    Scared to eat

In my case, I just had to experiment with my sips and I pushed myself to take more in at a time over a period of days. In terms of protein, early on, it took me about 2 hours to drink a protein shake, and over time that pared down significantly. For me, I could tell when I didn't need to take anymore in, and I always just heeded my body's advice. Now that I am on more dense foods (eggs being the most dense), my strategy has been to eat smaller amounts more often, so I haven't ever come close to taking up all of my stomach space yet. Logistically speaking, liquids of any type just go through your sleeve pretty quickly. You'll get that "I can't take any more in" feeling, but it passes pretty quick. (That's why those "slider foods" become so dangerous later on...)
  2. I hate that you had a huge bruise -- but this is the quote of the week!! :-)
  3. I have been actively trying to up my calories every day. Yesterday, I got over 700 calories and over 80 grams of Protein (and half of the protein was from "real" food). I was in the middle of the "three week stall," and I have finally shown a 1 pound plus loss each of the last two days. I think that the extra calories helped me here. Being able to add scrambled eggs this week really helped. And I can add fish on Sunday. That will hopefully make a difference, too!

Now sleeved, in hospital recovering update

You will feel better soon. The day of surgery and the first two days post-op were pure hell for me. But, by the third day, I started to rebound and feel much better. Getting our and around in the world (within reason) was key to my recovery in those early days.

    Good luck!!

    Question

It depends on your insurance. My policy has an in-network out of pocket maximum of $2000 per year. By the time the surgery came around (September 28), I had already spent $600 over the previous almost 10 months in co-pays and a couple of other items that my PCP asked me to do (abdominal ultrasound, chest x-ray, etc.). So, I had to pay about $1400 for everything. (The hospital submitted their claim to insurance first, so that money went to them. Insurance covered everything else at 100%.) My doctor didn't have any "doctor fees." My parents had bariatric surgery over the past few years in Alabama, and their surgeon charged a $300 administrative fee per patient. I personally think that is kind of dirty, but apparently a lot of them do it.

    Help

I would suggest going low-carb and journaling everything you are eating and drinking. What kind of exercise are you doing?
  8. Did you have a stall at about the third week post-op? This might be that for you. Everyone goes through it. There will be stalls on-and-off throughout the journey. This is when the body is "catching up" with all of the weight loss and changes.
  9. I only had the Heparin shots at the hospital (3 or 4 of them if I remember correctly). They always gave them to me in the belly, and I had a similar bruise that just went away within the last week (and I am Day 27 post-op today).

    Possible weight gain?

I haven't been tracking them. Now that this is happening i need to get on the ball. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App I bet you'll notice some changes once you start tracking everything again. I started tracking everything during my six-month pre-op diet, and have continued that through my post-op food stages. I am planning to continue that long-term. (It works with my personality as well as helping to keep my consumption on track...)

    Possible weight gain?

Also remember that size is relative to the brand and type of clothing...
  14. I'd just ask your team about it. And if it is okay at some point, I'd try to find one of the organic peanut butters that minimizes the sugar. For me, the fat is okay since healthy fat helps to drive a low-carb diet, but the sugar is what would be the problem.

Listerine is one of my best friends!!

    Time off

I should have taken my full 6 week short term disability. I'd still be home! I really really regret not taking it, mine was also with 100% pay. I'm in school for my MBA as well. I bit off WAYYYYY too much. To anyone reading - I was dumb - don't try to over achieve at this stage. You'll just end up exhausted. Wow. That is a lot. I can't imagine having done this when I was in the middle of my PhD program. Trying to do all of the reading and also remembering to drink constantly all at the same time would have been damn near impossible!

    f**king freezing

My partner and I have always kept the thermostat on a 67 or 68 tundra setting, but these days, I freeze to death. He's lost 85 pounds himself, but he hasn't had a big internal temperature change. I just sit under an extra blanket all the time. It will be interesting to see what winter is like. (But we rarely get below 40 degrees in the winter in New Orleans.)

    Low energy days

I am TOTALLY like this. I walk a minimum of two miles every day, and some days more than that. I'm so tired, that I haven't been able to take a shower yet because I don't think I could stand in there long enough. It is really puzzling sometimes because some days are just fine and others are exhausting. There is no rhyme or reason to it.

    Time off

I am taking off a total of six weeks. My surgery was September 28 and I go back to work November 14. We have a short-term disability benefit that pays at 100%. I am feeling better now, but as soon as I go back to work, everything will become about work and not about my recovery and getting my Protein and fluids in. That is the biggest reason that my doctor and I made the decision for me to take this time. Also my fatigue is so hit or miss, and that would make going back to work right now pretty difficult.

When can I have cream soup

My plan allowed for strained creamed soups at Day 14 post-op.

Is it too early for eggs?

I got to add scrambled eggs at Day 25 post-op (and the actual plan doesn't let you do that until Day 28; my nutritionist just pushed everything up half-a-week because of my progress). I haven't had any trouble with the eggs, but they are very different from foods in my earlier stage (string cheese, well-cooked green Beans, and cottage cheese) and a heck of a lot different than liquids. Even with my progress, there is no way I could have handled eggs at five days post-op.

    What soups?

Hey! You're in NOLA! I'm in Baton Rouge! Where'd you have your surgery? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Hi fellow Louisianan! Dr. Tom Lavin from Surgical Specialists of Louisiana is my surgeon. My insurance had me have the surgery done in Slidell, but he operates more often at a hospital in Metairie. Did you have yours done with a BR doc or a NOLA doc?

    What soups?

My nutritionist suggested the broth from wonton soup of any Chinese place as well as the broth from French Onion soup. (She specifically mentioned La Madeleine as we have them here in New Orleans.) I don't like either of those Soups in their "regular" form, so they weren't options for me, but they might be for you. For me, I have had strained Cream of chicken Soup (Campbell's 98% Fat Free) since Day 14. Now that I have all of these other options, I am about to retire it because it eats up too many of my daily carbs, but it was a life-saving option for me at Day 14!!
