard, is a full-time job for me, though. I am on medical leave until mid-November, so I can commit 100% to my recovery and getting all my fluids and protein in. I applaud these folks who go back to work so quickly. I would never be able to monitor what I have to take in, get it all in, and work all at the same time. (Case in point -- I had to deal with a house insurance thing the other day that consumed my mind for a little while. An hour went by and I hadn't taken in any water. If I were working, that would happen pretty much all day.)
  19. After 21 total days of liquids, I was given permission to move onto well-cooked green beans, string cheese, and cottage cheese 4 days early. Looking forward to seeing how this goes!

Yum, one serving = 2 green beans. As to cottage, I've been eating a little each day the past few weeks because my calcium capsules are enormous; when I empty them into cottage, the grittiness isn't as noticeable as it is in some other things. Otherwise, for decades I've thought of cottage as something to eat only when I'm sick.

      Pescador

Some people like a little SF jam with their cottage cheese. My favorite first good taste was 2 tsp. refried beans with a little mild taco sauce.

I put SF Strawberry Jam in my cottage cheese. It kind of tasted like Strawberry Cheesecake. YUMMY

    Feeling satisfied

I'll echo what @@Babbs has said. I have been very lucky that I have been able to get fluids in pretty easily since Day 3 post-op. Today, I am Day 18 post-op. It takes me about 60-75 minutes to comfortably drink a Premier Protein shake (11 oz). I drink fluids all day (like a full-time job), but I've been getting in 64 oz since Day 3 post-op and about 80 oz for the past week or so. Yesterday, I was able to drink a 16.9 oz bottle of Water in about 20 minutes. I would classify my "sips" as more "small gulps" of water now. Each person is unique though. It just seems that I am healing pretty well. But I get to the first stages of soft foods this week (well-cooked green Beans, string cheese, cottage cheese), so we'll have to see how that affects everything. Good luck!

Cheated 5 days after my sleeve

But I just had the surgery monday 10-, 10-16. What surgery did you do and when? Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App Please don't eat those things. The whole point of point of putting your body through this surgery was to re-establish your relationship with food and live a healthier life. Pizza, fried chicken, and french fries aren't going to do that for you. And, at this early stage, you could cause some REAL damage to your body. Is a few second of junk-food-satisfaction really worth that?
  22. blizair09

    Major depression after surgery.

I'd also recommend finding a professional that you can talk to. How have people treated you differently after the surgery?

Cheated 5 days after my sleeve

You can't do anything about it now, so I would suggest asking yourself why you did that to begin with and move forward. You are going to have to work on re-establishing your relationship with food if this intervention is ever going to be successful long-term. Good luck.
  24. They were a life-saver for me the night after surgery and the first few days after that. Best.things.ever! I highly recommend them.
  25. Getting the liquids in is an all-day process. I'm lucky that I have been able to get in 64 oz since Day 3 post-op, but I do sip/drink non-stop from when I get up in the morning until I go to bed. I am now (Day 17 post-op) able to drink Water at a fairly regular pace. In fact, I just finished a 16.9 oz bottle in about 20 minutes. (I was pretty impressed with that!)
